The entire BOD (as far as I can tell) is in the room. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

If there's wireless, I plan to at least be posting. Will probably start a new thread with live from USPA updates. -
Every business is like that. Ever worked in the corp world and listened to the 'water cooler' talk that occurs sometimes. I've been ccied on some emails in my old job that aired out worse laundry than this thread ever has. And these were execs with MBA's bickering and gossiping like little pre-teen girls. Yes I have. And I've worked for several DZ's over the years. I still stand my my assessment.

I'd go with the suggestion above if you've not been in a wind tunnel, check out the Orlando SkyVenture. Of course there's one in Utah now, right? Been there?

Nicely done report!

I own and shoot 1 Canon lens and 4 Sigma lenses. Not saying Canon isn't quality stuff, but I wouldn't be using the Sigma if I didn't get great and consistent results. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

3 words. They are junk. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

It's a nice lens, I had one for a while, but went back to my Sigma 14mm. For the 15mm on a 10D (1.6 multiplier for the CCD) it has the effect of a 24mm on a 35mm camera. One difference you'll see with the multiplier is the "fish eye" effect is cropped out, as compared to the effect from a full frame camera. I found a manual setting just a bit short of Infinity to be the best for all around photography, and the subject's you'll be shooting. I did not like it so much for "over the top" bigway shooting, as it seemed wider than I liked, but great for around the outside and close in shots. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Ditto. I had 1000 tandems, and had to work to put myself into one. Maintaing an arch when you're not relative to the wind is what causes and makes it get worse. I haven't tried the "tracking out of it" method, but think the ball up and take the rotation method works great. Being aware of the relative wind on exit is THE key to avoiding it. Simply blasting out the door and expecting a "hard arch" to fix everything will bite and instructor in the ass eventually. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. 1st malfunction--probably due to hard inserts in pillows

So a pair of blast handles isn't the way to go? Blast handles work great! Just gotta be smarter than the handle, but we are talking about skydivers now ain't we? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -

You can get one here: http://www.uspa.org/shop/pubs/IRM.htm and a requirement of any of the instructional rating courses is that you are using the most up to date version. Buy it, you owe it to those you'll be coaching.

I know the Jim Wallace School has been using the bands for more than a few years, and I think it's a great idea. I might pick up a set. As for spins, my student is paying big money to make a skydive and have some fun. I'm going to do whatever they request within the limits of safety. That means no freefall flips, but most everything requested under canopy is fair game. The key is to monitor and check with the student to see the effects of the activities. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

I would say that it's not *very* common. Things that a Tandem Instructor can do to help prevent illness: Proper Harness adjustment. This is probably one of the leading causes of under canopy "woozy-ness", as an improperly adjusted harness can restrict blood flow to and from the extremities, causing an "altered" consiousness. Assess your student. Ask on the ground if they get motion sickness. Adjust your freefall according to their answer. Ask how they feel after the canopy opens, adjust flight accordingly. Make the harness more comfortable. Give them the controls and assist them with flying. Ask how they feel after your first set of turns. Adjust remaining flight accordingly. Loosen the harness. After landing loosen the harness as soon as it is safe to do so. Things students can do to prevent illness: Eat, Hydrate, tell the instructor if they are subject to motion sickness. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

AMEN!! Those are the ONLY three things a government owes its people. Well at least the educate and provide healthcare...the feed part I could argue. Frankly, I think the government's responsibilities should be to get out of my way and let me feed myself and those I want to feed, let me get educated or let me get my kids educated, and let me get healthcare for myself and whomever I want to care for. I don't want government food - I was in the Army, and I'll tell you - I'd take McDonald's over an MRE any dya. Government education? I had it, and it worked okay for me. I'll give it that. Healthcare? Um, I'd prefer to stay out of government healthcare (ER's, etc) for just the reason you stated. I'd rather find a good private doctor and pay him or her to take care of me. OK, now there's two of us. Anyone else? ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
