  1. Yes, actually, I do. There are no more or less catastrophic natural disasters than there were 4000 years ago. It's also arguable that we have not become better people! Were you around 4000 years ago? I do not argue that there were no catasrophic natural disasters then... I do however, argue that since we've been able to tell, there have been trends of better and worse times. I do argue that we've not seen so much crap all at once in quite a dogs age. Again, I'm not saying things don't happen. Quite the opposite! True: there has always been bad things happening to us via mother nature... Also true: there has always been an evil element to us. Eh? I've heard people interpret it as "I won't use water to destroy again" but never "I won't destroy ALL of you" ... because, according to the Bible, he does sort of intend to when the end of the world is here. But he'll save the good few, like he did Noah. Well, I don't see "water" in that line at all. But it does say "... never again destroy every living creature..." The story of Noah's arc, like that of Soddom and Gamora, is to be found in the Old Testament. Taking place before the new covenant brought forth by "Jesus" in the New Testament. Where we were given more responsibility for our actions. Again, don't like to get hung up on certain terms, but if you are going to use them, you must use them right. (as a side note, the DINOS lived and died long before the New Testament as well) The intent is not to 'destroy all of us'... read revelations and get back to me. As per the book: There will be a whole butt-load of hardships to endure, many will die. After this the dead will rise and 'trumpets will sound'. A certain number of people will "inherit the kingdom of heaven" while the rest will live eternally here, on earth.... but a perfect earth though... again, read revelations, shit, read the rest of the new testament... Hey, give the old one a read! Many people think they know what it says without ever having read it. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  2. Marie who's trying to insult you? If your mother died in the flood, would you have more sorrow then if she didn't? Does it mean you consider her life more valuable then anothers? Her life means more to you than the life of a stranger, but from what I gather of you, that does not extend to say you beleive her life to be more important. You may be all read-up and savy on the flood situation today... if you had a family member there, do you not think you might be a little more connected for updates? As someone already posted. Anything that puts a face on the disaster is good. There are a lot of things happening which are worthy of the news. Fats Domino is someone that a lot of people would like to hear about. You may not give a rats ass about him but many may shed a tear at his passing (if he has passed) as though he was family. Are you suggesting we should write no more then "hundreds are dying" and repeat this on papper after papper, providing no more detail than this? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  3. Where I won't speak for it being punishment for "Mardi Gras". I have already posted that I believe the Natural Disaster to be a direct cause of fast, immoral living. I don't like to get hung up on words like "God" because many stop reading when they see it... or think the thread needs to be moved to SC. However, a "Loving God" does not assure that bad things won't happen. And "I will never again destroy every living creature as I have done."... well shit, read it carefully, it only means "I won't destroy ALL OF YOU." The "God" of the Old Testament was a vengeful one. "An eye for an eye" was the concept and Old Testament stories detail that if you did something bad, something bad would happen to you. An example using natural disasters? Soddom and Gamora being destroyed by brim stone and fire as they propagated sodomy and rape. The New Testament is when "Jesus" comes into the picture and that all changed. No more was it going to be so obvious. If we were to be considered "Children of God", then Jesus came around when all the children hit puberty. After the New testament, there was no more "Ten Commandments" to follow or "eye for an eye" mentality to deal with those that broke them. We as "Gods children" were growing up and it was time for us to take on more responsibility. A simple "Do unto others as you would have done unto you." and a promise that if we all do so, things will only get better for us is what we got. It was a raise in our allowance... and the start of having to perhaps kick-in a little help with the household chores. Well, on the whole, we don't treat others as we wish to be treated. An average, there are more people stepping on others for their own gain... so the opposite applies. Is it coincidental, you figure, that at the beginning stages of what we will call WWIII, we are experiencing the worst climatical events seen by us since we were all still "Children of God" ? Did it surprise anyone to see looters and theives in