  1. OK, There's a lot about what is considered bad out there, How about what you consider the best. I have a Dolphin and a Vector. The Dolphin, though a rather inexpensive rig is probably the most comfortable I have ever jumped. The Vector on the other hand I find a bit stiff and I'm always messing with riser flaps. 3. The Para-Twin if anybody remembers it. You could mount the reserve on the chest or piggy back style where you would attach it by a huge zipper. Of course a rigger would have to make the change because it required removing the ripcord. This thing was so heavy it felt like you had a jumper on your back. 4. Thanks for the info, I stand corrected, The Cessna 206 installation does not offer a Gross weight increase like the other models where it does. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

  6. The STOL kit is fine to get it off the ground faster and shorten your ground run, but if runway length or obstacles aren't a problem, save your money. X-Wing is fine but only for the increased useful load if you need it, but it takes a lot of loads to recover from the outlay and a shitload if you decide on a different engine which is really expensive. The most efficient prop is the 2 blade 88" seaplane prop but you may need to keep the nose strut inflated with a little more nitrous for ground clearance. This will give you the best climb performance. I think if you do the math, the only thing that will make sense is the prop. With 850 hrs you do have a ways to go but the I0-520 will probably need a cylinder or 2 before it gets to TBO. Don't EVER get sold on a top overhaul. I have never seen 6 cylinders go at once and most tops are needless. Mechanics like to recommend them when a jug or 2 gets low since they make a lot more when they do 6. Additionally, there is nothing wrong with 60 lbs either unless specific leakage is detected. And even with leakage there are a few techniques to get it back that Continental provides in the service manual. The manufacturers design team pretty much made these planes as efficient as possible. There are a shitload of mods out there but none really do all that much. Saving money is making money. Good Luck You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  7. Though both are started and run by skydivers, this doesn't mean they know how to run a business. Running a business is hard work and many don't follow simple rules like having both long and short term business plans. You see it all the time in other occupations as well. Like a mechanic who decides to open a car clinic. The guy may be a great mechanic but unless he's educated in business management its usually doomed to failure. Additionally, there are few people who can effectively operate and run a business year after year without eventually getting tired of it. This trend results in a formerly great business to go down the tubes. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  8. Skydiving is one of the unknown cures for depression. I read it somewhere a few years ago (not here). Something to do with the routine adrenalin flow that skydivers experience being a remedy for many ailments. Personally I never had any mental problems (though some would argue that point), but since I quit for a few years I can honestly say I feel 20 years younger now that I'm at it again. 9. An Inconvenient TruthBy Al Gore. Not to ban it of course but re-categorize it as a prime example of how some worthless idiot profited over an issue that means nothing and does nothing but blur the truth for money. 10. Here's a straight answer for ya; Call Bob Mathews at National Parachute Testing Center 352-489-4898 He's got a lot of stuff that will work with either the older capewells or 3 ring risers. Just tell him what you got and he will set you up. Enjoy the ride. I would love to do it too but would only jump a jumbo PC or something large. 11. I guess the best thing is to advise the rigger of his errors. If he agrees to follow manufacturers instructions in the future, fine. If he gets defensive, take those pictures and make a report to the FAA. If you won't or don't want to, PM me the info and I will. They must investigate and take appropriate action on any report. This is a serious safety issue and shouldn't be ignored. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  12. Years later ( about the late 1980s), someone found a Para Commander which had over the years been torn to shreds, which had washed up on the Lake Erie shoreline. Someone said it had belonged to Lyle Boyer. His canopy was red and white, and I had taken 16mm color film of his opening at the parkman DZ., two weeks to the day , before the Lake Erie jump on Aug 27th . I think Billy Weber was the one who found it and ironically he's a skydiver. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  13. QuoteI remember hearing somewhere that harriers are prone to a situation where when they are low and not moving horizontally for a period of time hot exhaust is somehow drawn back into the intakes and reduces power severely, and is what caused it, but I did hear it on the internet, and you know how that goes. Quote The Harrier is actually listed as an engineering disaster. It has a tremendous amount of flaws and was designed poorly according to the US Marines. Its not only dangerous to operate but very time consuming to maintain. That's why Davis Mothan AFB is full of them rotting away (see pix), some since the early 90's. The US Military is sorry they ever purchased them and its one of the few aircraft ever manufactured that was label by the Marine Pilots as "widow makers". 