Reason not to tell tandem student details about what happens after opening
Deuce replied to efs4ever's topic in Instructors
Matthias got one of us going head down that is even better (scarier) but I can't find it. She had us barrel-rolling and I couldn't stop it, so I just timed it so I could get the drogue out before we went back over again. That picture is right before we got snapped back belly to earth. -
Reason not to tell tandem student details about what happens after opening
Deuce replied to efs4ever's topic in Instructors
I give them 5 minutes on the ground and then go over everything again at about 7 grand. I include the "knees up, feet out, my feet first and slide until I tell you to stand up". I go over the last bit again at a thousand feet. It's been working pretty good for me. But some people are not instructable. This lady was an active duty USA Master Sergeant. Brave lady, big lady, but there was no teaching her anything. My wiggiest tandem to date. Photo by Matthias Lundblad -
They picked me up, Lew. Go Vortex!

Memorial - Egon, Bruno, Piers and Krystal
Deuce replied to schafdog's topic in Blue Skies - In Memory Of
Chuck, I did a ride on my birthday and wore the shirt Egon gave me on the same day I got my Skymonkey hat. Antioch to Fort Bragg. When we were in Petaluma (small town north of SF where they filmed a lot of the movie "American Graffitti") some folks in the bar asked me about my T shirt, as they were showing skydiving movies. He was cool. He leaves a big empty space, but he filled me and everybody else up with fun when he was around. Cheers. Fly free Igon. -
It's not free for them online. The development and the bandwidth for that software costs them money. It's a marketing tool that failed with you. I'm sure that the marketing idea is that you will be greatful for the program and the help it provided you, and that gratitude would turn into a sale. They provide software and bandwidth for you to make your decision, and when you use it and then don't buy from them, I can understand how they would be frustrated.

No, 4way starts on Monday, Sept 5. Correct. Deuce, you almost missed the first 6 exits! ltdiver We would have evaded the Canadian Bacon for a whole freaking day. But no. Gotta get all exact.

My first jump was AFF, off the Cessna 206 in April of 2001. I happen to have my logbook right here, it says: -Good climbout and count -Dearched on exit -COA -3PRCP's -Pulled @5500 -Off airport landing good (more arch from hips) -Cleared to AFF LII I wanted nothing to do with tandem, and did my first one to get my instructor rating, and then did one recently with a friend who was getting her rating, and hadn't jumped with anybody heavy. Having no handles makes me nervous.

I only got Burked once, and wholly deserved it. That was the question he asked me, and when I answered him he paused, thought about it a moment, and replied "So that's what we'll put on your tombstone, then?" At Herc Boogie they had a really great system. They had safety officers at both landing areas, and people who did questionable things had thier wristband numbers taken down, and then when they manifested, their names appeared on the manifest as having been warned. -Yeah, here's a copy of the screens that were all over. Not only did it clearly warn the offender, it warned everybody else about the presence of an offender on their load. If I remember correctly, you were able to get one warning a day. If you made a second offense, they just cut your wristband off and you were done.

But I registered!

Yeah, well, "Fe-MALL-eh", so long as you know your place. Is that Chilean booze-merchant keeping you on overtime? WTF? Over.

Best ever? In Skreamer's back yard just outside of London. We had met just the previous year at the Holiday Boogie at Eloy, and he gave me his couch and a douvet for a week. Really spending some time with him and his South African roomies (flatmates?) was neat. I'll never forget it. In SA they make a neato toast appetizer on the grill. They also like this kind of jerkey that is softer than the jerkey over in the US. Hey, Will, you hosted the best "barbie" I've been to yet.

Bitch, don't get uppity. I'll do a hair-pull, knee-kick takedown on you followed by a carotid restraint, handcuff your entire self and drop you at the mercy of your man.

um.. you do have to pay my friend but it's the old fashioned way, send the check / cash, or give them a call and give them your CC number.. Iwan Dude, all these people are logging on from work. When you have your credit card out at your workstation, your supervisor can usually figure out you are not on company time.

Huh. I've had 5 new rigs so far, and had all of them assembled at the factory. I've met the folks who assembled them, and it just didn't occur to me to not trust them with it, like I trusted them to manufacture it. You make a good point, JP, is it the one you intended? Why would anybody buy a rig from a manufacturer that they wouldn't trust to assemble the rig? This looks like another one of those things that comes from high jump numbers and low years in the sport (me). I wasn't aware that (is it most?) manufacturers do a poor job of assembly. Redundant gear-checking is always good, but I wasn't aware that some folks think it was considered a poor practice to jump gear assembled at the factory. How about you? Would you jump gear assembled at the factory?

http://www.byron-boogie.com/ Pre-registration may make a significant difference in the size and number of additional aircraft brought in. You don't have to pay when you register, so register if you are coming! If I can do it, you certainly can!

When did you first start filming tandems for money?
Deuce replied to Newbie's topic in Photography and Video
About 250, camera on at 200, did a bunch of free jumps videoing tandems, eventually got good enough to sell them to people who hadn't bought video ahead of time, and was on regular rotation, having gotten good enough, at about 250. -
I bought my first Wings just to keep from having to listen to Gareth blather on about me jumping a "Death Trap" other kind of rig. On my first one, with the 170 in it, I had the problem of the reserve flaps coming open. When I was due for a repack on the reserve, I sent it back to be fixed, and they did the reserve repack for free! As I've progressed in the sport, I've met and jumped with Henri, the owner, and met Ankie. Like most of my other expensive transactions, I like Wings best because of the people and the service. Just a suggestion to everybody considering buying a new container: sent your parachutes to the manufacturer and have them assemble it. With the main and reserve in, any problems will be obvious, and can be fixed there, instead of having to be fixed by a rigger locally, or sent back.

I'll ditto that! Happy Birthday Caz! Hoping I can repay you someday for your kindness!!!!!

Yes, you freaking do. Worth the trip on it's ownself, let alone the food. And on a motorcycle, it's a nearly religious experience. Best roads in Cali...

You post here? I thought only wierdos posted on DropZone.com? Losers and ninnies? You seemed so secure and immune to this nonsense, Aaron. Where's my rock now?
