Having had both of those A/V suites, I can still tell you, I wont ever pay for one as long as there is AVG Free. The only advantage that Norton, Trend or MacAfee have on AVG is the firewall. And honestly, they slow your computer WAY WAY down. I have uninstalled Norton Internet Security from more than a few systems and put AVG on it. Users reported that the PC never ran faster. And I've never NOT had AVG catch a virus. You are always best off testing by process of elimination. Have another computer (laptop or such) and plug it into the same wire, see if problem persists. If you can, try that same network card on another computer and see if it still shows up or not. It could be something on your computer that is just tripping the NIC out.
