Jump #39 *** dude, dont get a big head or anything, but..... MOST EXCELLENT decision making I have heard of in a while.....great job, ->and PLFed(one full summersault). I got up had no injuries what so ever. so what did the judges score you at?... seriously, its nice to read about someone using good judgement these days...... you had a controllable canopy....(with adjustments)......you controlled it to a successful landing, (quite stylishly it sounds) Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

do I have to keep buying beer until my D license?*** yes.... didnt we tell you that? if you miss any of your scheduled beer distribution dates, your license may just be suspended and you we would have to relegate you to doing tandems. congrats; Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... problem is, they're Not my signatures *** I have seen several riggers that are now using ink stamps to sign the cards - takes a little more work to forge than just picking up a pen... Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

Have we sanatised our sport to the extent where it should no longer be considered as "extreme"? thats pretty much what everyone that hasnt tried it... Now that I am involved I see that it is all about safety I find that it is "so safe" that on occasion on a jump I have found it to be booring. yes and no - the gear we use is more reliable and in general better condition than some of the old surplus gutter gear from years past, but now we have relatively new issues that are killing and injuring too many I read a lot about jumpers on high wing loadings getting hurt or worse and I think, are they not the true skydivers who still take "the risk" *** Its all about risk management, what is extreme to another may be normal to others. We try to minimize the risks, to do othewise would be stupid. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

Deployment velocity versus opening speed

I have come down off of hopnpops surprised to find my shoes still on my feet...... and had equally hard openings from terminal... on a canopy that is predominantly known for slow soft openings.... there are a lot of variables that determine opening shock....... good luck trying to quantify all of them.... some of them include, packing-line trim-and body position. Roy PS: any canopy.... irregardless of design can inflict a severe opening shock. They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it. -

When I was putting my rig together I was a giddy fool every time a new piece came in the mail. Great stuff---and giggling about how often I can use my reserve

I know Tempos are crap -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Based on what? DZ.com BS? Tempos are fine reseves as long as you do not overload them pass The MAX SUSP WEIGHT like many do and then they bitch about it. Go figure. I flew a Tempo 150 and I was impressed by the performence. Several at my DZ have flown Tempos and they all liked the way they flew and landed. None were overloaded. Some cannot say the same about Micro Ravens... I have two Tempos 150 @ 1.15. I cannot say a single bad thing about them. I agree that Tempos don't have the reinforcements that PDRs have. Keep in mind that the max exit weight of the Tempo 150 is much lower than the one for a PDR 143 (254 LBS). As long as you stay within PISA's limits you're fine. I would not jump a Tempo or any other reserve over the max susp weight. *** you and I are in total agreement, were you replying to the wrong post? Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.

Ravens work just fine as a main or a reserve as long as the wingloading is kept to 1-1 or less, when you get higher they like to stall really abruptly when flairing, I have one ride on my micro raven, one on a swift plus, and four on various tempo's I know Tempos are crap*** you really shouldnt believe everything you hear, they work just fine. they do have them, all radio shacks have the same inventory, I built one for a friend about 9 months ago, call it a photocell and they may know what the hell your talking about (they aint rocket scientists ya know) use the biggest of the choices, they range from 1/4" to 1/2 inch, , and come in a multi pack assortment. run yours off a 9volt battery... making sure that the diode you use for your record indicator is 9volt compatible or it will burn really bright....(for about 2 seconds)......... make a complete circuit and...... whala..... very cheap remote record light.. Is there something that I can do to slow it down?*** boy, I hear this a lot from hornet owners.... for some reason its the ones who own the larger canopys... (nothing wrong with that) but yes you can do something about it.....everyone will start telling you about packing tips, the exotic packing (rolling the nose, stuffing the nose...) etc... but you can eliminate the problem by having your rigger make you an oversized slider-and the problem will go away, I jump an icarus fx-85 that was very painfull to deploy, my rigger made me a slider that was 2" wider and 1 5/8 inch larger front to back with dual drawstrings, .... you cannot tell it wasnt the stock slider by looking at it (excellent work) these dimensions worked for my canopy, call the factory and tell them the problem - they will probably recommend a larger slider and will be able to either provide it, or give you the dimensions needed to fabricate one. my openings are almost scary soft.....no opening shock what so ever...my stiletto never opened this soft. hope this helps. Roy They say I suffer from insanity.... But I actually enjoy it.