14. Well, it was Thursday July 8th 1982 about this time of day when we lost a great guy as well as a real pioneer in our sport. I remember him as a great friend and I was unfortunately the pilot on that load. His last words to me were "thanks Mikey" as he fell away from the plane for the last time. Here's to you Jimmy! Rest in peace old friend You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  15. Interesting that they are so backward they don't even have signal lights at what looks like a pretty big intersection. We had since 1914. Eventually they will need to be taken over and liberated. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  16. Those stats are pretty accurate. My Cousin who is a statistician with the FBI (actually in another section) stated that the numbers sound pretty close from what he remembers without going through the archives to check them out. But the bottom line here is that Illegals take a terrible toll on our US society and I personally am sick of paying for this vermin. The American people need to have this information drummed into their heads regularly, less they forget. I will do my part to keep 'em informed. 19. Chicago is a sanctuary city for illegals that has been broken for 40 years. The voting district’s are drawn, as to keep his criminal and dysfunctional politicians in office. The city is huge on entitlements. The city is bankrupt, mayor Daley ignores the huge dangerous gangs. Spends all the taxpayers money to make the loop a police state on weekends and at night. The high-rises are empty as business’s leaves the city. He does nothing about the gangs and continues to blame guns for his problems. IOW, he's a piece of shit! 20. On a more serious note...though I'm not a big fan of illegal immigration, do you have a reference for these numbers? Some of these numbers seem plausible...some do not. For example the claim that of drivers in NM who have no license/registration/insurance, 98% are illegal aliens, surely must be an exaggeration. Illegal immigration is certainly one thing that could account for someone not having license/registration/insurance. But there are a lot of American citizens who are down on their luck these days, and surely some of them have let license/registration/insurance lapse because of lack of funds. The 98% number just seems too high to me for that reason. Here is where I read it, they are apparently FBI stats; http://dprogram.net/2010/05/16/arizona-vs-mexico-crime-and-illegal-aliens/ You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  21. Happy Canada day. We don't have to worry about Canadian Immigrants, they are productive functional people. These are not; 95% of warrants for murder in Los Angeles are for illegal aliens. 83% of warrants for murder in Phoenix are for illegal aliens. 86% of warrants for murder in Albuquerque are for illegal aliens. 75% of those on the most wanted list in Los Angeles, Phoenix and Albuquerque are illegal aliens. 24.9% of all inmates in California detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally 40.1% of all inmates in Arizona detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally 48.2% of all inmates in New Mexico detention centers are Mexican nationals here illegally 29% (630,000) convicted illegal alien felons fill our state and federal prisons at a cost of $1.6 billion annually 53% plus of all investigated burglaries reported in California, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona and Texas are perpetrated by illegal aliens. 50% plus of all gang members in Los Angeles are illegal aliens from south of the border. 71% plus of all apprehended cars stolen in 2005 in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and California were stolen by Illegal aliens or “transport coyotes”. 47% of cited/stopped drivers in California have no license, no insurance and no registration for the vehicle. Of that 47%, 92% are illegal aliens. 63% of cited/stopped drivers in Arizona have no license, no insurance and no registration for the vehicle. Of that 63%, 97% are illegal aliens 66% of cited/stopped drivers in New Mexico have no license, no insurance and no registration for the vehicle. Of that 66% 98% are illegal aliens. BIRTH STATISTICS 380,000 plus “anchor babies” were born in the U.S. in 2005 to illegal alien parents, making 380,000 babies automatically U.S.citizens. 97.2% of all costs incurred from those births were paid by the American taxpayers. 66% plus of all births in California are to illegal alien Mexicans on Medi-Cal whose births were paid for by taxpayers You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  22. USPS is a mistake. FedEx is probably the best method and its pretty reasonably priced. They are also non-union which makes them much more efficient than UPS or the government run Post Office. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  23. The female was 48 and probably too old to be involved in canopy formation jumping. Bottom line - two dead. Boy, I have read some pretty strange shit on DZ but this by far rates the pretty high up in the total bullshit category. The Red Bull Air Race Pilots, many in their mid 50's are among the best pilots in the business. 48 is pretty young.
