  3. IMHO Don't get into a twist about this, people do strange things for strange reasons,,,,don't spend hours speculating into her reasons and making assumptions and trying to figure this out,,,,you'll drive yourself mad ,,,,,relax,,go with the flow,,,spend some time to yourself,,friends whatever. Talk to her about it when you finally hook up on the 23rd, tell her how you feel, stay calm civil and keep it cool. I realize you're newlyweds and have been apart quite a bit, trust me you got the rest of your lives to be together and get on each other's nerves . My guess is she needs a bit of downtime, de-stress, get the family thing out of the way and then when you get there she'll be re-charged ready to carry on ,,,,,,,,,just be cool and when you see her give her a big hug, kiss, tongue whatever just to make sure your getting back together is on the right foot. Relax it will be okay "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  4. I learned to flat pack before PRO packing. It gave me a real good perspective on the layout of the different lines and canopy itself. "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  5. not to worry,,,,they have not invented a B.o.b that can mow the lawn "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  6. another fine aircraft killed by the government (Canada) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avro_Canada_CF-105_Arrow sorry can't get the clicky to work "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  7. Quotejeezzz dammm I can't resist this one... I'v read some stuff about 'low pull contests were fairy tales' ... it's just they were rarely planned .. i watched 1 over Perris ... 13 way on Fri 13th, we all understood we open at 13 ... tracking off I am going in to pull at 14 and notice Dylan and Mark Sechler tracking side by side and looking at each other ... and still going ... planned ? no ... they rarely were .. but they kept tracking ... i didn't notice who won... first hard pull EVER on my hip mount hand deploy ... it came on second try ... but I was not giving it anymore... was headed for reserve next point is... the 'Intentional' low pullers knew where they were... knew the odds ... knew the best solution to a problem ... (if your real low... just pull the reserve..)
  8. when I worked as a Health and Safety Officer in a manufacturing plant we had a saying. "silence is consent" "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  9. This is from the UPT Tandem Manual CRW IS POSITIVELY BANNED ON ALL TANDEM JUMPS UNDER ANY AND ALL CIRCUMSTANCES (see fatality section). This guideline is not optional. It must be followed or the Tandem Instructor and Tandem rig owner will be in violation of the User Agreement under which Tandem jumping is operated and will consequently no longer be allowed to legally perform tandem jumps. here's the web link http://www.unitedparachutetechnologies.com/PDF/Support/Manual/SIGMA-MANUAL-COMPLETE.pdf this can be found on page 158, note I am not a TI, I have no interest in being a TI, I have done 5 Tandem jumps and have actually lived / worked on a DZ in Canada. I have seen tons of tandem jumps being done and have had the opportunity to ask lots of questions about tandem skydiving as part of my skydiving journey. hope the clicky works, if not would someone please fix it. 10. Try making 4000 video jumps. You develop a pretty good eye for what real life will look like on video, and what video looked like in real life. But really, when the leading edge fo your canopy is in the hands of a student, what about that are you having trouble judging? How much of the canopy is in their hands? The truth is that any amount of canopy is too much, and anything within 15 or 20ft. of a tandem canopy is too close. Were you aware that the manufacturers of tandem equipment have banned any type of tandem crew? If so, why would you advocate these 'professionals' breaking the rules? What other rules would you be willing to excuse them from? How would you feel if they were breaking rules with your family member as a passenger? Maybe you were not aware that this was against the rules, if that was the case, how do you feel about the situation now that you do know? I can see that you jump at Twin Cities, are you aware that one dead tandem student can shut down the DZ? Well, it's actually the lawyer for that student's familty that will drain the assets of the DZ with a lawsuit, but the end result is no more DZ. Would still support the rule breakers if they cause the DZ to go out of business? With video proof of their negligence, and the testimony of an 'expert witness' who can confirm that this behavoir is in violation of the tandem mfg regulations, the waiver won't last one day in court. The DZ could easily be looking at a judgment against them in excess of $1,000,000. Now that you are aware of the risk these jumpers are introducing to your home DZ, does your opinion change any? +10
  11. The incident I am referring to was a premature deployment that happened when a pilot chute got out the door and the jumper was pulled through the side of the aircraft. The damage was substantial and had nothing to do with hitting the tail. Well, he may have hit the tail after he was pulled THROUGH the side of the airplane. There is a photo of the said incident in Dan Poynters Skydiving Handbook 10th Edition. What a read Here it is "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  12. Don't forget Lee Aaron, Allanaha Miles,,,, and I suppose you "might" be able to include Rob Halford too "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  13. Parachute School of Toronto, Saturday and Sunday, Weather permitting of course. "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  14. yeah, considering he died and left the daughter an orphan maybe this wasn't a good example. however he was an inspiration for me to get into skydiving. "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  15. Another guy who was an inspiration for speed climbing and rope jumping (i think that's what it is called) is Dan Osman (sorry if this is a repost) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T0Gf7Quc0Ws "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  16. I've been using 3 mil scuba diving gloves, so far no problems, the 3 mil is light enough to feel the hackey and the reserve and cutaway handles. The neoprene cuts the wind in freefall quite well, plus they go up my fore arms almost to the elbow. 17. one or two drinks a month, used to be daily but I cut back to almost zero to keep my weight in check. "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo

  20. and finally You're riding public bus transit and when your stop comes up you yell "DOOR"!!!!
  21. Compliments of Skypuppy I've always loved these 1. At university, you change course in midterm because you think you can still pass while spending 3, 4 or even 5 days a week at the dropzone. (of course, the two days you might actually go to class you spend thinking of jumping and doodling skydivers and little parachutes in the margins of your medieval philosophy textbook).... 2 You cut your honeymoon short a few days so you can go jump in the Hamilton Air Show. 3. You leave your wife to unpack the day after moving into a new house so you can go do a demo for Labatt's. (Water and phone not hooked up yet.) 4. You think about the time you've been involved in the sport not in years, but in how many friends you've lost to it. 5. You go give blood with your friends, not for a blood drive but because another buddy went in and needs all the blood you can give. 6. You resent being asked to go to family functions on weekends because your family 'should know you better by now'. 7. Whether you're canoeing a wilderness lake, or driving into downtown, you keep your eyes up, looking around thinking "I could do two seconds off that one! That's a decent one-second. There -- I could get someone to d-bag me off that!" 8. You think it's relatively normal to show up for work wearing a cast, or on crutches. 9. You hear reports on the news of an unnamed jumper from Southern Ontario dying while parachuting off a bridge, and because you know who you don't want it to be, you wonder who you'd rather it was instead.... 10. Your rig(s) are worth more than your wheels. 11. A girl you brought out to the dz says "It makes me horny when you open low...", and it scares you a bit because on your next jump you think you might.... 12. You show up at a new dropzone where you don't know anyone, and you can't think of any place you'd rather be. 22. Hey,, figured that since I've gotten a little more active posting in the Forums I should introduce myself. My name is Chris England, I live in Ontario, Canada. I've been jumping about 3 years, I got my solo certification last June and am working towards my A license. I read the Forums daily to learn as much as I can about skydiving in general. I've got about 70 jumps and appreciate any advice and insight veteran skydivers have to offer. Blues.
