Precision, who pioneered the use of HMA on sport mains in the USA, is using 400lb Dacron for the mid and lower control lines. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Went great! Smooth flight, no winds to speak of enroute, had a lunch and gassed the plane in Paso Robles, then a nice trip back to Santa Ynez, and then up and over the hills into Santa Barbara. I love it. Bit quiet now in the cockpit that I'm not blabbering away at my instructor, but had a great time.

I never knew that. I always wondered why the guy would be slow and dirty for a fly-by, and of course why he didn't power up, and go-around. Now I just wonder why you would test that sort of feature at that field. I would have found the longest runway available, with the least number of obstuctions on the departure end. That could be rumor, and we may never know just why..... http://www.crashdehabsheim.net/CRenglish%20phot.pdf ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. In your first clip, the A320, IIRC that was a failure of the "go around" function during an "auto land" test of the flight control computer. As for the B52, that pilot had a history of show off performance and got away with it because of the old school way of doing things in the AF. As for the Boeing 777, I honestly cannot believe the pilot did not have tower clearance for the "option", he probably did not have company permission for the flyby, but that's a different matter all together. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. High WLs, Low Experience.. Where Are the S&TAs?
diablopilot replied to MagicGuy's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I find there are two types of S&TA. Those that care and those that don't. Of those that care, many are hamstrung by the DZ's they jump or work at, and are not able to be as effective as they'd hope. It's a tough job, especially when a call you have to make makes waves at the DZ you jump at. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
Sorry, not even close. I jumped a system like that 5 years ago and I was far from the first. The 1988 Seoul Korea Olympic Rings Jump was filmed and transmitted to the ground live while in freefall, and I'll bet that that's not the first time either. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. From what I've seen the designer of the system prefers the term "Breakaway", so that's what I try to use, but I'll admit, I slip and use "Cutaway" sometimes too. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

What exactly are you cutting?
-
Absolutely, and I probably need to clarify. If I am completely unable to communicate with a "passenger" I won't jump them. However there is a significant loss of "control" in an AFF or Static line jump. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.
-
Ah, whatever, It's "Breakaway" in any event but no one wants to use that term either. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Condition of microline reserve cable on Sigma
diablopilot replied to alexey's topic in Gear and Rigging
Ray, the problem is one of wear and tear in the field. Put that fabric ripcord on a student rig and have them land repeatedly over the course of a couple years in a sandy landing area. Then try the same for an up jumper rig where maintenance may not be the jumpers first concern. Thats going to be the true test of survivability of the item. We're not seeing a problem with pull forces on the current ripcords in the industry and they are more durable. The only motivation I see for this change is cost, and I don't think thats enough of a reason to change. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. If the international standard in aviation were say, French, then I'd be compelled to learn it if I wanted to be involved in aviation. I didn't make the rules. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

The legal maximum is 8000 MSL I believe. As to the contents of the O2 bottles, I can't comment, but as to the non-functioning defibrillator, I believe AED's are so dummy proof they only function when they sense a specific hear rhythm. If the woman had a medical condition requiring supplemental O2, she should have been on a medical transport flight. I'm thinking AA (as worthless as I think they are from a customer service point) is NOT culpable here. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Bingo. So a check might be running it with a 1/2 tank and the gas cap off for a bit. If that's the problem, then a new gas cap is about 8 bucks.

If that's the only motivation, then that stinks. On the other hand if the goal is to bring someone passionate about jumping into the sport then I suggest the following: Aviation in the USA (and in some of the rest of the world) is an English language activity BY LAW for reasons of safety. Communication between ALL participants in an emergency or any other setting is paramount to safety. Anything beyond an introductory tandems in the USA should be taught in English. Period. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously.

Yes. People may not like him because of personality conflicts, but IMO Jeb has "put in the time", learned and become the best because he listened and respected those that have come before him, and has worked hard being self motivated to gain the skils and abilities he has. He is about as far from being a "Rock Star" as he can be. And I think that's much of the reason he's been getting so much flack. I honestly believe that if Jeb could make this happen without having to resort to fund raising and using media to do that, he would. But he can't so he's exposing him self to criticism in the pursuit of his dream.

What percetage of take home pay do you spend to fill you cars tank
diablopilot replied to Squeak's topic in The Bonfire
I don't make the same amount every week. One week it might be 11% and another 2%. Your poll doesn't work for everyone. ---------------------------------------------- You're not as good as you think you are. Seriously. -
