camera flying and x-braced canopies
skygod7777 replied to jedeisurf's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
as far as swoops go, i got pretty much the same distance out of both canopies. the flight characteristics are very silimlar. like almost the same. the main differences are the riser pressure, on the vx the rears are light, and fronts heavy. on the xaos 27 the rears are heavy and fronts lighter. they both will have really great glide (better than your fx, even thought u want a smaller one). and it seams my 85 vx packs up smaller than the 78 xaos 27 that i was jumping, both brand new. i really recomend the vx though, i'm mean, u already have a fx, why not stay with the same manufactor. but hey, jump em both. that's the only way to find out what YOU really want. that's what i did, i jumped the velocity, xaos 27, vx, crossfire 2, and many other canopies, and i came out choosing the vx (i had a fx before). later -
i have no clue. i just was told by a friend of mine, that is very good friends with brian, that swanson just got a new crossed braced airlocked canopy. i think it was called the sensei, but i don't know. i remember seeing the one that swanson had at the nationals, and i'm not sure if it is the same one, or a different one. what is the shotgun?? like just airlocked, or crossedbraced also. later

How Many Crossbraced Canopies at your DZ?
skygod7777 replied to Skydive2's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
i have jumped both canopies (vx, and xaos 27), and i liked both of the openings. the xaos opens a bit slower, like a longer snivel, but is also jumpy, it tended to be off heading of like the 30 jumps i put on it. my vx, opens great, on heading, and soft. it's not a long snivel like the xaos, but is still soft. the older vx's had opening problems. they opened very hard somethimes, and other times only kinda hard. but icarus has gotten the openings under control now. i have a brand new one, it was built in december and i also jump a camera, top mounted, later -
a friend of mine has a vengence. i have about 50 or so jumps under it. it's a 97. i liked it. it was a good canopy. the swoops were really good, and openings great. just a bitch to deflate on windy days. that was my favorite canopy until i got my fx. there are a couple at my dz. like 3. later

well, i thought the sensei was the one that he built a while ago. this may still be called the sensei, but it is a different design than the last one. i am wondering if anyone has seen the 2 in flight, and know what the differences are. either way, i'm sure it's bad ass, and i want to try it. later

hey, you could go visit the old PISA, now aerodyne systems. i know a couple people there, and i'm sure they would give ya a tour of the factory. later

hehe. me and my buddy vern came up with that kinda. it's a modified version of what *i think* rob harris said on the 2001 pond swooping national. he said like "dirt, water, dirt, go big or go home" so, after vern ate shit, like really bad (he didn't flare after a hook, and it was a bit low) so we came up with that "hook low, flare late..........dirt, tumble, dirt..........ouch" u should see the video, i wish i knew how to upload things like that. it's ugly. but he got up and walked away, and being bid dumb vern, he was just like "ouch, that hurt" later

that's cool. i'm sure hawaii is a cool place. why are u moving out there?? like work, or just because u want to. later

well, i saw it at PIA. what it is, it's like elastic about a inch and a half or 2 inches long. it really is a good idea. keeps everything neat, and in the pouch until you want it to come out (even though i'm not sure if i have ever heard of a problem). they also have like a chanel that runs between the gromets. instead of the gromets being stuck together. it makes it so if you were to loose you pull up cord while packing, it doesn't make it a pain to get the loop back up through the gromets. later

that's cool man. good to hear.

How Many Crossbraced Canopies at your DZ?
skygod7777 replied to Skydive2's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
ya, he does have a 79, i forgot about that. but he is selling it. he wants a fx. he can't handle the vx. did you see him crash at the boogie?? it was ugly, feet, head, feet, head. is about how it went. i'm not sure if he should even have a crossed braced. and steve, well, he doesn't jump much (2 this whole past season). and he won't jump his vx anymore because he got fat. i remember he was also trying to sell it, but i'm not sure if he ever did. it has a left turn built in, but i think it's his risers. later -
well, i have no clue, i don't own on. but from what i've seen, and stuff, it would seem to be pretty difficult. not a whole lot of extra room to get it under the sewing machine to replace the pile. i assum the hook is like super glued on. later

sen. rigger can supervise. later

re-packing can cause some un-nessasarry wear. the center cell gets a lot of abuse when packing, and after a couple thousand jumps, it will have to be replaced, while the other cells are just fine. i know it sound weird, but if you really want to get the most out of your canopy, re-packing it over and over, isn't the best thing to do. now the wear won't be that much now, but it is wear. later

cool looking rig man. i like it. later
