  4. :14:4 better jump weather than anyone expected in WA. 14 jumps 6 H&Ps, some 4 way exit & accuracy rounds from the cessna for beer and bragging rights...my first hit & chug.. (i lost bad...53ish sec the winner did it in under 11 sec) some great HD jumps and some fun had chasing two guys across the sky as they learn to sitfly. ordered my first new infinity and my first BASE rig. and i'd easily give all that back if i could just get one more really real hug from holly this weekend really sucked ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  5. i agree completely... i made 5 jumps friday and was stoked about the weekend..till saturday morning but after many phone calls and pms i couldnt sit around my apartment and feel sad..so i went to the dz just to sit and watch the canopies fly (or so i thought) right away the new friends i found noticed something was wrong..so i told them, and they understood completely..and as the sun came out from behind the clouds and blue skies looked down on us..i began to feel myself again, some of the joy holly beamed reflected from the sky and broke my mood..so we laughed and played in the air as she loved to do..and i felt the belonging she always gave.. i cant believe shes gone, but i know she would have wanted us to play and live and enjoy the moments as they happen as she always did.. i saw 2 tandems experience the joys of freefall for the first time..one may never try it again, but the other was jumping off the ground to get more air and will soon return.... i saw another girl stretch her wings and land the smallest canopy shes ever flown (a 210) this weekend..and enjoyed her smile as she danced around the hanger trying to figure out how to afford another... no place else is so much joy freely given, and in no other sport would i have been so lucky as to meet the people i have here... holly was one of the best, but her joy is everywhere with every sunrise we greet from 13,000 feet ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  9. some day later i may point out all the fuck ups marines have made that other services have bailed them out of.. today i just dont care. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  10. I've been screaming nooooo all day.... holly taught me one very important thing...show everyone you care about, how much you care. everyday. in every moment.. i still cant believe she gone, and i wont get to see here sunlight smile with these eyes again, nor feel the reality of her presence. so few give so much of themselves in such simple things as hugs. i wish i had told her how much she brightened my life. love and blue skies holly. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  12. A book club would be nice, but i can't afford to go out and buy books. I'd have to hope i could get it from the library. send me your address and i'll mail you books...i have to many and they dont do much good if no one else reads them.. of course first you've got to give me an idea of what you like to read..... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  13. lol not to disparage any service, but SOME marines are exactly as you describe them not to be and couldnt 'think' their way out of a paper sack without a gunney to tell them which direction to go...and this STILL makes them no better or worse than any other service member who gives their time & lives for their country.. take your head out of the jar sometime freefall is much better that way ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  14. nice...i would love to get paid to read, but only if i had some control over what i had to read..my time is too important to me to waste it on (what i perceive to be) bad books.. in mass market media i think i would end up reading more crap than i could handle i like the book club idea..my first recommendation is Life of Pi by Yann Martel a young boy and a large tiger on a small life boat in a very large ocean. possibly the best book i read last year. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  15. damn thats a pretty bass! ive wanted a rick for awhile...no, as i understand it since refretting is a normal part of any instruments life that should not lower the value at all.. sweet axe man... of course i would be sooooo tempted to toss some hot EMGs in it but.... ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  16. i like to discuss things to much sometimes.. the way i see it our military is primarily made up of soldiers, those who do very important, very necessary functions in the conduct of military operations. it also contains a number of warriors, those who train continually to become proficient at their chosen arms and have used their abilities in the course of their service. i was once a soldier, and still support all aspects of our military, both personally and professionally everyday as i do my job. (what I do still perhaps qualifies, but I will not call myself one as I don’t bear the same responsibilities anymore that they do) i am by no means a modern warrior. I lack the skills and training they practice daily. there are not many who would be happy to see me across the blade of their sword however
  17. no a 'mercenary' fought for the highest bidder and was often paid "per battle" sometimes fighting on opposing sides in the same conflict a 'soldier' was often pressed into service (each house hold was required to keep arms for this purpose the richer citizens made up the better troops) for an inital term and remained there for the pay the monthly salary IRC.. and i'm not refering to a "rambo" stereotype. I'm talking about men & women who take pride in their personal abilities and skill at arms and have made that their profession by serving the military. we are certainly quibling over minor hairs here, but the original definition is more correct. a Warrior is "one who is skilled in the art of warfare" and there are a great many of them serving in our current armed forces you dont think that applies in the 'newly rediscovered' enivroment where our military seeks out the members of the opposing force rather than carpetbomb the populace into submission? ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  18. most of my playin time (when i was doing so seriously) was split between speed metal and big band & small group fusion jazz.. but (other than the rusty chops) i can pretty much play anything, but my current song list is rather short since my mind tends to data dump any music i'm not actively playing.. as evidenced by my lame attempt to muddle thru "dead cats, dead rats"...err "break on thru" in korea ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
  19. Uh..a nice essay, but you MIGHT not want to go to far down that path the Romans created the 'soldier' as job, the word soldier comes for "solis" some one correct my latin please specifically named after the money they were paid to fight because they were a professional fighting force. i also think your mistaken in assuming our military has no 'warriors'. i know quite a few and as much as we like to say they do it for "flag & country" many of them do it for their own concepts of honor and glory, rather than the pithance we pay them to fight which in no way cheapens the sacrifices they make for our freedom. if you think the japanese army was made largely of "uncoordinated rabble" then you really need to check again...what the romans introduced was a "cookie cutter" approach to warfare, that has served well in the past, but that is losing its hold on the modern military in favor of the more flexible and more effective "asymetrical warfare" the problem of interservice rivalry was specifically addressed by the creation of CENTCOM & SOCOM that make the decisions about what "tools" are right for the job. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

  24. and to take that one step further, to claim that any single cultures expression of divinity is the "One true path" is just as narrow minded.. far better to read the entirety of human religious experience and look for the points of convergence than simply to rely on giving your faith to any single religions dogma or savior. but then that wouldnt allow any group to think themselves "just a little bit superior" ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.
