How long did it take you to decide on a career?
kevin922 replied to SkydiveNFlorida's topic in The Bonfire
I'm a firm believer in doing something you enjoy over money.. if you can have both then awesome! I really enjoy EMS work but I have been working in computers (and really enjoy computers as well) for the past 8 years - I took a job as a part time EMT on an ambulance (which paid less than bagging groceries if I recall correctly) when I was still living in Mississippi, it was great! Able to do one love and get paid decent for it, and was able to do a second love and not worry about the money but just have fun. I don't know what your passions are, but i would strongly advise against going the "oh that profession pays well I'll do it" route. Being a doctor pays great, but I am so not about to go that route.. i hate school. -
Who has actually flown a highly loaded reserve?
kevin922 replied to gus's topic in Safety and Training
Personally I don't see the point in highly loading your reserve - can anyone explain that to me? If you are unconcious it doesn't matter if you have 5 jumps or 3000 - why would you want a screamer coming in ? Other than "oo look how small my container is" factor.. -
i'm not seeing that... anyone else?

Landing a backwards canopy isn't that rare. Here's one story, and there are tons more. Yes I know it isn't that rare with large canopies.. my incident was on a stilleto 120.. i guess i don't know what the other guy was flying but still $50.00 repack or $xxx.00 hospital bill?

http://www.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/asiapcf/southeast/07/27/offbeat.malaysian.divorce.reut/index.html KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysian (Reuters) -- Malaysian Muslim men can divorce their wives through text messages on mobile telephones, the New Straits Times daily reported on Saturday, quoting a religious adviser to the government. Hamid Othman, adviser to Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, said divorce via SMS or short messaging service was in accordance with sharia law if it was clear and unambiguous. "SMS is just another form of writing," the daily quoted Hamid as saying, following an Islamic court decision on Thursday that ruled in favor of a man who served divorce on his wife using SMS. Islamic law permits a man to divorce his wife by declaring "I divorce you" three times.

I'm kinda the same way, my canopy (hornet 135) has pretty consistent openings with my pack method. The line groups are color coded, my pack jobc onsists of me running the lines out putting them over my shoulder folding the left and right cells (nose) into the center cell pulling the tail up and over and then the normal lay on the parachute and sfold into the bag. I tried this method with another canopy (stilleto) and got the crap wacked out of me... so it must be just my canopy you can do this with :) i can pack in 8 - 10 min..

Would love to, but I dont want another spammer with my email address. How does one manage to keep ones address private? DoS doesn't involve your email, it's a large flow of traffic (i guess you could argue it could be email traffic) but that isn't the most effective DoS :-)

Uh, you had to go to the emergency room?? what did you do try and land it!?

Airport List - Go/No Go for rig carry on
kevin922 replied to hawkbit's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Spent 90 minutes in line at DIA security in January. Not bad though, they shut down the lane and used me as a training session. They also took photocopies of the cypress card and took notes. Very cool, too bad you can't video tape in the security areas :) Dulles i had some minor issues but pulled out so much documentation so quick the guy was like "oh i guess it's okay" also i interrupted him as he was trying to describe an AAD which he said I couldn't have.. it was a "does it have one of those cylnder thin..." "there is no compressed gas in the rig.." "oh okay, it's cool go on" -
Dude, she must be coming to DC, wonder what club :)

That still sounds like you got screwed.. you just bought a canopy (new to you) and only got 7 jumps on it before having to replace it? 35%, isn't that what a lot of dealers get off their canopies they sell?
