  1. What I don't understand is who is lobbying against making it a BSR? Who is taking the other side of the argument that sub 200 jump people should be playing with a camera? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  2. Now everyone can start complaining about fulfilling the 'C' requirements to get the 1000 jump wings. I see it already: "Why do I have to turn two point on an 8 way or land so many times in a 2 meter circle? They are unrelated to number of jumps" For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  3. That is true, but if the gear isn't legal and the pilot in command of the aircraft allows a skydiver to use it to "conduct a parachute operation", the pilot can definitely lose his ticket. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  4. As a pilot, you can declare an emergency and indicate you are in distress using your radio. That gives you right of way. There is no way to accomplish this in skydiving unless everyone is in two way communication (ain't gonna happen). I agree that students should be taught that unless they themselves are in distress, they should yield the right of way to tandems. The 'word play' that I think we both agree on is tandems can't assume they have the right of way just because they are less maneuverable. The TI can be rightfully pissed off on the ground if a student didn't yield the right of way, but he can't know for a fact in the air he has right of way since there is no official way for someone to declare they are under distress in a parachute. 5. Chutingstar told me on the phone I had until the end of the calendar year, which matches ParaConcepts description. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  6. But not always. The parachute could be completely maneuverable, but the pilot/student could be experiencing a medical problem that could be impossible for the TI to notice even with superhuman observational abilities. We agree completely on 'see and avoid'. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  7. I hesitate to apply Sec. 91.113 — Right-of-way rules to parachutes as they are not mentioned in any way in that section of the FAR's, although the thought that the less maneuverable parachute has right of way makes common sense. I do find fault with the statement, "The LESS maneuverable craft ALWAYS has the right of way no matter the skill of the pilot" as you are not considering a craft that is in distress which will have right of way over any other regardless of maneuverablity. Someone with a low speed mal would have right of way over the tandem, and it might be difficult for the TI to know the other person is in a low speed mal. So everybody is better off assuming they don't have the right of way because they may not be able to determine if they do (unless they are the person in the middle of a malfunction, in which case they can assume they have right of way). 8. I just sent an argus into ChutingStar. They expire at the end of the calendar year of the 4 year anniversary, so it will expire on 12/31/2012. You can jump it this season, but must have it serviced before 2013. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  9. You are missing the biggest difference - the time frame validity of the certificate. A second class is only good for 12 months. A third class is 5 years if you are under 40. A second class defnitely provides additional safety as it is more likely to catch a new medical condition faster. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  10. And if I can get him to take my bet, I'll get 10 free jump tickets For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  11. Ok - does anybody else see the humor in this? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  12. I'm not sure you understand how much you are being a victim. If you can't consider your problems to be opportunities, you will always be a victim. I would hazard a guess that the majority of the people on DZ.COM who are at least 50 have suffered a setback similiar in scope to yours. I know I have. Don't worry - nothing lasts forever. You will probably be dead in 50 years. By the way - my bet is still active if you want to take it. I bet 10 Lift Tickets you will be remarried and buying another house within 7 years. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  13. Is that for real? If so, I hereby personally apologize to the rest of the world. Please don't think all Americans are self-absorbed asses. Just most of us. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  14. Spoken like a true victim. +1 For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  15. From the sidelines, it looks like you are stuck in a groove and need a 'bump'. Antidepressants can do that. Try them for a little while (a month or so) , then get off them as soon as you can. That may be enough of a bump to get you rethinking your life. You really are better off then 98% of the people on this planet. You might realize this intellectually, but emotionally you appear to be playing the victim. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  16. Our lives (including the UPPP) sound familiar. I will warn you I had to go through the same steps you did a few years after my surgery and I 'failed' the 2nd sleep study test. Keep in mind the people who perform the test have a vested interest in 'treating' people. Even though I went through the surgery and sleep much better, I had enough 'episodes' in the sleep test where I interrupted breathing to fail. That means I must get a waiver for a 3rd class that only lasts a single year and must include a $400 Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) where I am put in a dark room for 4 hours to make sure I don't fall asleep. I also have to use the CPAP for 30 days prior to the test so the Dr will sign off that I am receiving treatment for my condition. This would really suck if the only reason I were doing this was to be a TI. Who on the planet believes someone will fall asleep while perfoming the duties of a TI? An 8 hour overnight to Hawaii - I understand, but I have never heard of anyone falling asleep in 50 seconds of freefall. It just goes to show you that the 3rd Class Medical Certificate is meant for Airmen performing their duties - not TI's. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  17. The site appears to be professionally developed. I like the gallery and the feature to hover over the picture for a description. I would suggest removing the "Here is" part, as it adds nothing. Instead of "Here is Keith on AFF-1", just say "Kieth is on AFF-1." Also, flesh out the content. Some of the pictures just have a short sentence. Just throw in some of your FAQ responses to add information, such as "Keith is using advanced state-of-the-art equipment that is included in the course". For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  18. Congratulations, and you did it right. The best time to have twins is your first children so you don't realize how hard it is to deal with two babies. It will just be your new 'normal'. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  19. I had the prescription ground into my Liquid Players and am quite happy with it. My prescription isn't very strong. I have heard anecdotal evidence the stronger the prescription the less likely you are going to be pleased with the results when using wraparound glasses. 20. +1 For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  21. You are right to question my judgement as I continue to evaluate whether I am better off jumping without an AAD or continuing to use the Argus. I can jump an entire season for the amount it would cost to replace the Argus, and I am not firmly convinced that expenditure significantly reduces my risk. The Argus is better than nothing. Do you still stand by your statement,"The manufacturer of the cutter has stated that it's not fit for its intended use."? There is nothing in the Sunpath letter that approaches that statement. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  22. This statement was made by Sunpath Products - not Chemring Energetics. There has been a lot of talk that the manufacturer deemed the product unfit and if this is your source for that statement, then I submit you are incorrect. It is not the manufacturer of the cutter making the statement, it was a container manufacturer making the statement. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  23. Could you provide a link to the manufacturer's statement? I would be very interested in reading a statement where the manufacturer knows its product is not fit for being used in a lifesaving device, but issues no recall. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  24. +1 I consider you to be a trustworthy and knowledgable contributor on DZ.com. What information do you have to support the fact the supplier had no idea it was being used in civilian jumping? Without support, it is just speculation. What do you know that refutes Chutingstar's statement in another thread: For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  25. I think you might be missing the point. She voluntarily gave the authorities the hard drive. What she is being asked to do is incriminate herself by giving the authorities the decryption key. That is not reasonable. It would be like making Al Capone tell the authorites what all the secret codes in his ledger meant. If the authorities can figure it out on their own, it would be fair game. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
