Do Chest Rings Promote Bad Openings
ernokaikkonen replied to garywainwright's topic in Gear and Rigging
Yes, that's the one. http://www.parachutes-de-france.com/us/parachutes/catalogue/cont_axis.htm -
>And get very irritable in large crowds, especially when >I’m trying to get somewhere and everyone else is dawdling Ha! Same here! And the worst part is when, in a store for example, some slowly moving person suddenly decides to stop in the middle of the aisle blocking my way! Grrr! Wait a minute, this should go to the "Pet peeve"-thread... Oh yeah, phobias... hmmm.... I don't like heights, but will climb a ladder if I have to. I don't like swimming(it's dangerous you know, you could drown) unless I'm drunk and there's a lake next to the sauna... I guess I don't really have a phobia. >This is not a phobia, but I have a strong aversion to yellow. Gee, how can you use the smilies then?

I jumped one S/L jump a little over a year ago just gor fun. Man that Navigator 220 swoops like a monster when you hook it hard!

Same here, very much Finnish... On my mother's side they've got information about our family all the way to the 16th century! The church books have my great-great-great-great(you get the point)-grandfather's birth date somewhere around 1560 if I recall correctly... Nice to see some of the forum regulars have some Finnish blood in them... I noticed Jessica and Fallingwoman at least.

Well damn. I tried but I guess I was just too dumb to use the archive...

>No the major factor is the design of the wing, I have to disagree with that one, did you read my post?
-
Isn't that what I said?
-
>Is wing loading the KEY factor in a canopies flight and or fligh >characteristics, speed(forward) rate of descent.ect ?? IMO, yes. A student could jump a fully elliptical canopy @ Does the make or design of a canopy have anything to do >with the Wing loading (excluding cross braced)ie elliptical >and semi-elliptical ?? I'm not sure I understand the question. Wingloading is calculated from the jumpers weight and the surface area of the canopy. Ie 200lbs:200sqft=1.0 lbs/sqft wingloading(1.0:1). The shape of the canopy has no effect on the wingloading. Elliptical canopies tend to have design charasteristics that allow them to be flown at higher wingloadings.

Which AAD is in your DZ Rigs - Version 2

Nope, Lauri got it right. That's the Wolmari-pack I know.

Do Chest Rings Promote Bad Openings
ernokaikkonen replied to garywainwright's topic in Gear and Rigging
I wouldn't think so, Parachutes de France offers chest rings as an option to their "Axis" model harness. Erno -
The guy who developed the packing style says that it actually noticeably decreases the possibility of a line-over. Unfortunately his site which explains the method in detail has been offline for a while now.

With questions like this, useful information to provide includes(but is not limited to): - Your operating system (Linux/OS2/MacOS/Windows95/98/Me/2000/XP/something else) - Your browser (IE/Netscape/Opera/something else) - Your browser version(select "About" from the "Help" menu on most browsers to find out)

...And when you get tired of doing that, you might want to install a better browser. >I finally made a repack cycle, now what? I dunno, go for two in a row?

Works fine here too.

Inverted Canopy Hookup - what did i do wrong
ernokaikkonen replied to pds's topic in Gear and Rigging
>What would really be valuable to me is to know WHAT >exactly i did wrong. was it either of the two possibilities >I mentioned in the original post? The easiest way of hooking up a canopy backwards is indeed connecting the left riser on the right-side D-ring and vice-versa. Like I said, learning the line continuity check will save you from this happening again, and from a bunch of other things that can go wrong while hooking up a canopy. I'll say it again: Do not pack a canopy (that you just hooked up) before checking it's connected correctly! Erno -
Inverted Canopy Hookup - what did i do wrong
ernokaikkonen replied to pds's topic in Gear and Rigging
Sounds like an incident to me... Although not a very serious one. PDS: Get a rigger to show you how to do a line-continuity check. It's really quite easy once you know how to do it. Always do this check after your canopy has been detached from your harness-container. I'm just wondering if I'm feeding a troll here... -
>GnR Lies was sort of "eh". Yeah, but I got the double "Lies" / "Live like a suicide". The other half rocked! And the "Lies"-bit was good stuff to practise playing the guitar...

I did a cross-country once where we got out over the DZ and just flew as far downwind as we could. From 3000m we got about 10km away I think. We of course studied the winds beforehand and checked the map for an approximate landing area. We also had a pickup car ready, and all of us had cellphones with us. The six of us landed in four different places though if I recall correctly... I landed on a medium-sized clearing in the woods, and had to hike through a km of thick woods and shrubbery, with an open canopy...

>I'd also like to know when the hook knife is used, so >far all i have heard is that it's for the reserve That's the one situation everyone should carry one for. Serious CRW(intentional or unintentional) would be another reason...

Mission Impossible: Newbie Question on AADs
ernokaikkonen replied to Michele's topic in Gear and Rigging
>How is it able to account for the pressure difference in these >two positions in knowing when to fire? The short answer: It can't. If you fall back-to-earth for a long time, a Cypres will fire ~300ft higher than normally. The long answer can be found here. And more reading about Cypres than most people will ever read: on the same site -
