Whichever DZ gave you the bowling speach has the highest degree of respect from me. They put your safety in front of their desire to make money. Just because you were successful at a different DZ certainly does not mean you weren't part of the problem. You were given a pretty serious 'time-out'. It is possible you approached the training at the second DZ with a more attentive attitude. Based on what they saw, you had the potential to seriously injure or kill yourself or others. It sounds like everything worked out for you. Congratulations on sticking with it and making whatever adjustments were necessary to be in this sport safely. But many people take it a step further and want to earn money from their hobby. The best way to start hating your hobby it to make it into a job. I am a PADI MSDT with 10 times more hours scuba diving in a rock quarry than in the ocean. I've pretty much given up scuba diving since learning to hate it as a job. anyone know much about liquid eyewear sunglasses
DiverMike replied to jtfreefly's topic in Gear and Rigging
I don't wear contacts, so I can't speak to that. The newer players are very comfortable to wear in a helmet as the frame of the sunglasses stops at the top of your ear and doesn't wrap around it. The strap holds them in place and there is no discomfort caused by your ear being smashed into the frame. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
anyone know much about liquid eyewear sunglasses
DiverMike replied to jtfreefly's topic in Gear and Rigging
+1 I have a set of Liquid Eyewear players I use on every jump. I purchased the gasket insert and tried using it, but didn't notice a great improvement as the frame was molded to my face so not much air was getting in my eyes in the first place. I don't like wearing the gasket when not skydiving, and it is a minor annoyance with minimal benefit putting the gasket in, so I don't use it. I also have a prescription lens and the glasses work great. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
Different, but similiar. I think a corporate raider would do a good job of pruning the US Post Office. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

It doesn't matter if the IRS disagrees with the DZO's classification of the employee as long as the DZO meets the 'safe harbor' of section 530 of the Revenue Act of 1978, to wit: •The “employer” does not treat any other individual holding a substantially similar position as an employee for purposes of employment for any tax period; •All required federal tax returns (for example, Forms 1099 are issued to the workers) are filed by the “employer” on a basis consistent with its treatment of the individual as a nonemployee; and •The taxpayer has a reasonable basis for not treating the individual as an employee. “Reasonable basis” includes: (a) judicial precedent or IRS rulings; (b) a past IRS audit; or (c) a long standing practice of a significant segment of the relevant industry; or some other “reasonable basis” satisfactory to the IRS. It basically boils down to: No other TI on staff is a W2 Employee, all TI's receive a 1099, this is a long standing practice of DZ's in the industry. I really wasn't trying to slam Obama. I question the decision made by someone on his staff that it was a good idea to litter Reagan's biography with fun facts about Obama. Who do they think would appreciate it? Who is going to read Reagan's biography and say, "Wow - I am glad to find out Obama celebrates MLK day. Who woulda thunk?" For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
-
It is annoying to have the following in Reagan's Biography: Is it really pertinent to Reagan's biography what Obama and his family does on a Vacation day? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

Newsweek Strikes Back - Obama Gay President Cover
DiverMike replied to lawrocket's topic in Speakers Corner
The federal government has been stripping rights away from the states for quite a while using the interestate commerce clause of the constitution. Now Obama gives a shit about states rights? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
My fault - I thought we were discussing if it was appropriate rather than pertinent to display that picture on the cover. I do feel like we are feeding a Troll, which is what I think Time Magazine wanted. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
-
I can't follow your logic. Regardless of societal acceptance of bathing, a naked 3 year old on the cover would be scandalous. I find fault with your assertation that since it depicts a necessary function it is appropriate to be on the cover of a magazine. Sex is necessary for procreation, but a 'money shot' on the cover of Time magazine would be inappropriate. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
-
Giving a small child a bath could be considered necessary for general hygiene, so your argument is also valid for putting naked pictures of 3 year olds on the cover of the magazine. The cover was done for shock value, and yes there are probably some sick people looking at it and pleasuring themselves. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

What annoys me is I am pretty much the 3rd level help desk for IT issues in my company. When I contact a vendor's call centerfor customer support, the problem is usually very complex and far beyond the knowledge of the first two people I have to go through. I still have to go through them and answer their "What color is your carburator?" questions. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

I find BMI annoying. At 5'9 170 lbs I am considered 'overweight' even though I have a 32 in waist and the 'mass' that puts me overweight is muscle. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

Secret Service hooker tells details...except she's not a street walker
DiverMike replied to normiss's topic in The Bonfire
I'm pretty sure the vetting process for becoming a Secret Service agent is much more selective than becoming a 3rd world whore. I'm not surprised the whore is an idiot as I don't believe idiots are weeded out of the profession of prostitution. I would think the process to become a Secret Service agent would weed out most idiots. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
Republican neo-Nazi gun nut goes on killing spree

I must admit I did a double take when I read that. What information of any value is the color of the house? Does it make tjhe story any more/less horrific that the current or previous owner of the house preferred earth tones? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board. -
Actually that is taken a little out of context. The full quote is: Madison was refering to limiting the power of the federal government. All of the founding fathers would shit bricks if they saw how much power we have allowed the federal government to acquire. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

Wow - two outside videos and and handcam - you really are a rock star. I liked the views when you docked on the sitflying videographer. Very few people do tandems and of those almost none have that many cameras recording the event. You are lucky. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.

+1 It will probably turn out to be very minor damage to your sinus cavities due to barotrauma (overexpansion injury due to rapid descent). It could also be an agressive form of flesh eating cancer that infects your brain stem and makes you think taking medical advice on a skydiving forum is a good idea. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
