  1. Thanks for the list Sparky. I was really surprised to see the 337 Skymaster on it. I had one of those and had to take the upper door off to change a window a few years ago. What a bitch! You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  2. NO, But wearing one is a pretty good idea. I'm not gonna trust my life to a machine that history shows to have killed thousands. Especially one with an open door and loaded with a bunch of reserves just bursting at the seams. Better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it. 4. Perhaps you missed the thread about Rhys and his habit of returning slightly used gear to Wallyworld. Yes, I knew nothing about the previous thread You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  5. I understand people abuse the system, but on truly defective shit, there has to be an option to return or exchange it. Better to pay by credit card and if they don't take defective merchandise back, simply dispute the charge. I've done it and its pretty easy. 6. Having flown both, I too chose the Spectre. The opening does take longer but I'm a bit older and can't afford to get walloped. I didn't notice a more powerful flare with the Storm but only jumped it 5. Since I have to be careful of an ankle, I need something I can shut down in no wind conditions. The Spectre does that nicely and I highly recommend it. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  7. Wikipedia says its been around since 1980 and may be a spoof, but I like it anyway. Except that it misses some important tips, like having your husbands rig ready. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

  12. A rigger should be the one who determines what is airworthy or not regardless of what some manufacturer who revises their original manuals does, and many think is in the interest of making more money. We do this with older aircraft and the final determination of its airworthiness is left up to those licensed to do so. For this and other reasons I have little respect for Softie. I personally own one as my pilot rig which is 10 years old and the way I keep it, will be good for another 50. It also came with a 12 ft. bridal which is absolutely asinine and highly dangerous. 13. I heard that smokers who quit still have nicotine trapped in certain areas of the body including the ribs. When they dislodge you get a fix and then the withdrawal. This is something I read a few years ago and not having a medical background I would get it verified. When I quit, it took a good year to get cravings that lasted for quite some time. I gave into them and I still smoke today. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  14. My friend and myself were kicked off a DZ once. We just completed a 4 way and 2 of us decided to make a 2 way once the others tracked off. I gave him the nod to pull and once I saw his line stretch I pulled myself (no time to track away). Well, his canopy sniveled and the next thing I know he came into mine. My once inflated canopy was now a mess and I was pulling us both down with his main which still wasn't inflated. I cut away and then his canopy inflated and he landed it. Someone saw it and we were asked to leave for the day. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime

  16. Gee I thought CSPAN was all liberal? So much for your liberal media conspiracy. Liberals can only hide facts and truth for so long, then they must all admit to their ignorance. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  17. He should be blasted. If Sharpton really wanted to get the black crime wave down, he would be working day and night telling young men to stay in school and to marry the mothers of their children, so that boys do not grow up without fathers. He would be demonizing criminals, not the police. As long as blacks commit crime in numbers wildly disproportionate to their representation in the population, police data are going to show higher involvement with blacks than with whites. According to victims and witnesses, blacks committed 68.5 percent of all murders, rapes, robberies, and assaults in New York last year, though they are only 24 percent of the city’s population. Whites, who make up 34.5 percent of New Yorkers, committed 5.3 percent of those crimes. Blacks are nearly 13 times more likely to commit violent crimes than whites. 18. In all fairness, I understand that flat packing the canopies without packing tabs is a real bitch. I'm not sure who includes them or who offers them as an option, maybe someone here can enlighten me. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  19. I also noticed that pro pack advocates are hmm... sort of stubborn; pro or nothing... whilst flat packers don't seem to be that strongly biased. My 2 €-cents... Bias is perpetuated by conformity or ignorance, meaning that the stubbornness you refer to is simply that most pro packers probably don't know how to flat pack. 20. From what I have read and seen, I think think the best way to reduce the overall malfunction rate would be to flat pack all tandems. I doubt anyone will actually make the change since not only is there an issue with some packers who don't know how to flat pack, the other problem is that it can take 3 times the space. Additionally, to make any transition from a DZ's typical method of packing would likely cause staff problems and a slow-down of operations and $$$$. 21. QuoteIf you flat-pack, remember to alternate left and right. That way the end cells will wear out at the same rate. Good point, but do you think it makes a difference on the canopies of today in which many are designed with built-in snivel? You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  22. Anyone still doing that? I was just curious after reading some older threads. Seems that there were less malfunctions with the flat vs the pro. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  23. Early on I used to get migraines after jumping. I was told it was simply from an increase in blood pressure which is consistent with being excited. Some would last a few hours, but eventually they went away. I never let them deter me from jumping as the reward far outweighed any minor discomfort. I would guess you won't experience the same thing on future jumps since the first has a pretty good dose of anzioty, adrenellin and other raised body functions associated with it. Do it again! 25. I have no doubt you are in good health but you should really consider getting rid of the weight or you soon won't be. Skydiving is a pretty safe sport overall but with your size you probably lack the agility that it often demands. You could probably go with some of the other recommendations to get in a few jumps but I don't think it would be enjoyable with some of the physical limitations your size requires. I personally know a skydiver who wishes to remain anonymous about his past weight but he was over 500lbs at one time. He worked his way down to 240 for his 1st jump and is active today at 210. Good luck. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
