It's not the people that set the tax code. Its politicians. I am sure if politicians set a new tax code and said that everybody must pay then everybody WOULD pay. Don't blame the poor for the fact that they don't pay the same taxes as the rich. It's the politicians that set it up this way. And actually the vast majority of Americans aren't required to pay "income tax". Yes, that's very true. And before someone posts again a section of the tax code which would seem to make you liable for income tax let's take a break and learn a bit about law. I don't know if there are any lawyers reading this thread, but if there are maybe they could chime in . See , the thing here is that when a law is written words may be defined differently,"under the law", than what the common definition may be. As a matter of fact , most new laws also include defenitions of words in the new statute. The tax code is no different . Words in the tax code may not hold the same definition as what most of us would believe the common defenition is. There is a list of defenitions included in the tax code. The tax code applies to any one living in a "state" of the United States. But how is "state" defined under the law? It's not the same as the common defenition. I mean, you or I would assume that Alabama or North Dakota were states and that if we lived there we would be subject to this law. Interesting is the defenition of "state" under the tax code!
