  1. Dont you think a lot of PD pilots would be flying 27 cell canopys instead of 21 if PD had one... You dont see much Xaos 21 pilots at the top either... Most of them fly Xaos 27.
  2. In Finland we learn to pack from Jump No. 1 . We pack our own from the start. Ofcource during the first jumps theres someone to show you how its done. Also after you have learnt how to pack, a licenced jumper will have to inspect your packing. No one ever takes money for teaching how to pack.
  3. Yes.. X-way belly does a lot of noice.. Also tube dives tend to do a LOT of noice.. My slowest average speed is 140 km/h or 85 mph

    How do you track ?

Does this really effect on your track ??
  6. Why would you be looking for a 320-350 sqft. canopy ??
  7. A lot of people at my DZ attach their shirts front side to its backside with a simple strap with a plastic "clipse" between their legs. You can see similar clipses being used in backpacks that have a cheststrap. Works well..
  8. Anyone know what kind of airspeeds are possible in Perris ?
  9. Anyone know what kind of equipment is used on Crosswind or other Patrick Passe films ?
  10. Älä helevetissä !! (it´s Finnish and means : ** *** ** **** ****) Thats just too cool...
  11. Finland: 6 months, unless manufacturer suggests less..
  12. Wow ! Cant say nothing more, but: This is the first time i get really scared this would happen to me sometimes.. I thought I had one slammer on a sabre, but after reading this I guess I have to change my signature... Hope your knee gets better...
  13. As far as I know its not "8% smaller than it is branded." It is 8% smaller compared to how PD measures their canopies. So, you could also say PD canopies are 8% bigger than safire is. I have understood that there is no standard in measuring canopies. Different manufaturers measure differently. For example brand if we have "X" brand "Y" and brand "Z" and they all say 99 sqft. They could all be different size if measured in one standard. I have even understod that sizes from the same manufacturer may vary also, when comparing different products. Brand "X" 99 sqft. semi-elliptical could also produce different figures even when compared to brand "X" 99 sqft. crossbraced with the same standard. Im no rigger or anything, so someone who knows better, please correct me if im wrong.. you can also find some figures about PIA standard measurements from here here Note.. I dont know how reliable these figures are though...
  14. Well, Yes and no... This happend on ground while student status: I got a pin check, and jumpmaster found my reserve pin less than 1mm fron coming through the loop. He said: "Hold still ! Dont move ! Go laying on the ground on your belly ! " I did what he told and I was thinking What the *uck ??!!! Later on he told me what was wrong, and Im glad he found it. BUT : This was on Vector 2 rental gear. I would not see this happening so easily on my own gear to me since I take good care of my own gear. Reserve pins dont do this by them self. Some one had abused the rental gear. Also I would consider my G4 reserve coverage a bit more safe than Vector 2. The only reason I didnt find it my self was becouse during student status I was told not to mess up too much with the "upstairs" of my rig. I dont do pin checks in the plane unless I have or someone else has abused my gear somehow. I do pay very good attention to my bodypositions and if anyone has touched my rig in the plane..
  15. If you are gonna sit the last 2k´ , be sure to have a comfortable and soft chair waiting for you...
  16. Whats wrong in her attitude ? The fact that she dont want anyone messing up her container without her permission ? I think that is nothing else but wise !
  17. Hey, me too. I would go mad if someone is starting to check my gear if I havent asked for it. Even asking another person : "can I check your gear is something I wouldnt do" If someone asks me to check, sure I will do it.
  18. In Finland we pack our own gear from jump no.1 I think its very good to know how to pack. Its also a safety matter IMO. Its very good to understand how your gear works. Just knowing "when I pull the PC it opens" isnt enough in my opinion. I get really good laughs when someone posts DZ.com : "I have 50 jumps , Should I soon learn how to pack ?" Come on..please !!
  19. Does the fact that the canopy is crossbraced make it somehow more dangerous ?? (they would both be loaded the same)
  20. No, no and no. For me it was; politics, attitudes, egos, lack of aircraft maintenance, and a generally poor safety attitude. I looked at the effort I was putting into it and the return I was getting out of it and all the hassels and decided to hang it up. So far no regrets. Derek So you dont skydive anymore ? Yes. I agree it is depressing to see someone leave the sport. For some reason it seems to be most depressing when someone is quitting becouse they just dont enjoy it anymore.. Somehow it seems to me that skydiving differs a lot from other sports in this aspect also : its strange to see so much people hanging out at Dropzones daily, even if they dont jump anymore or have even never jumped..(not including active skydivers family members)
  21. Any info ? I wanna hear about this too !
  22. Damn !! Im glad no one was hurt ! BTW. Did you translate this with some online dictionary system ? The term : "air anchor" is just too cool... The straight translation for Pilot Chute from finnish would be "help boletus"
