Same as in Bolivia! Ah...ok here is the gig. You won't get high off the stuff. That being said it will give you a lift. Say something like a strong cup of coffee or tea. The coca leaf it self is packed full of anti oxidants and fluoride. So as you drink it you are protecting your teeth and killing off all the bacteria that cause tooth decay. The infinitesimal part that does get you high, from what I'm told, works it way into your blood stream, ups your metabolism but just a little bit. Hence the weight loss side effect. Bikes (the hobby from which I come into this hobby) by nature, especially older ones (pre Fi) are complicated machines that have a personality all their own. And having a large community to extract info from is very useful. Initially, and still, I didn't know much about this sport and feared that due to the smallish community information would be difficult to come by. But after reading the SIM twice, and reading almost all of the posts here and viewing god knows how many videos it became self evident that this sport has an elegance that de gunking carburetors or tracking down electrical faults lacks. And as such the data one needs to be safe comes from just hanging around those that have partaken in this sport and just listening. Akin to learning how to ride on a race track. But then as so happens more often than not, we went off on tangents. Which was very squid of me to do as the OP. And I apologize. Best hand over cure besides fried food...Coca Tea. As in Coca leaves in hot water! If some one were to come to me and ask if they should pick up a bike.....and I liked them I would tell them no. No in that you can really hurt your self bad and it can some one else fault. This sport.....it's different. It's not a yes no thing. Well at least not for me anyway. It's a look in yourself, close your eyes, feel the earth beneath your feel, feel gravity pulling on your bones and wonder how it would feel to be free of it type of question. Seldom does one find a simple cut and dry answer to such a question. We fear heights for we fear getting hurt. We fear heights because perhaps we fear loosing our footing. Go to the drop zone, talk to a few people, check out some of the youtube videos look around your self and make a choice that makes you happy. I'm complex and so are my friends. And we tend to not let stray comments dig into our bones. Case in point, I am picked on every now and again when I walk into the office wearing my moto gear. I've also get the random head buffing while sitting at my desk. And comments about my new hair cut and advice on hair care products are the norm. Am I bothered by it? Naaaahh! It's all in good fun. There are three girls (two admins and one chem E) in my office who wish to do a tandem jump. Though not pole dancers they are very friendly, nice, know how to tell dirty jokes and on more than one occasion have bought me a beer at the local bar. Will that do? I would really like to see my friends from the riding community and from my work try this sport. I've already dragged them rock climbing with mixed results but I think they will really enjoy this and maybe decide to hang around. OK I'm not afraid of heights, but I was a bit twitchy when asked to put my feet on the wheel strut for the first time. After that it was all gravy. I can't tell you to do it, because it's your choice. But I would suggest maybe stopping over at the local LZ see what is what, talk to the guy or gal who does the tandems and see if it strikes your fancy. After all you can jump and just keep your arms crossed and enjoy the ride. It's not like standing on a ledge, or on a bridge or on a ladder....it's different. It's beautiful. It's peaceful. This may be one of those Mars Venus things.....but I'm a little lost here. What did I say now? Again, I'm coming here from a different world and of different sensibilities. Both via other hobby and work environment. I don't ride with espresso drinking guys on $30k bikes. I ride with guys who are mechanics and blue collar guys and gals. Who own kegarators and tell dirty jokes over cleaning and syncing carbs. And so perhaps my terminology and my vocabulary may be different from yours and I assure you I meant no offense. Yet I think much was taken. Case in point I'm still trying to figure out what was so offensive about Chillan Sea bass comment? But I am who I am, and you are who you are and I hope we can be friends.
