  1. I don't know the details behind the decision, but it appears that the USPA backed away from following through on a stupid decision they made. If that is the case, I would compliment them on listening to their members and changing a poorly thought out policy. Or you could complain about losing money on a booth rental deposit. It is a little like crying over spilt milk. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  2. He appears even more broke if you translate the morse code: For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  3. Done For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  4. Yes - I am sorry I mishmashed this thread by adding my incident to it. As far as not landing in the field, we can agree to disagree. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  5. Point 1: I didn't really want to describe too much detail, because it makes me look like an idiot. I was changing the way I pack my PC after watching Brian Germain's youtube video. In the process of changing my procedure and the way I was stuffing the bridle, I had a complete brain-fart and stuffed the hackey into the pouch. I did my handle checks on the plane, and felt the hackey but was wearing gloves. When I went to pull, I was wearing gloves, so I couldn't get it out. Point 2: I was directly over a golf course, and there were two large fields before the river so I could have in theory danced around in the sky looking for my free bag and still have a relatively safe place to land. I didn't give a shit about any of my equipment, I just wanted to land in the biggest field I could safely get to (the airport). There were two large areas of trees and a river it could have landed in, so following it down might not have worked anyway (see attached photo) Luckily for me, I took Ian Bobo's Canopy Control course in August and the 5th jump of that course we pulled 2 miles south of the DZ to practice returning from a long spot. That was exactly where I was and I had the benefit of a 15kt tailwind. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  6. I had a trapped PC yesterday. I only tried twice, then went to EP's. It was interesting how muscle memory took over. I reached for my cutaway pillow, since that is the way I constantly practice. My 'thinking brain' took over and I let go of the cutaway pillow and grabbed the reserve handle with both hands and pulled. Still haven't found the freebag, and had to buy a case of beer for my 1st reserve ride. My natural reaction was - "Get something out now!". I had no thought or interest in trying to get the PC out after my second attempt. I did have 'get-back-itis' and focused on getting back to the airport. When I was 300 ' AGL, I knew I was going to make it, but it was a 15 kt downwind approach. I also realized I hadn't done any practice flares like I should have because I was focusing on getting back so I was in half brakes all the way. Fortunately for me, my reserve is the exact same size as my main and it flared just fine. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  7. Yes I am relatively new to the sport, and the 3 jumpsuits I own came off of DZ.Com for $50- $100 each. Based on the input on this thread (thanks everybody) I will spend the coin to get a custom Tony Suit. I do question your statement "never need to buy another jumpsuit for your entire jumping career". Seems like all the 1000+ skydivers I know have several jumpsuits. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  8. GoT rules ! For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  9. I did a search, but nothing recent came up. I have a couple RW suits that are old and don't have booties. The one Tony Suit I have with booties has slick material and I fall too fast (and besides that - it is purple so I look like Barney the Dinosaur). Can anybody recommend someone who could put some booties on my slower falling suits. One is a Symbiosis and the other is an old double zipper 'flying elvis' type jumpsuit. Or am I wasting money and putting lipstick on a pig? Thanks in advance. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  10. Therein lies the problem. Congressmen are reasonably intelligent - they disagree because it benefits them - they are the ones to vote. Sucks to be us. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  11. Thanks for the link to the report. It makes sense. Do as little as possible to prevent making a bad situation worse. If I am dumb enough some day to have a two out (and some of my instructors think I am) I will know to make as few minor corrections as possible. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  12. We aren't sure where the story changed, but anybody with two brain cells would come to conclusion that McQueary told JoePA the whole story the day after it happened. You don't go to someone's home on a Saturday and not tell the whole story. Knock Knock Who is there? Just me, coming to your house on a Saturday to interrupt your life to mention some minor horse play with a 50 year old and 10 year old in the shower. Doesn't ring true. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  13. A separate post shows a roof landing with two out and some people indicate the skydiver should have steered away from the roof. Makes sense. I have never had a two out, so I am asking those who have how much is the steering impeded by the additional chute? Can you turn too much with the dominant canopy and create a wrap? Or does the biplane respond to inputs relatively normally? I'd hate to be asking these question when I am getting ready to land on a house. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  14. What is the general consensus on this advice? I've been train not to do this and would be generally worried about a canopy wrap if I chopped the leading canopy. I think this would make a bad situation worse. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  15. Actually you are not a rule breaker as it is not a BSR, but a recommendation, so technically you are a recommendation breaker. Everything in Section 5 of the SIM is a recommendation and as such doesn't the same weight as a requirement. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  16. +1 He doesn't seem to be that into it. If he is trying to get a position that requires trust and respect by sending you as a proxy, he is going about it wrong. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  17. The smarter the better. The sexiest part of a woman's body is her brain. Rather than looking for a size 0, try to find a woman smarter than you. It can be done. I've read your posts. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  18. Acutally my point is two wrongs make a bigger wrong and I don't feel sorry for the DZO if they get in trouble with the IRS or with the TI if he doesn't get paid. Neither should have put themselves in this position. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  19. We will probably never know the unbiased total story, but a previous poster raised excellent questions that, if answered, would make me feel more empathetic to the original post: I find it difficult to 'step back and have some integrity' when the whole transaction lacks integrity. It seems both the TI and the DZO lack integrity. I find it difficult to feel compassion for one thief when another thief doesn't split the loot. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  20. No - he should be blacklisted for illegally working in the United States without the appropriate visa. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  21. He asked a legitimate question that you continue to avoid. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  22. Ok, then in your opionion, what is a better use of government funds than providing the basic necessities of life? Keep in mind, private industry will almost always provide services cheaper than the government does, so it makes sense for the government to pay landlords rathing than becoming a landlord. Also, from the government's point of view it is cheaper to subsidize landlords to get people in apartments than it is to put the in jail for being vagrants. It is also cheaper to subsidize farmers than to jail looters who can't afford food. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  23. Arguably, the best use of public funds is to make sure that the general population is provided with food, clothing, shelter, and basic healthcare. Subsidies to allow people to afford those basic necessities are more easily justifiable than bailing out bankers. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  24. They aren't subsidizing the landlord - they are subsidizing the renters. The expense that is being subsidized would be passed on to the renters. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  25. That makes it easy for everyone to establish an S Corporation for about $99 and then pass through the deductions to their 1040 via a K1. That is a huge loophole. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
