Michel Fournier to try again
Southern_Man replied to IanHarrop's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm sure she was part of the balloon crew and had nothing to do w/ the skydiving equipment or that part of it. I called her yesterday to ask how things were going but didn't get her. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Arizona’s struggle against illegal immigration
Southern_Man replied to aphid's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't carry any of these. Sometimes (like when I go out running) I don't carry any ID at all. Makes you wonder.... "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
This depends entirely on the model. Different software and hardware components make for different recording parameters and different senstivity to the various parameters. Garmin makes GPS units for all sorts of application and not all the applications have the same requirements. For example, their running units need to be smaller and light but elevation is not a very important point to record. Some of the running models do record elevation (older ones did not even take it as a factor) but that part of the unit is not very robust. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

First, I don't trust those numbers. However, I chimed in purely on the public benefits part of it, since that is where I have some actual knowledge. We should not ignore the law, we are not ignoring the law. There are stringent requirements in place requiring applicants to prove citizen for many kinds of public benefits (social security, public housing, Medicaid). Do some people make it through regardless? Yes. However there are costs associated with compliance as well. I'm all for enforcing the law. However at some point the costs for compliance are greater than the amout that is lost in fruad. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Man, you really need to get sorted before you date anybody. You are not fit at this point to be a companion for anybody. Some depression is going to accompany divorce. It does take time to get over. Sometimes it takes more than time, though. You might need to see a counselor, take medication, or take other measures. Exercise, sleep, new hobbies, and eating right are also very important. It is not a sign of weakness to seek help if you need it. I had to do all of those things during my divorce. Now, almost 2 years later, life is much better but it took time and help to get there. Says this is unavailable either because it has been removed or because of privacy settings. I've tried to watch quite a number of these videos but they seem to get taken down faster than they go up. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Was that me? I don't think it was you. I don't remember for sure who it was. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Eh, I'm even newer than you. I love jumping with more experienced jumpers. I am always honest about my experience level and my skill level with them. I also try to stick w/ dive plans that are manageable. As long as I do that, I can live w/ myself if I do something wrong (and believe me, I have). I haven't had any of the up-jumpers complain. If they, knowing my experience level, don't want to jump w/ me, that is okay too. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

There are public costs associated with illegal immigration, however the screed that was posted above that TK was reacting to comes from somebody with no actual experience in the area of public benefits. Some benefits (such as schools) are available to all. Benefits such as Medicaid, Food Stamps, and public housing all require verification of citizenship. Are there illegals that slip through the cracks through forged documents or whatever? sure there are but audits of different programs all show that this is a very small percentage. Thank you to the people who responded and outlined their concerns so clearly. I now have more information to make up my mind. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

I was hooked from my first jump. Still new at it. One of the up-jumpers told me I'd be better off starting to do heroin. Cheaper and easier to quit. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
An Important Notice to USPA Members
Southern_Man replied to 3331's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm new to all this and a bit lost in some of the discussion. I could use some clarification. In general I think I am in favor of online voting. Other membership organizations I am in use it. I see a number of more experienced people are against it. I understand one concern is cost. There seem to be other concerns rooted in history that are only being expressed in veiled language. Things about ignoring procedure, not trusting the board, etc. I'd sure like for somebody to spell out those concerns so that I could make an informed decision with all the facts. Skydiving career in 6 months?
Southern_Man replied to trig78's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I believe USPA just instituted a one-year as coach requirement before you can go for an AFF rating. I don't remember all the details but that would seem to be pretty significant for your plan. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -

The diplomatic discussion on using the system to your advantage.
Southern_Man replied to rhys's topic in Speakers Corner
It is different because you are using the buffet policy as they intended--to eat all you want. This is perfectly within the spirit of why they offer it. (Trust me, no matter how much you eat, they aren't losing money on you, either, unless maybe you are an Appalachain Trail thru-hiker so something and probably not even then). He is using a policy intended to let people purchase things without worry by allowing them to return them if unsatisfied and cynically buying things w/ the intention of returning them--thus renting them for free. He is buying without the intention of actually buying. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Me too, I land much better w/out a parachute in my dreams then I do in real life with a parachute. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

so get her name off of the mortgage, that's the better solution. The insurance is just a temporary band-aid. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"

Doesn't sound like you need life insurance for me. who cares if your condo loan and student loans get paid off if you bounce? Unless your separation agreement requires you to have insurance sufficient for those items (the mortgage, the student loans I presume are in your name anyway) then that is her problem, especially since she is the one that cancelled the insurance. Usually the "forsaking all others" bit covers that. Of course some people have open marriages. Hard for me to call that immoral although I couldn't do it. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?" -
Women who spend too much time planning a wedding
Southern_Man replied to shah269's topic in The Bonfire
$2500 doesn't come close to an extravagent wedding. Have fun and enjoy yourself. Only a problem if your spouse is not on-board with it. Then that is something you two need to work out between yourselves. "What if there were no hypothetical questions?"
