They didn't disobey an order, the events are usually sent out as being "Maximum participation" type events... Not "Everyone MUST go". Its not uncommon for the guys who dont attend events to be left back to clean up. If I dont take my block leave, I fully expect to be cutting grass, pulling staff duty, or cleaning up the area... why? Because the shit has to get done. If I don't go on leave, well... that just means that I'm there to do it. I want to know if it was an AIT company, or an actual non TRADOC unit. It looks like the webbing helped wedge the middle ring inside the large one. The more pressure you put on it, the tighter it wedges in, and once you drop pressure, the ring would move through it. Maybe slightly larger big ring, or slightly smaller middle ring may have been able to prevent it from happening? (Yes, I realize it should have been caught on a gear check, but one more safety against it happening is always better) Either way, good job man! Part of the safety difference is the cultural attitude towards driving as well as the level of training for drivers in Germany vs. the average in the US. Never mind the age difference in learning how to drive as well as the cost to obtain a license in Germany. Now, add TUV vehicle standards verses the average state's standard (some states don't even have yearly vehicle inspections). The differences are great, but the short version is that basically Germans take driving (or historically has) much more seriously. as an example, i had a 1997 bmw 318, and i thought it funny that the cup holders couldn't hold anything bigger than a can of red bull. i mentioned it to the salesman and he said the reason for that was that germans didn't understand the need for a cup holder in the first place. when you drive, you drive. if you want a coffee, stop and enjoy a coffee. shouldn't be drinking it on the road in the first place. kinda makes sense, but like dave mentioned, it's a cultural thing. Wow, sounds like I struck a chord! Regardless, I've seen it, jumped it, inspected it, and heard similar feedback from others. It's a fine fabric for light wingloading mains, but I have higher standards for reserves. Reserves should be dependable, and to me - this fabric is not. I don't recommend it.
