Advice for an AFF Student RE: Early flare
diablopilot replied to hechz's topic in Safety and Training
Stop looking down at where you think your feet are going to hit and you'll have less trouble with flaring high at all. If you do find yourself flaring high (20 to 30 foot range) pause in your flare, then use the remaining toggle stroke to cushion your landing and prepare to PLF. It should not be all that "hard" a landing if you're on appropriately sized canopies. If you flare high (20 to 30 foot range) do not "give back" the flare. The canopy will surge and you'll likely not be aware enough to pull the canopy out of the resulting dive. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. The latest scam. Why bother reducing, when you can buy your guilt away. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

What's wrong with the Trade Organization that already exists? The PIA? It used to have DZ's that belonged. And who's to say that without the GM program, the USPA still couldn't manage an Airport Defense Program? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. How many riggers still pack round reserves
diablopilot replied to riggerrob's topic in Gear and Rigging
I do! I do! Oh, wait.....still missing that "ticket". ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
wow thanks for the helpful answer. Just guessing that anybody who tests for acid is probably rigger themslves. I agree wholeheartedly that such a 27 year canopy, that had acid mesh for over 20 year would be foolish to trust a life to, even after any possible "repairs" are done. I wouldn't use a 22ft for any kind of emergency rig anyway :). I do plan to give it a bath, just to see if it will work. Afterwards.... perhaps cut the lines and put it on eBay. Or draw some skulls and bones with a Sharpie, then give it a bath and cut the lines off and ... still sell on eBay. Thanks for the answers ! Don't chop it up! I'll take it, jump it (not as a reserve) to destruction! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

AT that point the unit CLEARLY has a defect. Not only does common sense say don't jump it, but the law (FAR's) say so as well. Glad your friend is ok. She made a mistake, possibly through ignorance. No blame is needed, simply a lesson learned by the ENTIRE community. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Very cool! -

With a box or camera plate installed is there a gap big enough to get a suspension line under tension into? Is there any sort of ramp to deflect it from said gap? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
It's a very comfortable helmet. My FTP was pretty good, but the My Vapor fits me beautifully! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

It's been sitting in a tool box for a long time. Need to take a little emery paper to it. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

The best canopy pilot in the world
diablopilot replied to stevomooo's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I'll throw out another vote for Jay Mo for the traditional comp events. He brings the heat! As for the freestyle, I give much respect to Andy Farrington, Jeffro, Craig G. (Yeah, him) and JT. As to who I try (not very well) to model my flying after, that would be Clint, and JC. The both have the smoothest, cleanest style IMHO. -
I LOVE this helmet. SO comfortable. Really like how the top plate is accessed with the side screws, vs top. The plate is super wide, The angle is a smidge more flat than my old FTP, meaning I have to hold my chin up just a bit more on the tandem videos, but it's an easy change. With the chin guard coming up a bit higher than the FTP it can be tricky to put my tounge switch in my mouth, but not too bad. The best bit is how wide the face opening is. I wear glasses and this is the first camera helmet I've owned that doesn't make the glasses a hassle.

I have that one, selling currently. The most prone to release that I can remember is the current ratchet strap, before the protective cover was built up. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

A bunch. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I can't agree more! Soy Milk is bullshit too. Soy beans don't have nipples last time I checked. What's wrong with selling soy juice? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Turkey Bacon is bullshit. However compared to what they call bacon in the UK, our pork bacon is pretty weak too. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

WTH, we might as well start the Happy Birthday Sunshine thread now!

Happy Birthday Sunny-One! Hope it's a blast! ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
I still say demo before you buy. You may be surprised how much the perfomance of your parachute can be the design rather than the size. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Dump the F111 170. When your ready to get recurrent you'll probably be able to handle a 170 ZP after a few jumps on student gear. Demo a 170. Then decide to downsize. Or buy a 170, they always hold their resale. No one ever did wrong by not downsizing.

whats that little bungee at top of rigs?
diablopilot replied to taylor.freefall's topic in Gear and Rigging
In that case, forget the bungee and use a velcro keeper. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
