Not really. You should read what the succeeding states said in their own words. Here, for example, is South Carolina: http://avalon.law.yale.edu/19th_century/csa_scarsec.asp It really was all about slavery. Slavery was the rally point. But the real reason was States rights vs Federal powers. It took the FORM of the slavery issue. But the issue was that the States felt that the Federal Government did not have the right to over step what the States saw as their rights. It was State vs Federal power. Edit: From your link. Yes, the frequent violations they were concerned about were the failure of the Northern States to return fugitive slaves. Article IV Section 2 Clause 3. It is all in there. http://www.dropzone.com/dropzone/North_America/United_States/North_Carolina/index.html Call down the list. I don't think any of them will let you. You could try tunnel time instead. That's close to you. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

It has been so long since they did this that I am not sure anybody remembers how any more. The congress has not passed a budget via the normal appropriations process since 1997. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

I have voted for libertarian candidates in the past both for national office and for down-ballot elections. The day a libertarian accepts public campaign financing is the day I will no longer vote for them. So your guy never wins. Gotcha. I've voted for all sorts of people including major party candidates, libertarian candidates, other third party candidates and independents. Some of them have won. Some of them haven't. I have always voted for somebody I believed in. If I couldn't find somebody to believe in for a certain race I left it blank. I have never wasted a vote in my life. Ejuts are a laughing stock of the world

Duverger's law predicts we will pretty much always have a two party system. Those parties might shift over time and (rarely) a third party emerge as one of the big two (and one of the incumbents collapse) but our electoral system is set up for two parties. I say this as somebody who would desperately like a viable third party and has voted for lots of third party candidates. I do think it is possible that the modern Republican party could entirely collapse. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

Question regarding airplane emergency
Southern_Man replied to NoShitThereIWas's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
My bad on the Cessna details. In the case of a single engine the feathering isn't really even a factor I guess. I was on the load right before that and think I remember the pilot saying that was his 5th emergency landing! In the case of this TO situation the right engine caught fire then seized and the auto feather failed resulting in a hard yaw to the right just between V1 and V2. The aircraft flew over a heavily wooded area and never got above 120' before impact. It was a hot summer day so the door would have stayed open until 1000' and the load was extremely light with 2 tandems each with video and one solo AFF graduate. It was my home drop zone and I often think to myself "What would I have done if I was doing a hop-n-pop on that load?" A 206 with 7 jumpers in it? Certainly not a light load. Keeping the door on takeoff is not a safe SOP. This whole story doesn't make a lot of sense. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
The speed limit would be quite a bit faster than the normal speed on the beltway. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

It has been years since Congress passed a budget. There was an Omnibus bill in 2009. The last time we had a real budget passed in the normal way was 1997. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Couples with diff political views, can they work?
Southern_Man replied to JohnnyMarko's topic in Speakers Corner
Honestly I am somewhat apolitical (despite my somewhat frequent postings in SC). I have definite views but I am not very engaged in the political process. I can get along w/ people who are conservative or liberal as I can find something in common with either viewpoint and I can agree with parts of either. Those who are extremely partisan (on either side) and think people with differing views are idiots, well that is a turnoff. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

AFF student leaves plane without instructor
Southern_Man replied to -ftp-'s topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As a current AFF student recently moved on to single instructor jumps (and having the time of my life!), my instructors told me that no, I should NOT pull just because the instructor gets away from me. As long as I am stable, I should continue on with the dive and pull at the correct altitude. It depends on level. This is listed in the video as a level 5 AFF jump. Since I did the categories (a-H) I am not quite sure where that is in the progression. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

It is a problem. There's a local organization (Project ID) which is dedicated to that specific thing. A lot of homeless and poor people don't have ID (really). They work with them to get acceptable secondary papers (like voter registration cards, school papers, bills, whatever each state requires), and send them in to the various states, and then follow up. The line is hours long every day. Not everyone gets in. Yeah, I know -- "stupid should be painful." But it is anyway. Other people deliberately piling it on and making it more painful is not good. Wendy P. Yes, it is quite difficult to start the process of acquiring ID for somebody who doesn't have any. I have helped quite a few people through that process. Sometimes there are work arounds but even those are not easy. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Essentially, he's said it's more important to be nice to people than to put blind dogma above all else on issues such as contraception, gays etc. But obviously, considering the hardline position of the previous regime, it is a relative statement. OK, that is absolutely underwhelming to me. Of course I don't care at all for their dogma and pay no attention to what the pope says. I don't think that will change.
