this is exactly what i think SHOULD be done.. at Eloy I got a very good over veiw of the 'basics' through out AFF, and then went and asked for more from some of the local canopy experts. a solid foundation allows someone to improve much more quickly than anyone trying to "figure it out alone". when someone wants to learn to freefly what does everyone say? well everyone i've heard "Get a few coach jumps so you dont learn bad habits you'll have to fix later on." obviously this is recommendation not a requirement, just as (IMO) canopy control classes should be after your a licensed jumper. Additional training is simply the smart thing to do, unfortunately everyone isnt smart, nor will they ever be.. if some one has been flailing on their head for 50 jumps and doesnt want to get any coaching i just wont jump with them.. i cant think of a single endeavor that you can learn well on your own without having a sound grasp of the fundamentals first. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

yeah..i've been briefed as to most of the policies there and i'm guessing there is no way a new jumper there will get waivered to land at the real DZ, (another reason to get off my ass and fill out the paperwork for my D) which is annoying but no biggie..however if i have to walk 2 miles to get back from the student field even ONCE, i wont be coming back..ever. ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

not at all you are paying to have your rig packed and packed properly in a reasonable amount of time IME thats what the advertised price gets you.. if you want it packed more quickly for whatever reason..thats up to you to work out with your packer.. the rules of supply and demand apply here just as to any other business.. i always make a point to tell my packer what kind of call i'm on and she makes a point to make sure i make it..that sometimes means i get packed "out of order" and i compensate them for the consideration, it also means i get "bumped" when she knows i'm not in a hurry...(lunch, dirt dive etc...) ____________________________________ Those who fail to learn from the past are simply Doomed.

i've been practicing Kendo and Iai on and off for about 12 years..started in college when a japanese AF officer's son started attending the fencing classes i taught.. i earned my shodan 3 years ago, but really havent had the time to stay involved.. i LOVE kendo..it remembers there is a martial component to the sport of "tag" that modern fencing has become.. when conversations like this became the norm i knew it was time to quit fencing..
