Would you jump with someone you suspected of being high?
Zenister replied to Katzeye's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm an odd girl, prone to spaced-out periods. I've had people ask me if I'm high, and I don't smoke pot. I would be highly irritated to be cut from a load, or worse, branded a drug user, when I haven't been using. exactly. and with all the people who have already mindlessly repeat some of the misguided, outdated & erroneous propaganda it seems like its rather likely that they might make this mistake simply because they dont know the personalities involved.. you'd better have alot more information than your "suspicion" before you make an accusation like that. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

yeah thats right pursuit of happiness isnt a freedom.. just because the courts say its so doesnt mean they are right. Of course the majority of the populace are now trained sheep to afraid to question the decisions of their masters.. i'm done with this thread i've heard the heavy click of minds snapping shut far to often.. i hope your grandchildren enjoy the police state that these attitudes help to create. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

yes, he does and he is a VERY good teacher as well as an amazing skydiver and all around great individual. glad your interested, be aware however you have ALOT to learn before you should seriously turn your thoughts to skysurfing.. one of the downsides of the xgames was that it grabbed the attention of thousands of kids who were immediately disappointed when they discovered that they couldnt go out and start skysurfing next week, there are quite a number of foundational skills you need to develop first. but that doesnt mean its not a good goal to strive towards.

negative, i've been through training just for this type of observational skill. in my line of work, if i notice someone UTI, and something happens, the buck stops with me, regardless of whether i had anything to do with whatever incident took place, i'm HNIC, i'm responseable, and i take it seriously. 28 years of experience helps as well. well if thats the criteria you use i'd have to say there is quite a bit that slips by you..or all those you catch are simply fools and should be culled anyway. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

yeah right, whatever you say its impossible to have a rational discussion on this issue. Far to much preconception and prejudice has already reared its ugly head, no doubt many reading this thread already characterize me as stoner and doper having never met me, soley based on my defense against the endless repetition of years of government propaganda as so eloquently illustrated here.. when in fact i would wager my blood and urine is more pure than most rabid anti drug nuts, who are simply ignorant of the amount of drugs in EVERYTHING they ingest, and seriously underestimate the perfectly normal people who are forced to lead secret lives because of those same ignorant attitudes.. how about someone with a bit more time and access to skydiving statistics look up the number of fatalities DIRECTLY attributable to drug use? or better yet lets give you the benefit of the doubt (that the hardline crowd refuses to do for anyone who disagrees with them) and just count those were drug use is suspected to be involved? and how many "innocent" bystanders were actually killed because of it??? i'm [sarcasm]sure[/sarcasm] the numbers will bear out your fanatical persecution and insistence that dangerous addicts are "continually falling from the sky endangering your children" a stupid poll on an grossly exaggerated issue that no one in opposition can really discuss openly for fear of the lynch mob... i will simply say i have met bonified addicts in other fields whos judgment and reaction times i would gladly trust my life too and place against most completely sober individuals, so i would likely not have an issue jumping with someone i knew was high so long as i was certain of their skills otherwise, but then i judge people on their own merits, not on what substances they chose to partake of... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

your right, but then there is also the perceived guilt & persecution and the uprooting of family and friends to contend with..its far easier to shrug and say "oh well i dont use so why do i care if they want my piss" than it is to take a stand on principles.. i too appreciate your views and never intend any post as an accusation or attack, but i feel this is an important social issue that far to many people simply dismiss as it does not (as yet) affect their daily lives ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

oh yeah i forget money is more important than freedom too:rollseyes: and its easier to knuckle under to the continual erosion than it is to say NO..no farther i know its not the dropzones fault that our legal system has been come so litigiously corrupt, but somehow i expected skydivers to care more about freedom in general. every little chip may seem insignificant, until the pillar falls.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -

and apparently that minor (as it is a very minor supplement to proper supervision) is more important than the founding freedoms our country was based on. how many skydiving deaths have been directly attributed to drug use? how many skydives were made during that same time period? do you honestly believe that possibly saving a few lives is worth the continuing erosion of personal responsibility, privacy and trust implied by drug testing policies? how many people have died to create the unique culture of freedom we used to enjoy? actions and policies (by individuals, the government, private businesses or dropzones) that take away from those founding principles devalue, and demean their sacrifice it has become a cliché of late, but safety is not worth freedom.. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed. -
