Let me ask you another question. Do you know of software programs that could be used to compare several different and very short sequences of letters and determine what their differences and similarities are? I have five sequences of letters with each sequence being about 60 to 70 letters long. Three of these sequences are strongly related to each other and the other two are also strongly related to each other. In addition, all five sequences are related in some uncertain manner at this point. If you wish, please reply by PM on Shutter's site.

My "self serving theory" is one of only a handful of things in Cooper World that is actually based on facts. Have you actually done anything that is based on proven facts?

Blevins, Unless I have gone blind and become senile, some of KC's service records have already been posted on this thread. You can't blame all of your problems on the fire you mentioned. Further, what makes you so certain the FBI doesn't have KC's fingerprints already. He doesn't need to be a criminal to have his prints on file there. A few decades back, I read a story about a young girl whose family toured the FBI's offices in Washington. As part of that tour she had her fingerprints taken during a demonstration. Several decades later, she died in some manner that I don't recall and those fingerprints were used to identify her. I have always assumed that my fingerprints were on file at the FBI since I was about 15 years old. They were taken at that time as a requirement for me flying as a passenger on military aircraft. Reportedly, Jo and Duane Weber became interested in the Cooper hijacking when another escaped airline hijacker (Richard McCoy?) was killed in a shoot out with the FBI when they tried to arrest him in the city where Jo and Duane then lived. Jo and Duane then reportedly did some checking into the DB Cooper hijacking but nothing became public until after Duane died in 1995 and then over a year later when Jo started claiming that Duane had said a few days before his death that he was Cooper. Jo's story about Duane is pure baloney. Jo can't even prove that Duane Weber was on the Planet Earth the day of the Cooper hijacking. Blevins is apparently having a mid-life crisis and that led him to get involved with some other people in writing a book about a specific individual who they claim (and/or deny claiming) was DB Cooper. They have not produced a scintilla of evidence to support their allegations. In fact Blevins' book was so poorly researched that his famous cat, Hobo, could have done the research, and probably did. If Blevins recent posts are to be believed, Hobo may be going to branch out and do reviews of other peoples books. I always thought he requested the extra chutes to imply he was taking a hostage with him, so the authorities wouldn't sabotage any of the chutes. That's just an opinion. While the airliner was on the ground in Seattle, the flight crew was told (see the ground radio transcripts) that the FAA's Chief Psychologist was predicting that the remaining flight attendant would remain as a hostage and forced to parachute with Cooper and that the airliner would be blown up when they jumped. That was his explanation for the request for 2 back and 2 reserve parachutes.

All of those different numbers are just to see if you are paying attention. When Cooper jumped, the airliner was cruising at about 170 Knots Indicated Airspeed (KIAS). This is what the pilots were seeing on their Airspeed Instruments. It is also the same value the crew would see on their instruments if the airliner was at Sea Level flying in a standard atmosphere (such as the 1962 US Standard Atmosphere). Correcting that 170 KIAS value for the 10,000 feet altitude and temperature, the speed of the airliner with respect to the air mass surrounding it is about 195 Knots True Airspeed (KTAS). Knots, or Nautical Miles Per Hour, is the standard unit for speed in Commercial and Military Aviation. A Knot is equal to 1.15 Statute Miles Per Hour (MPH). So for the masses, that 195 KTAS becomes about 225 MPH. This is actually the "free stream velocity" of the air, with respect to the airliner, outside the air mass disturbed by the airliner's passing. Say a point that would be 200 or 300 feet abeam of the airliner at the instant it passed by. Robert99

I don't know exactly what 377 told you (would 377 clarify if necessary?), but I imagine he was only discussing the best way to avoid such things as tumbling and disorientation. I doubt very much if 377 was talking about "testing" a parachute to see if it would work. People wearing only one parachute have survived emergency ejections at Mach 3+ (over 2000 MPH) at or above 70,000 feet. Making a voluntary jump at 175 MPH is nothing heroic. Robert99