the streets while others are still hoping to have their lives saved? Or that at in an era where the importance of attending a football game takes precedence over finding shelter for those without, a storm takes place which displays these moral inadequacies to us as plain as day? Things don't just happen. Everything happens for a reason. The message in the storm, is not in the damage, or the death, or the injured. The message in the storm is in the actions of the survivors and of those not directly affected... how we all react to it. Who is to blame for the storm? Come on people... we all are! 4. Pompeii is actually a pretty good comparison today thougH. As we do understand that without a doubt, it will errupt again some day. We do understand that without a doubt, we can not predict it accurately enough to call an evacuation unless the "chance of erruption" is within a certain percentage, measured on a daily basis. We do understand that without a doubt, the cities cannot be evacuated in time to prevent thousands of deaths when it happens. The government offers $40,000.00 to anyone who is willing to just pick up and leave the area. Many residents chose to stay because it's so beatiful and hey, that's home! Everyone there understands the risks fully. Everyone there knows that there is an evacuation plan... but none of them know exactly what it means to them (i.e. which roads they are supposed to take and where.) So living next to the Levy, which you may know to be of poor quality, does indeed compare to living at the base of a volcano when you KNOW it will errupt some day and you KNOW you won't be able to escape death when it does (if in your lifetime) My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  5. Here's where the crazy-side-of-the-street-ramblin'-prophet in me comes out. Who's to blame? The impure at heart. Simply put: Natural disasters on the uprise, a direct result of fast, impure and immoral living. Does that label each victim an evil-dooer? Does it imply that the areas affected most have a higher percentage of evil in their mists? Of course, I don't believe it does per say. We as a people have been asking for as long as we knew how to ask: "Why do bad things happen to good people?" The answer? Because we are all one, and we must all pay together for the evils commited by our own. "These storms are to be the first of the great levellers." -Legion My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  6. Also worth noting is that he'd get an article if he died of a heart-attack... or a car crash... or a mugging gone bad.... Either way, he's famous, if something happens, it'll be written about because there is a number of people who follow his life. Writing about him disapearing in the floods is in no way downplaying the rest of the victims... it's just writing about him disapearing in the floods. In any case, I certainly hope he's alright.... even though he is a famous member of the Rock N' Roll hall of fame and sold many records touching the hearts of thousands and thousands. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  7. Famous people are a cross-section of "real people". Understanding that a famous persons name is well-known around the world, writing about their suffering (admitedly no more that the rest) often makes it more real to people, say on the other side of the rock for example, who might just not get it. I agree with you... It's not an excuse, just an explanation. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

  10. I'm not quite sure how to feel about this. You know, it's such a heart-warming gem of an event when someone opens their doors and arms, going out of their way on many fronts, to help people in need. It's a gut-wrenching shit of an event though, when these people in need come to expect nothing less. My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

  13. Hell-No she shouldn't feel bad!!! With her man gone, I charge you with the responsibility of convincing her of this... being the lawyer, you should have no difficulty Seriously, this friend of yours does a noble noble job. Sure I understand the discomfort of uncontrollably associating disasters with $$$ for the fam but hey, it's what he does and his hard work is paid for. Firefighters get good pay too! That doesn't mean they sit around hoping for fires. I understand that they get paid either way whereas your friend may not, but if you're going to work for money, and we all do, he should be commended for his choice of labor. ... give him props for me, and {{vibes}} to his wife, who must miss him. 15. You did as much as anyone could... and much more than many would. I'm sure the pup was releaved to have passed in the comfort of your car and company instead of spending it's last moments on the hard pavement, not sure if he/she would be hit again. You have a warm heart mama. And you done good.
  16. Heeeey! Happy Birthday girl! We should get you one of these for your party! ...you could 'train' me in it My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!

