Lots of immigration talk. Here is a question
Southern_Man replied to dgskydive's topic in Speakers Corner
This is often repeated but I believe it is dead wrong. It is not that Americans won't take the job, they will if you pay them enough. The businesses can hire illegals a lot cheaper than they can hire American workers. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
'Out of many, one' isn't what we're talking about now. More like Out of Many, Many More. E Pluribus Unum means you come here and assimilate into our country and prosper. I don't see these folks doing either of those things. I believe you are both wrong. I believe E Pluribus Unum was talking about making a nation out of the colonies/states. No reference to individuals or ethnicities at all. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Don't jump, they sky will be there after your dental work is done. It's only a week break. You are a tough bird by calling that a minor injury, that sounds like it would hurt like hell. I still can't read all the way through one of your posts, man they are long. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

What stupid things have you done as a grown up?

Too long a list to put them all here, my marriage would have to rank #1, though. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
How many jumps/pack jobs on that canopy? I jump a hornet 210 and I always flake it. I'm new at all of this but I've noticed that for some of the experienced jumpers w/ lots of jumps on their canopies, the material practically falls into place. I guess memory. Supreme Court rules against college Christian group's ban on gays
Southern_Man replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
Nope, straight from the actual non-discrimination policy in question: shall not discriminate unlawfully on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, ancestry, disability, age, sex or sexual orientation. Discriminating by skills still appears to be allowed. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

I overlooked that part. Pretty sure they wouldnt' be receiving school funding anyway. Would be a very odd fraternity/sorority system if they were. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

well...since you insist, looks like you guys are now gonna have to learn Greek! ...but remember, it doesn't have to be that hard. Just have faith in God and He'll guide you... I already know Greek, at least Koine Greek. It doesn't really help settle this argument. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

There are no "white frats" at least not officially. I would bet there are no national college fraternal organizations without some black members. At the local level there may be individual chapters without black members. Not saying that is right, but it is cultural, not a blanket prohibition like this group. I do agree all groups should have to follow the rules. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
It would not be a case of having 1099 contractors. He was not telling the IRS he had 1099 contractors and paying them everything and leaving them responsible for their own taxes (properly or improperly). He was classifying them as employees. There is no actual collecting to be done. The only collecting he would be doing would be from himself. He is not giving that money to employees then taking it back (although in the accounting he is). He is simply giving the employees their net pay. Then he is not sending the IRS what he owes them. That is a failure to "collect and remit"--i.e. it is a complete phrase. I'm taking off 1/2 a day to watch the Portugal-Spain match at a restaurant w/ my daughter. She is really into world cup. Nothing like being there but I'm excited too. Hope it is a great game. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Just be honest with her. Tell her it is not working, tell her why it is not working. Don't be cruel or excessively critical but give her enough information to allow her to have some self-reflection and perhaps learn from the experience (if she is capable fo that). Tell her you wish her the best. Either move out or stay away and minimize contact for a while. Be polite but don't engage in dramatics. If she is rational and wants to talk, etc. then you can but don't do a ton of this early on, too painful and can become a tar baby. You cannot control how she will react but if you are truthful that is all you can do. She definitely sounds like she has some major drama queen potential. Good luck. As long as you are still married you are eligible to claim the married filing jointly status, but you are going to have to agree to file together (usually this makes financial sense for both parties). You can also file as "married filing separately." In Virginia there is no legal status called "legally separated." The parties have to live "separately and apart" for one year (six months in limited cases) prior to receiving a divorce. There is a lot of case law defining what separately and apart means. Many parties will sign a "separation agreement" that protects both parties interests, divides property, prevents running up debt , etc. and these can be enforced in the courts just as any other private contract can be. There is no requirement for parties to do so and neither party can compel the other one to agree to a separation agreement. Even with a separation agreement a spouse could still be sued for divorce w/ cause on grounds of infidelity. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Student activity fees often pay for activities that individual students find objectionable. A student can no more refuse to fund groups they disagree with than we can withhold the portion of our taxes that go to fund war or welfare or gun control or other actions that individual taxpayers find objectionable. If this was a private school I would say the school had an almost absolute right to not fund the group. In this case the school is a public school, though, so this is government action. A private school, such as your university, has less responsibility. Without reading the entire opinion (which I am unlikely to do) I would question if this overturns http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosenberger_v._University_of_Virginia which said public universities may not engage in viewpoint discrimination. Yeah, then pull the reserve. Just FYI, the key when going to the reserve girlfriend is to leave enough time for full inflation. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

I don't understand the correlation between popularity and whether a team "deserves" a spot in the tournament. Not many in the USA follow swimming or track and field very closely and yet we are world powers in those sports because we earn it on the field of play. Southern_Man replied to skyrider's topic in Speakers Corner
I think we see here that true libertarianism is a much more radical departure from our current system than some posters above want to make it (say libertarians are republicans in sheeps clothing). Yes, marriage is a default contract involving all sorts of rights and statuses to all sorts of things (mostly property). A true libertarian says that if people want to grant each other those rights then they need to contract with each other, not have the state impose them as part of a package (of course libertarians could just abstain from marriage altogether, too). A true libertarian answer is not to extend that right to new categories and classes of people. Private contract rights and the dignity of the individual to provide for himself without all sorts of nanny state nonesense are paramount to a libertarian way of thinking. Rights pertaining to children are theoretically exactly the same whether the parents are married to each other or not. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

Southern_Man replied to skyrider's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't think that is a libertarian response. As somebody who leans libertarian myself I would like to see governement completely out of the business of regulating personal relationships--no state sanctioned marriage for anybody, we don't need it. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

Yes, once dismissed the referee will not be back again at this world cup. South Africa up 2-0 on France in the first 20 min. France down to 10 men from a red card. They really did surrender. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
