You see, that is the adolescent mind in argument. You ask a question and I answer from personal experience. You deny my personal experience and ask for other evidence. I provide evidence of like minded thought from other well known scholars. You accuse me of not being able to think for myself. I provide you with evidence from a first person point of view. You say first person point of view is not valid. Bottom line, you are seeking validation for a decision that you made which caused heartache with your parents. Ergo adolescent rebellion. IMHO That is OK with me. I do not walk in your shoes. I do not have to live with your choices. I know that a strong defense exists for a reason. You are certainly entitled to yours. And remember, I do not have to sell. I choose to share. You may choose not to accept. I travel a narrow path that not many seek. I like it that way. You haven't provided any evidence. You have simply made an unsubstantiated claim and then tried to back that up with another person’s unsubstantiated claim. Personal experience can't be tested or repeated independantly because it is unique to the person. You are not traveling a narrow path that not many seek. Christianity has many members.

NM Court: Christian Business Owners Have No Rights
beowulf replied to RonD1120's topic in Speakers Corner
Bigotry in all forms is wrong. If this couple were black and denied service would you side with the business? If not then how is that different? -
So your point is pointless. You are saying science can't do something that science says can't be done. The burden of proof is on those making the claim that god exists and to date they have not provided any evidence that can be independantly verified and tested. In fact no real evidence of any kind, as personal experience is not evidence of anything as it is extremely suspect.

Easy.... the many scientists I know and how they operate. I love science but the truth is that it will never disprove God and it is separate from faith. It is a logical fallacy to prove the nonexistence of something. The burden of proof is on those that are making the claim of existence. If no one can prove that God exists then there is no reason to believe that he in fact does exist.

How do you know this?
-
"“Whatever you ask in My name, that I will do . . . .” The disciple who abides in Jesus is the will of God, and what appears to be his free choices are actually God’s foreordained decrees. Is this mysterious? Does it appear to contradict sound logic or seem totally absurd? Yes, but what a glorious truth it is to a saint of God." (Emphasis mine) ~Oswald Chambers The reality exists in the illogical. That is the way God works. Nothing but bullshit, with no evidence to support it.
-
So you say... Where is the evidence?
-
Another thing that I find curious, is the statement that it's "the bane of my existence". I haven't felt any ill effects of my disbelief in anything supernatural. Have you? I totally question that "bane of my existence" statement. How would he know this? As far as I know we have never met in person.

Prove this. Prove that spirits exist. Prove that there is any such thing as a soul.
-
Ok so you claim Christianity has a special form of faith?? really! What do you have to back that up with?? Faith is belief with out evidence. Second birth, like a small child?? Really what do you have to back up this claim?? Transformed?? Really! What do you have to back up this claim?? Let me guess. NOTHING
-
A lot of bullshit with no basis in reality.
-
Not to me and, I do not have to prove my life to anyone. I do not sell, I share. Take or leave it. RonD1120 out. Nothing but empty claims
-
The typical response of "you just don't understand". Try coming up with real tangible evidence. Otherwise it's all just imaginary.
-
Faith is belief with out evidence and only provides imagined knowledge and doesn't give any real answers. All the perceived benefits of religion can be attained with out faith or religion.

Still squirming, eh? There is no reason for you because YOU don't have a reason. Some do. You've been give an example. You fail to realize that. Have at it, eh? It's been fun watching you guys scream and holler for something you can't have. Kinda reminds me of a kid screaming for candy that his Mamma can't give him because there's none in the house. Funny part is that you think that's legitimate and the the kid is justified in screaming and hollerin' all the time knowing full well that there is no candy even if Mamma wanted to give him some. Keep asking though....you guys can keep yourselves entertained with it. G'day. There is no reason because there is no evidence. What example?? Your claims have be flat out wrong.

Science is great, I am all for it. Still it is limited to the five avenues of perception. We are much more than science can explain. Give me the scientific explanation for meaning. Searching for meaning is one of lifes most rewarding pursuits. ... You are talking about philosophy which is a human construct and only exists in minds of humans.
-
Nah....it gives us many better ways to determine the truth about the physical world around us than what we have using just our 5 senses. That's all it can do at this point in time. The scientific method gave a better, systematic way of doing that. And we are getting better and better at it as we go along. Who knows what the future may bring? We may even find the "God" particle! There is no reason to believe there is any metaphysical or paranormal anything.
-
Logic doesn't dictate that there is any meaning to the cosmos. The human five senses are certainly not enough, that is why we have built machines to detect what our sense can't. That is why science was developed to give us the best possible way to determine the truth about the world around us. This has worked much better then anything else and is why we have the technology we have today.

Both the tooth fairy and the Christian god have the same amount of evidence to support them, so it's a fair comparison.
-
You just did. Yes asking for physical proof is reasonable. The Bible has many stories where God provided physical proof. I have never tried to convert anyone to anything.
-
Questioning the opponents morals rather then sticking to the argument is just a sign that the Christian has lost the argument. No problem there.
-
Maybe you're making a pretty good go at it in this thread. You don't understand the difference between food for thought and telling people they are wrong. Maybe you don't understand the technique of offering optional ways of thinking. But, thanks for playing. Even the college kid is putting out food for thought in some of his posts. Why did you add 'Maybe' to the quote?? I see that as being dishonest.
-
Why is it not ok to challenge what others believe? If someone claims on this forum that the Christian God exists why do thing it's wrong to challenge that claim? It in no way stops them from believing what they want to believe. It might get them to think a little more about what they believe. How is that wrong?

I question the existence of a soul. What evidence is there for it?? I think it's just something people made up.