  18. (emphasis mine) So many people suggesting that we elbow the container in a Pilot Chute in Tow situation. I certainly don't disagree. But I've taken the three steps above, and made them two. I have worked elbowing the container in at the same time as I'm looking over the shoulder. This cuts out the 1-2 seconds you've allotted for the brain to register. Just something to think about. Does anyone know of any disadvantage to this? What I mean to say is that I: -throw (2-3 seconds til WFT?) -elbow the container whilst glancing back. (sorta works with the motion of looking over the shoulder anyway) -if nothing, pull silver (or cutaway and pull silver if that's what you do) As I posted earlier, I once pitched a lazy throw and the pilot chute was sorta dancing around on my back. I looked over my shoulder and watched it catch air and take off for a normal deployment. Now that wasn't a pilot chute in tow, but after the fact, I realized I had elbowed the side of my container as I was glancing back. Didn't hurt my situation that I know of, but if it was a pilot chute in tow, I'd of already banged the container once. Thusly eliminating the seconds it would take to see my pilot chute and decide to bang the container... does this make sense? Can anyone see any disadvantage to this? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  19. Maybe... but it's all in the situation . If it wasn't a 230ft canopy but a small HP elliptical, the twists had him or her on their back and were getting worse, then all I would say is "Good Job!" because it wouldn't matter how high he/she was open by. [note: A student, standing near by, may not understand that and question why the jumper didn't just kick out of them.] Precisely my point... While yours was: "Fair enough, I'll still be turning right." Once again, remember that what we call a "Collision Avoidance Turn" is always to the right and is performed when you realise there is an imminent head-on collision and there is no time to think. I think you understand that, and I think you are slowly getting to that. Actually, fact of the matter is: given the situation presented by the poster, you'd probably have turned left before realizing you did. I just had a bad taste in my mouth when I heard a pilot say he almost hit another plane, they both turned left in order to live, and you told him he did not do the right thing. It's all in the situation as you said. And there were but two people involved in the situation we are discussing. They both made a decision... They both made the right one. 20. Ill have you know I spent over 7 months watching a elephant be trained to masterbate and then taking said samples to the airport... Did any of that require clubbing to the elephant-nutz? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  21. I liken it more to a person chopping line twists and someone else telling them that they were wrong because proper proceedure for line twists is just to kick out of them. BTW, the "collision avoidance turn" is meant as a reaction for when you are going to collide head on and there is no time to think... not for when there is time to think or when the collision is offset from head-on enough to make a right-hand turn a very stupid move. Are you a flight instructor Bill? One word of advice, if you are going to crash into a plane, and your gut tells you to turn left to avoid it because most of him is already to your right. Don't turn right into him/her, killing you both. After the fact, there won't be any way for you to tell him/her you were right and they were left, er, wrong. Actually, that goes for canopies too! Let's just say: don't crash into someone just because you remembered: "turn right!" My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  22. Hehee , I guess... Anyway, from what I gather, they tend to go for the males and they tend to go for the ones who are old enough not to be procreating... unless they are in an area where the numbers are abundant enough not to worry about that sort of thing. Yes! That is what I said. My goodness Lisa... the man hit the elephant in the nuts, the elephant cried out in pain, the rest of the elephants got away quickly, this one didn't move. That's how it happens. You don't know how sensitive nuts are do you? My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  23. No no, in this case it was really to hinder it before moving in. They were attacking on relatively open ground and there were several elephants. The thinking was that if you attack with a horde of people, all the elephants stampeed and whatnot, there is a good chance of losing your prey, and of losing many men. Instead, they sneak one guy in, who lands a crotch-shot. The elephant wails in pain and this makes all the other elephants take off in fear and confusion but for a moments time, this one is unable to move.... enter the horde of spear-men. Of course, the bravado factor involved in being that guy is HUGE! Being the one that sneaks in is, in itself, a display of manhood for up and coming young hunters. Anyway, how did Neanderthal man kill wooly-mammoth?.. Not with guns I'd bet My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  24. I never said tribes people weren't killed as a result. Actually, many did/do. Hunting elephant is serious business. Sometimes, a kill can take hours but they have to keep at it, even upon seeing buddies fall. Apparently, letting one get away all injured and such is pretty bad juju. They will have a pretty foul taste in their mouths about humans and can even come back to get real nasty with the tribes that hurt them. "An elephant never forgets!" My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
  25. I don't think they hunt elephant with spears at the JAX zoo Lisa. (okay okay, I'm being a smartass I admit it. Just teasin' you... I'm actually looking for some sort of link for ya.) My Karma ran over my Dogma!!!
