I doubt you've taken any IRC's. Why try to change something you haven't experienced? All of the tests are open book, to be completed before the course. The course is there to review the test, teach you what you need to know for that discipline, and test your ability to actually do it (both on the ground and in the air). They work well enough, I ended up not using them because I found that if the wind is bothering my eyes, I can sort of squint and that seals my cheeks against the bottom of the glasses. I pack main and reserve toggles with a fold in them so when they get out in the breeze, they open up. In over 400 jumps (many of which are camera jumps) and 2 saves of packing this way, never once caused an issue and I was even thanked by one of the guys I saved for having the toggles easy to get their hands into. For what it's worth, the towel is only there to serve as a barrier between the weights and the canopy. It would probably not have any effect on the humidity of the canopy. McDonalds worked for me. Seriously, this would be something that you should go over with experienced people/instructors that can jump with you. I had almost the exact opposite experience with the Spectre. So much so that I gave it back to PD earlier than my demo turn in date. My Sabre2 and Safire2 both opened better than that dang pile of nylon. My Safire2 has the sweetest openings I've had in my limited canopy experience. I don't use a humidifier. My apt is usually around a 50% humidity according to my thermostat. For the ones that want to stay fluffy on me... I put a clean towel over the canopy and put 2x50lb weight plates on it for a while. That usually squeezes enough of the air out and makes it nice and easy to get a clean fold with.
