_________________________________________ Aw, NO! We're not gonna open that can of worms again, are we? I really do wish, a standard for measuring square parachute would be established! PD, measures one way, Precision, another way... PIA, has another method... Chuck

_______________________________________ Going that small, could be more of a problem, than just shortening the loop. I don't think, you'd be able to make the loop short enough. I think, the over-all appearance would be too loose. Changing the D-bag, is not a good idea, either. The D-bag is made to the inside dimensions of the main container, The idea being, to fill out the container with the packed parachute putting enough perssure to keep the pin in place and not falling out of the closing loop. Try, getting with a rigger and share your ideas with him. JMO Chuck

That's funny! Reminds me of one of Robin Williams little bits. Robin (pretends) he's lifting a horse's tail... looks at the audience... "Amish mechanic!" You had to be there... Chuck

Manufacturer Instructions Mandatory? More Fuel for the Debate
masterrig replied to scdrnr's topic in Gear and Rigging
Rob, aren't Airworthy Directives sent to the FAA by the manufacturer ('s) and the FAA only prints and sends-out what the manufacturer ('s) send them? Same with Service Bulletins? In other words, the FAA doesn't just send-out 'their version' of what the manufacturer ('s) want. Chuck -

____________________________________________ Jumper03 and Councilman24 have answered that. When I was trying to decide whether to get a seat or chest rating, I had several 'older' jumpers tell me to get a chest rating... "you can log Racers as chests!" I was thinking more of the war bird pilots in my area as well as other pilots I knew who used seats. Besides, I see where more manufacturer's offer seats than those offering chests. Chuck
-
I'd have to agree with Mel, on this one. Also, since I deal with a lot of pilots, I get more seats. This may just be a regional thing but, the only chest mounts I've ever seen were those that were packed-up for several years and were no more than topics of conversation. I too, thought long and hard before I went for my second rating. In my area, seats were the 'obvious' choice. What is most 'common' in your area? I never have understood the idea of packing a Racer, to be able to log it as a chest. A Racer is a back! That's just my opinion. Seats and backs are more common. JMO Chuck

I have some experience with this. Remember the '93 Sugar Bowl between #1 Miami and #2 Alabama for the national title? Miami's riding a 30+ game winning streak and is the defending national champion, and nobody, well, save one voter, gave Alabama a rat's ass chance in hell of beating Miami and its star receiver Lamar Thomas, who was said to be the fastest player in the nation that year. Not to mention all the trash-talking the Hurricanes did in the weeks leading up to the game and the confrontation in the French Quarter, and then turning their backs on the Tide team as they made their entrance onto the field before the game. Alabama rolls 34 - 13, and shuts Miami out of the end zone on offense. Anybody remember one of the greatest defensive plays ever? The play where George Teague runs Lamar down from behind and strips the ball out and runs off in the other direction with it? Turns out Alabama was offsides on that play so Miami kept the ball for another play, but that was a touchdown-saving play right there and the rout was on. My greatest satisfaction was seeing Lamar sitting on the bench with his head covered in a towel in the final moments... Oh yeah, BABY!! Revenge was never so sweet! _________________________________________ Forking sportscasters. i think, they just talk to hear themselves talk! Chuck

How do I find an old Marine recruiting poster...
masterrig replied to jumpergirl's topic in The Bonfire
_____________________________________ Just for the heck of it, I checked e-bay and they show 61 items under 'U.S. Marine Posters'. You just never know. Chuck Yep, I just checked all of those. No luck. I am pretty sure it was a local poster, not used nationally. I've called the local recruiter's office here, but had to leave a message. Their answering machine message had me laughing all afternoon: "Congratulations, you have reached the Marines. Leave your name, number, and address and we will be right there." _________________________________________ Whoa! That's funny! Chuck -