If you don't believe that's what Cooper had in mind when he tied up the bag, and then did the cord around his waist...then why do you think he did those things with the bag and the cord? I doubt he was tying the rope around his waist to try and lower himself to the ground. If he released the bag, he probably did that after the chute had fully inflated. The picture, other than the military garb, makes perfect sense. I believe you disagreed with my assessment not because it is impossible, but because I was the one who suggested it. My personal opinion, due to the fact that Cooper did not have a reserve chute, is that he went to the bottom of the stairs...held onto the bag...and then pulled the ripcord right off the stairs. Once it inflated, it would pull him away from the aircraft. He may have released his hold on the stairs while the chute was actually inflating. Once he stabilized and the chute was fully inflated, that's when he would have let the bag drop below him. As long as the bag and the paracord holding it were not subject to full opening shock, (because he is holding the bag) it would be more than able to support the twenty-two pounds of money from the paracord holding it. Type 3 550 cord has a minimum of 550 pounds strength. I'm not a skydiver, but I know that much. Cooper taking a freefall off the stairs with a single, untested chute? Sure, that could happen. But that takes more nerve than most people possess. Pulling off the stairs to MAKE SURE THE DAMN THING WORKS before you just leap out there into darkness...is much more likely in this situation. It is safer, and more like a static line jump. If the chute doesn't pop, then you can go back up the stairs and try the sport model. I don't believe for a second he just went to the bottom of those stairs with that money bag and a single parachute and yelled 'Geronimo'. Engines sceaming above your head? Probably some fluctuations on the stairs when he already had to use his own weight to force them down? It's dark, it's noisy as hell? Probably over an area he wasn't planning on anyway? At night? Not a chance in hell. I would bet money on it. He eased his ass to the bottom of those stairs and just tried the ripcord right there. As I said, if it doesn't work, he can go back and try the other chute. To just trust your life to a single chute without knowing if it will work, well...that's hard to swallow. Especially when you have another chute available up in the cabin. Look, I understand popular culture likes to believe Cooper just leaped off into the night like it was nothing. But I have tried many times to put myself into the shoes of someone who would actually be crazy enough to leap out the back of a jet at night, using a set of moving stairs. And every time I think about it, and couple that with the stair problems, the no-reserve, the added weight of the money bag, I just don't see a Geronimo here. I see a guy who probably eased himself down the steps backwards and pulled the cord at the bottom. This makes sense if you take into account the conditions he faced. Replies to Blevins list above by number: 1. The only factual conclusion that can be drawn is that Cooper knew the approximate driving time from McChord AFB to SEATAC. 2. Evidence of Cooper did turn up on the ground. It is the money that he was seen tying around his waist and which later turned up at Tina Bar. 3. The simple fact that the money did turn up at Tina Bar, and at least a significant period of time after the hijacking, is evidence that he landed on solid (or reasonably so) ground and not in water. 4. Basically, what happened to the missing reserve parachute is meaningless. There is no evidence that it was a positive factor in the jump. If Cooper jury rigged it to the back pack parachute, it would have a negative impact on his survival. The same goes for the missing brief case. 5. Cooper apparently did want to jump relatively early and near the Seattle area. This does not mean that he was from the Seattle area but it probably suggests that he wanted to jump reasonably close to civilization. 6. I believe the FBI has stated that a number of means were used to identify the Amboy parachute (the one Blevins is obviously referring to). And the FBI had the parachute documentation paperwork and knew how all four parachute were obtained regardless of what Cossey said. 7. That assumption is beyond belief. 8. The assumption that Cooper was still holding some of the money five years after the hijacking is another real stretch. Basically, Cooper didn't have anything to worry about after five years. He was home free if he was still breathing. 9. There is no evidence to support any such scenario. 10. I believe that the FBI stated that the descriptions of Cooper given by each of the flight attendants were consistent. The weather on the evening of the hijacking was measured as usual by the National Weather Service and can be found in their records. The flight attendants are the ones who interacted with Cooper throughout the hijacking and their descriptions of his actions take precedence over that of others who were not involved with him.
