The DOT standard is a screening test, followed up by a "righteous" test if the screening is failed. So, you fail the field screen, they give you the day off with pay while they take the second sample to a real-deal lab while you seek out the advice of an employment attorney. I also thought the random testing thing was an invasion of my privacy without probable cause, and made the watch commander tromp out to me to give me a "direct order" to comply. A lot of people who think that they have gotten off dirty actually didn't have their urine tested. Many organizations randomly take samples, and then only randomly test those samples. It's pretty expensive, and many managers think the threat is as effective as actually testing the stuff.

Excellent choice, but don't jeapordize your ability to be in the driver's seat when the time comes. Say it with me: "Great idea, sir! Have you lost weight?" You have done way harder things for greater lengths of time. Nothing good comes from meetings that start off with "listen, fucker!" Let's say I provided the bountiful environment of the SkyDive Arizona facility to their cameras, and one young tough stud dislocated his shoulder, and one mashed his neck up. Like I said, there are advantages to gristle so long as you aren't trying to eat it.

How many guy skydivers have you kissed? One of the gold medal CRW dogs out of Lodi was about to get out of the plane and motioned me closer. I figured he had something important to relate to me so I leaned over. He grabbed my camera helmet and laid a big whiskery smack right on my lips and bailed out of the Otter. Odd and funny. I didn't get any movement, so I was OK.

I've now got 5 reserve rides on PD143R's. Thanks to Gravity Girl, one of those, the first, was flown as a main and not as a result of emergency procedures. DO THAT! My first reserve ride was after the biggest formation load I had ever been on (a 41 way) and my Spectre spun up violently. I remember looking at it and thinking "You're not supposed to do shit like that!!!!" I chopped and had a reserve at just under 1000 feet. BUT I HAD FLOWN AND LANDED THE RESERVE BEFORE! That was a HUGE confidence builder. Really, I can't emphasize enough the benefits of flying a reserve on purpose and not after entangling with someones else's chopped main. I can not think of any reason I would ever change from the PDR line. I've stood up every landing I've made with one. (I should probably use one as a main all the time) As to them landing "bigger", yeah, the 143 with the main gone lands a lot like my Spectre 170. Remember you lose the weight of the main, so your loaded weight goes down a little from your full kit.

My neck is dead sexy. Also, in the past two years I have managed to break both of the young (20's!) camera fliers that flew with me! Honest people, once the arthritis sets in, your neck hardly moves on a brisk opening!

Don't get fired Clay. The REMF's tend to appear sheepish while they are sharpening their knives. Remember to think Strategic, not Tactical. "Yes, sir, and three bags full, sir" and all that crap. It's just for a short while longer. Keep the faith.

A wise man told me, correctly, that we all only have to look good for 1/500 of a second out of a whole minute of skydiving. Oh, and the naked people are all British, which is normal for them when experiencing sunshine in December. They also do naked bus riding and rock climbing.

I have some great shots of Sangiro that are close, but you can't see them. What have you done with Sunshine, anyway? I'm calling the cops!

I've got copies of Jim's stuff, but I don't think he has a shutterfly site. He's on the road again, but we touch bases. Next time I talk with him, I'll ask.

Wingy, if they are in the first hundred, I may need to photoshop them a little before you order. I got some crud on my sensor I didn't discover until the third day. You can see it as dark spots on the tops of photos, if they are against a lighter background. Shutterfly is satisfaction guaranteed, so if you're not, send them back, let me know, and I'll get the pictures like you want them.
