  4. Same here, very much Finnish... On my mother's side they've got information about our family all the way to the 16th century! The church books have my great-great-great-great(you get the point)-grandfather's birth date somewhere around 1560 if I recall correctly... Nice to see some of the forum regulars have some Finnish blood in them... I noticed Jessica and Fallingwoman at least.

I'm not sure I understand the question. Wingloading is calculated from the jumpers weight and the surface area of the canopy. Ie 200lbs:200sqft=1.0 lbs/sqft wingloading(1.0:1). The shape of the canopy has no effect on the wingloading. Elliptical canopies tend to have design charasteristics that allow them to be flown at higher wingloadings.

  11. The guy who developed the packing style says that it actually noticeably decreases the possibility of a line-over. Unfortunately his site which explains the method in detail has been offline for a while now.

The easiest way of hooking up a canopy backwards is indeed connecting the left riser on the right-side D-ring and vice-versa. Like I said, learning the line continuity check will save you from this happening again, and from a bunch of other things that can go wrong while hooking up a canopy. I'll say it again: Do not pack a canopy (that you just hooked up) before checking it's connected correctly! Erno
  16. Sounds like an incident to me... Although not a very serious one. PDS: Get a rigger to show you how to do a line-continuity check. It's really quite easy once you know how to do it. Always do this check after your canopy has been detached from your harness-container. I'm just wondering if I'm feeding a troll here...

  18. I did a cross-country once where we got out over the DZ and just flew as far downwind as we could. From 3000m we got about 10km away I think. We of course studied the winds beforehand and checked the map for an approximate landing area. We also had a pickup car ready, and all of us had cellphones with us. The six of us landed in four different places though if I recall correctly... I landed on a medium-sized clearing in the woods, and had to hike through a km of thick woods and shrubbery, with an open canopy...
