  1. I haven't read that one, but I have read his "The Wizard of Quarks: A Fantasy of Particle Physics" and found it an interesting read. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  2. If someone kicks/elbows me in the head hard enough to break my all aluminum Players into jagged pieces, I will probably be dead. I am all for mitigating risks, but the likelihood that an accident occurs that is made worse by wearing ANSI certified sunglasses is vanishingly small. The protection provided by the frame and lense far outweighs the risk. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  3. I think they control at least that much money. They just don't do a very good job of accounting for how they spent it. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  4. Why wait, take it off now. You have probably heard it before, but don't size a canopy based on 'should' or 'may'. The decision should be based on 'is', or 'am'. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  5. I don't believe it to be a misleading comparison. If you are altruistic and believe the purpose of punishment is rehabilitaion, then the measure of success is the recidivism rate. It appears that when criminals are given a life sentence and somehow dodge it via parole, they adjust their behaviour to avoid being put back behind bars. Why in the world would you want to compare them to Joe Sixpack who has never been in jail? For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  6. That was not my experience. They provided excellent customer support to me. I broke my first pair and they sent me a second free of charge. They were straight up with me. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  7. It certainly argues against toughening the parol chances for lifers. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  8. You'd think the folks at Harvard could write an ASPx page that works. Couldn't log in. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  9. Lest my message fall on deaf ears due to piss poor spelling, I changed the title of the thread. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  10. I just came back from a lunch time jump at a nearby Dropzone. I go there almost every weekday and jump instead of eating lunch. I develop software all day in front of a computer. It allows me plenty of time to hop onto DZ.COM and involve myself in many petty dramas. I tend to forget how lucky I am to fly in the beautiful blue sky while my co-workers harden their arteries eating another greasy hamburger. Life is good. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  11. 1 Ask your instructors. 2 Cut off the fingertips of your gloves For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  12. The major question in my mind is "Is the Indian Nation a sovereign state, or survivors of genocide spread around the country ignored and/or treated like 3rd class citizens?" For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  13. What about containers like Dolphins where the cutter is on the bottom of the tray? If it trapped the loop you can still manually deploy. I would say that all AAD's in use would not become unusuable, just most containers.Quote For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  14. Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  15. Good thing we're not talking about 2 year olds then; unless you were referring to the cops. After quite a number of years shooting IPSC and IDPA, not to mention 3 gun matches with police and civilians, I can tell you that you're misinformed. Let us assume that 90% of the cops are poor shooters and for some strange reason only 20% of the general population are poor shooters. You must admit I am being very generous in that assessment. That would mean there are 644,300 * .9 or 579,870 cops who can't shoot and 308,090,238 * .2 or 61,618,047 members of the general population who are lousy shots. That would mean the relationship is 61,618,047/644,300 or a factor of 106. My statement is correct. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  16. +1 For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  17. I disagree completely. No matter how bad you perceive them to be, they are trained to handle firearms and I am willing to bet that statistically speaking they are more accurate than 50% of the general population. I would much rather take my chances with someone who is not a cop. The number of poor shooters in the general population outnumbers the number of cops who are poor shooters by at least a factor of 100. I haven't seen a two year old yet who could consistently hit a target at 25 feet. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  18. Not that I approve of the skank's behaviour in any way, but from what I read, they shot the tire of the police car chasing them. I guess any time someone shoots in the general direction of a police officer, they are going to be charged with attempted murder. I imagine when they eventually get caught, that will be plead down. They also shot into the ceiling of the bank they robbed. Where they attempting to murder someone on the second floor? Before anybody thinks I am like Shah, I hope the next LEO shoots to kill in any encounter with these three pieces of shit, regardless of the size of the skank's boob or caboose. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  19. +1 it is also like saying, "Goodbye, hope to see you again on the ground in 5 minutes" For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  20. I contacted USPA and they indicated it was their intent to leave it completely up to the discretion of the instructor who is signing the application. If that -I, -I/E, -S&TA, -BOD trusts/believes you and is willing to sign without actually witnessing the skill, then USPA is ok with it. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  21. It isn't my plan to lie and see if I can get away with it. I am trying to determine the intent of the regulation so I can conform to it. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  22. I am a little confused by the SIM 3-1-B-3: Jumps to meet skill requirements must be signed by a USPA Instructor, Instructor Examiner, Safety & Training Advisor, or a member of the USPA Board of Directors. What specifically is considered a skill requirement? Do I need to have all 25 jumps within 2 meters of target center for a C license witnessed by one of the above? Does the instructor need to be on the jump that completed at least two points on an 8-way or larger skydive? It seems there is wiggle room in that the SIM requires the activities to be 'signed by' and not witnessed. Do they need to sign each jump in your logbook, or is another skydiver's signature enough? I do a lot of hop and pop accuracy jumps where I am the only fun jumper on a tandem load. Nobody sees me land inside the 1 meter hula hoop. Am I like the tree in the forest that falls without a sound because nobody witnessed me landing on target center? I get a TI to sign my logbook because they saw me leave the plane, but I doubt they saw me land target center when they are still a couple thousand feet above me. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  23. That was strictly your interpretation of the original poster's comment. I interpreted it as too many experienced skydivers think it can't happen to them and it isn't part of their possible reality. The more real the possibility of death becomes, the more likely people will take steps to avoid it. Did you ever have to watch movies in Driver's Ed in high school showing automobile fatalities? I may be giving the benefit of the doubt to the OP, and if the OP derives any entertainment out of watching people die, I agree whole heartedly with your assessment. Too many good people are dying and/or breaking themselves by swooping, and I bet every single one of them didn't think it would happen to them. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  24. I also have a little over a hundred jumps, but keep my GoPro in my equipment bag and will until 200 jumps. I don't want to be 'that skydiver' who represents themselves as having a higher skill level than they do. When I see someone with a camera, I assume they have at least 200 jumps. I've not fully understood why it isn't a BSR, as many dropzones treat it as such. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
  25. Thank goodness I am wearing a tin foil hat so none of that nasty corruption can be beamed into my skull via the super secret DZ.COM mind ray. No good dead goes unpunished. A bunch of decent people volunteer to monitor this website for little or no compensation and they are accused of some vast conspiracy. For the same reason I jump off a perfectly good diving board.
