  1. Dimage, or the Sony 5 megapixel whateveritscalled. Both less than a grand.
  2. You're keeping track of that stuff? I'm tanned, fit, rested, and ready. Bring it on. You guys are gonna be hating life when you see who all's gonna be on the DZ.POPS way in Eloy this Christmas! Bwah!
  3. Well, Jake's got it now, and I figure he knew that stuff when he got it. ChopChop uses one, and likes it fine, but it is a drag not being able to firewire video to each other after a jump. Just about everybody has a Sony mini-DV, and that comes in real handy when you find you need a tape or a battery when you're in a jam. So far I've only lent stuff, but that's just a down payment for when I'm desperate to borrow a battery or need a tape. And firewire is easier than dubbing a tape, even if you're not flying the camera yet. Even if you have to pay $5 for a firewire of your jump Mini is much more dominant out there than micro.
  4. Most of those micros are 30mm.
  5. Just a quick thought. Make sure you got the right thread size. My 120 is a 37mm and I know there is another size. But I'm sure Max asked what camera it is you're using.
  6. Well, I appreciate tough love as much as anybody. I am, however, well past the time in my life when telling me how stupid I am motivates me to be smarter. Men in smokey-bear hats are a dim part of my past. Geronimo, I would have liked to discuss this with you in PM's, as in my training and experience as a people manager and leader, I praise in public and criticise in private. You betcha, I made some mistakes. I acknowledge that in my original post. I shared my view of my mistakes as well. I think I demonstrated my ability to take criticism by so publicly inviting it. So, here's what I'm hearing. My training was inadequate because I didn't have a hanging harness to train in. Good advice for people who are looking for an AFF training facility: Make sure they do hanging harness training. (Too late for me) The lack of familiarity with the process in a harness could very well have killed me. -Serious shit. A 35 way is not big. OK. It was big for me, and is the start of my attempt to get on the sequential support team next year. I have no business being on a sequential record attempt because I have gaping holes in my knowledge of big way RW. Well, I'm going to these events to gain that expertise. You gave me good advice in that not only will the base start kicking us off at 5 grand, but I need to make sure I know the deployment altitude. Frankly they may have been assuming I knew it to be 2500, but I routinely pull at 3. Next time I'll ask. Good advice. It does concern me, though, that if I was 500 feet lower, I would have been under my reserve at 800 feet. That number would probably be higher if I hadn't had to roll off my back, but I think it would be the same had I cleared out of the spin, got stable and pulled. I was well aware I had no intention of letting my Cypres deploy my reserve. In discussions with members of the 125 way sequential record, they were under canopy by 2000 feet or higher. That suggests to me, a toss at about 2500 feet. I took offense, because your statement thanking me for giving you an education by nearly killing myself (your stated opinion) comes off as very sarcastic. This may be caused by english being your second language, or just our cultures being very different. If someone stepped off the curb and was critically injured by a bus, I think it would rude to thank that person for educating me about crossing the street against the light. Perhaps in your culture that is a frank acknowledgment of facts. It's rude where I'm sitting. I would yank the person out of traffic, not let them educate me. I hope you keep reading and posting, clearly you have a wealth of expertise we can all gain from. Wherever you actually are, you may be surrounded by sycophants. Here, you will gain the respect you are due by sharing your knowledge, not belittling other's ignorance. Cheers. JP
  7. Max is the only guy who sells them. You can call or fax him. The contact number is on the homepage of this link. http://www.royal-lens.com/contact.html
  8. Wow. You read the manual and wanted more. "Thank you sir, may I have another!?" 550EX E-bay. It works so well with the camera, it really is worth the premium.
  9. Well, for the sake of postwhorage, I must say that I've had quite a bit of contact with Mr. Maxwell Cohn, and his customer service is top notch. But after you talk with him, he's really much more of a "Max!" as in "Hey, Max! Great sh*t, dude!", than his business cards "Maxwell", although Maxwell has tremendous secret agent name potential.
  10. Yes. I basically think of the two as my inside and outside lenses. If you are "in" the skydive, the .3 is best. It's even really good for inside 4 way, cause you can usually see three grips. It's good for linked exits and FF at docking distance. The .5 is good for tandems and RW and being outside of FF formations. If you can only get one, maybe consider the .3 and zoom it to adjust for your anticipated distance. You can zoom the .3 to about a .6, but after that is goes blurry and there's nothing to be done about it. There's another low-profile single-element lens out there by Waycool, but I don't have any experience with it.
  11. RETURN MY TEXT MESSAGES! Oh, you were in analog-land. Sorry. And put a lock on your computer, your man-child is on a tear! Ya'll ready for your big-way camp? No more motorhome trips. They cause cutaways.
  12. I'm a big Stroboframe fan too. I just got new ones for my new helmet, and B&H was out of stock. Calumet Photo has them in stock, if you're buying. They are about the same profile as the bottom of your SLR, so they should fit anywhere your SLR does. They raise the camera about a quarter inch. The D-box costs less than your first Sony service call. You should get one.
  13. I've got a Tony camera suit with a "D" wing, I can fly it on my belly, knees, sit, and back. I almost figured out how to back fly it with LouDiamond in his Birdman suit, but we need more jumps for that fiasco. If you are going to fly tandems in a dedicated sit, you might get a dedicated sit wing suit that has basically two wings that inflate as pockets. We've got a 60-something year old camera flier at my DZ who has one, and only films in a sit from below.
  14. Diamond .3 Thank you and goodnight! http://www.royal-lens.com/team.html
  15. Ah. Neato solution! I see a production model in that if I had the skills. A 9-volt battery, a switch, and a thin conductive foil you could tape to the perimeter of the lens to heat it from the outside in. I think it would work dynamite on teeny single element lenses like my Diamonds. Between the wind velocity and the warmth it could probably really improve just drying off "industrial haze" moisture too. Or not. But really cool idea NacMac.
  16. Get ahold of Neal@skydance.net, the GM or Manifest and see if it will work, first. And whoever is next gets the 5000th view of this thread! Hooty-Hooo!
  17. How does that go, SM1? "SM women have: Teeth, boobs on both sides, left and right, and don't wear helmets" -DZ.Eloy'02
  18. Mail me your waivers which you can download, and copies of your packing data cards, pay by credit card over the phone, clear it with Ryan@ActionAir.com, I'll bring them your stuff, and arrive in the style you are due. You are, after all, jettisonable cargo, you know.
  19. Next time they ask for a freebie point at that IMAX camera on top of your helmet and ask the if they think you got it out of a cracker jack box LD, the new IMAX setup is hung off a modified Belle-vue (Oh, man I am SO Just Kidding) Josh, yes, this is one of the most effectively hijacked threads I've seen recently. And yes, my favorite camera flying is just going out getting good pictures that people can buy off shutterfly. Or not.
  20. Yes. I'm staying here in my "happy" thread. The party light is lit. I'm going up Wednesday night to get registered and gear checked and all. Load one, Thursday. Can't wait. See you there.
  21. Yeah, that kind of happens. In the next couple days, we make get more useless dropouts
  22. WHAT!!! You were the mutha fucka telling me that I need to be getting my just compensation for my camera work and editing a few weeks back. you fall on your head or have aliens wiped your mind? Tell those MOFOs the web addy and drive on Hey, WingBoy, "Do as I say" and all that
  23. I know many more ways other than parachuting to kill myself. I am well aware of the additional risks I take flying camera, and took by not getting stable before deploying my reserve. That's why I chose to share them, so that my experience might help others. That's plain rude. Hiding behind not being able to accept PM's is why I am addressing this here. -and you know nothing about me. Nothing.
