Longmont City Council will take up skydiving noise
theonlyski replied to stratostar's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm stumped, what's a C-boo? I already have hearing loss associated with the first two and I'm going for the trifecta! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/De_Havilland_Canada_DHC-4_Caribou "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message -

I've got just the outfit I just had a mental flash back to the Grown Ups 2 car wash scene. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm416l3cvN8 "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message -
I have no idea either. as far as I can tell almost nobody downsizes their reserve except when they change containers so stuffing it makes no sense (for aesthetic or practical reasons). Actually, I think the owner is finally going to give me a christmas present and sell that reserve. I don't think that this kind of 'ripcord stop' would cause an issue. The only issue I could think of off hand would be if a ripcord stopped before the pin was extracted from the loop, which wouldn't be hard to accidentally do. What happens to the reserve ripcord once you pull it, the pin locks it and you let go of the handle? Does it suck back up to the housing? FWIW, I know a jumper that ordered a rig based on the canopies that were going into it and let the mfg pick the rig size. The combination that was recieved is listed on the vendors site as being "EXTREMELY tight, requires skilled rigging". Why the mfg would do this, I haven't the slightest fucking clue. That rig is a BITCH to close. Actually... I believe we're going to have a couple positions open up doing basic IT work. But we're in Tampa. I don't need my computer fixed either... This is awesome!! I have a couple Arduino's running day to day stuff for me, and this would look a whole hell of a lot better than the current set up with the sensors, relays and all of the associated wiring. Coach course cost - outrageous or not?
theonlyski replied to aeroflyer's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Given your post in the other thread http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4564090#4564090 It looks like you're hung up on money. Are you trying to become a coach to make a paycheck or are you doing it for the fun? It's your choice, don't feel like I'm trying to push it on you. If you're trying to make a paycheck on it, then eventually it will even out and give you money back, but it's still one of the lower paid at the DZ. I have made more doing camera and tandems than I have doing anything else. I got my coach rating as soon as I could, even a few years later, I think I've charged maybe one or two people for a coach jump. I did it for fun and I liked working with the students. I hated when I was a student thinking about how much a simple jump was going to cost me, so I payed it forward. Granted, I get paid for tandems and AFF jumps, but those are a whole different game in terms of responsibility and training. I have an LSZ-1 and like Eric said, it won't punch 5 cord. You MIGHT be able to get away with FF at best. I did manage to push E thru several layers of Type-8 but it was straining pretty hard. Pushing E thru some parapack and maybe one or two layers of Type-8 would probably work, but that's asking for a lot. Also, the feed dogs make it a pain in the ass to work with line. Oddly enough I bought my 143W2 after I had the Sailrite and it does a much cleaner job on any line work. I highly doubt with a class of 8 that there is only one instructor and no additional evaluators. What's the breakdown of the course? Do they include the jumps (theirs and yours, just theirs, none), rating fees? Is the course traveling to the DZ or are they based there? If you don't like what they're charging, take your money elsewhere. They will charge what people will pay. I've never had a class that was that large for any of my ratings (coach, AFF-I, T-I) They were all 4 people or less and we had 2-3 evaluators for all but my coach course (which I did alone with one examiner). Might also help to get the useragent that the browser is presenting. (though I'm not sure you guys filter by agent, it would probably work) http://whatsmyuseragent.com/ "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message

I can tell you that you probably want to avoid "South of the border" though you'll see the damn signs for a LONG time before you get there. I normally carry a water bottle of 100LL in my Citabria just so I can dump it and feel like a real pilot in case of an emergency. THAT'S what those bottles are for?? I thought they were for the long cross countries... Guess ya learn something new every day. It's quite obvious. The damn rats were chewing thru the fuel lines so they were using Halon to kill them. Duh. "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message -

Not surprising. As much research as she's done to fulfill her agenda, there's bound to be some other people out there. That group says: Ironically, I'd think that having a longer runway would lessen the risk of a crash (due to not running over and such) and lead contamination? Most of the piston pounders that I'd think would use this airport, probably could already use it with it's current length runway (though maybe a bit tight for some). Elevation: 37 ft. / 11 m (estimated) Dimensions: 3200 x 60 ft. / 975 x 18 m Surface: asphalt, in good condition So, depending on the expansion, they're probably looking more for jet traffic which... of course, doesn't use 100LL. Wouldn't ya know it? There is a DZ at that airport! http://www.skydiveeastcoast.com/ Given that it's asphalt, I don't know of any current jump planes that need a longer runway. We put fully loaded Otters, PAC-750s, Caravans, C-182s (I believe a Twin-Bo was there too) all off of a 3100' grass strip with obstacles on both sides. I get plenty of these emails from PayPal, Bank of America and such. PayPal doesn't have this email address and I don't have any BoA accounts... pretty easy to tell they're fake even without opening! Pretty sure it is. However on mobile devices it could be annoying. Would be an easy fix but not sure if they have bigger fish to fry. Well, maybe she will try to get the FAA to shut down V85, looks like it goes right above her area. "I may be a dirty pirate hooker...but I'm not about to go stand on the corner." iluvtofly DPH -7, TDS 578, Muff 5153, SCR 14890 I'm an asshole, and I approve this message -
If I recall correctly, there are two restaurants very close to the dz (I think one of them is actually at the dz and more of a snack thing) at the airport... I'm sure someone will correct me. Just last night I was flying at 2500' with a 25kt headwind... Of course, I was just screwing around, so I turned around and got a 25kt tail wind. At 80kts I wouldn't jump right over the dz, but so long as the winds lower (say 6k and below) are generally the same directions and the ground winds are good, I've got no problem jumping.
