i would have to say a T-6. a fighter trainer from like the 1940's later
-
hearing that, maybe jeff mullins should consider taking out his. under his 65 xaos, granted had 30 pounds of lead on, but he came across the pond going 75 at rantoul, so i'm sure his dive was similar to dereks speed. i wonder if jeff has a cypres anyway though. later
-
well, i don't think i have. but as said above derek, or hooknswoop, has. under his vx 60 loaded at 3 to 1 (or something like that, maybe 3.1) it would be too much. i don't think i do under my 85 since i've done 720's and 1 1080 (i usally will do a 270 or a 360) hook and haven't had my cypress fire

the richmond boggie. like 98 or something like that. later
-
cool video man. i like it later
-
well, i am going off of what i have heard. i have never seen one fired. and i have seen some people pull somewhat low with them (ie like around 2000 letting go of pilot chute, where your getting were you wouldnt' want to be with a fxc 12000) and again, i am not certain of the differences of sensing, but i can only assume there is a difference. i am going to send a e-mail to them about this tommorow, and see what i get back. later
-
well, i don't know about this. i have never heard them being nearly as un-accurate as the fxc 12000. and they can't be too similar. the fxc 12000 is mechanical, and the astra is all electric (battery). and it is proven that a mechanical system is less reliable (or accurate) than a electric system. you right, i really don't think the astra is any comparison to a cypress, i would prefere a cypress any day over a astra. i just really would prefure something that would be checked every 4 years, compared to an astra, you never have to send it back to get checked. i didn't know the astra's had to be chamber checked. i know the fxc 12000 does, but i didn't know the astra was. later

to tell ya the truth, i really don't know. i haven't ever jumped with on, or have every seen one jumped by someone at me dz that i would be able to ask. sorry later

i don't have a reflex now, but i did. i think the catapult idea is great. i totally recomend it. most don't like it, but i personally do. it is just a extra saftey precation. later

it's that stupid belly crap, ya know, u have to do it when your a student, i like to call it "student flying" hahaha later
-
i think your thinking of a fxc 12000. the astra didn't come out until the mid 90's. and they are pretty acurrate. the fxc 12000 isn't. i think you may be confused. later
-
well, how ever many ft/sec 78 mph is the comparison. r u talking about a cypress, or a astra. but i haven't seen either one go off prematurely. so i couldn't tell ya later

here it is: http://www.pia.com/fxc/ later

rw: 115 freefly: 160, 165 later

well i will say i like the people who don't like to pack their own, that means i'll make more money
-
well i haven't found anything wrong with them other than if you forget to turn it off at the end of the day, it wears out the battery really quickly. and i heard from someone at PIA, that FXC had changed the place of the on/off switch. like the same place as a cypress window is. but i don't know this for a fact, i didn't ever go over to the booth to find out. maybe someone that did will clear this up. later
-
well hell yes. later

i would get the 210. you have to figure, with 20 pounds of gear. your 236 exit weight. that would give you 1.1 wing loading. which is pretty good to start with for a couple hundred jumps. a 190 would put you at ~1.25, and that is a bit much for 30 jumps. but, ask you instuctors, they will know the best. we have no clue how you fly a canopy. for all we know you could handle a 190, but we don't. so take every answer here with a grain of salt, because we really don't know you capabilities. later

Poll for CROSS BRACED PILOTS...which canopy is better?
skygod7777 replied to listo's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
well. i love my vx. opening, flight everything. the old vx's opened bad, pretty hard. but not the new ones. heavey front riser pressure, light rears. i like the xaos 27. it has the same flight characteristics as a vx, has light front riser pressure, but heave rear. velocity. i liked a lot. good canopy all around. light front riser, and i can't remember how the rears were. fx. i liked this canopy a lot too. i had one that opened really good. front was light and rear was find also. and let me say i'm saying light, and it really is much heavier than a stilleto, or about any other non-crossbraced canopy. i haven't jumped the xaos 21, but i have heard it's like fx, with a bit longer snivil. later -
sending good vibes for viking and his even more for his grandmother to come out of this fine. later

hehe, this reminds me of me on my vx that i just got. i tend to do the same thing, like the first jump a nice easy 180, then the second on a 270 or 360. well on my vx. i did just a little 90 on the first jump, then on the second jump did a big phat 720 . it was fun. then on this vx 74 that i jump a couple of days later, first jump a 270. and on both, i was rear risering them on the second jump. some tell me i'm kinda dumb, but hey, if i can do it, screw em . it's only me that i'll be fucking up later
-
ok, i think i'm still a bit confused. i think you are kinda saying how many jumps on a canopy before downsizing to a crossed braces?? well it really does depend on the person. if you are jumping a stilleto, and hooking it, maxing it out, consistantly, then your ready for the next step it may take less jumps for some, and more for others. The usual is about 1000 jumps or so. most will have the canopy figured out by then, and be ready to handle a crossed braced. later
-
i'm a bit confused?? do you mean about how high?? well if that is it, then i believe i was doing 360's from about 800 or 900 feet. they were hook/carve kind of hook. i was level with the horizon, but it wasn't a snap. 270's about the same, i just sped up the 360's a bit more than a 270 if you understand what i mean. later
-
well, i haven't seen you fly a canopy. but it does sound like you went down pretty quickly to a stilleto, then stayed with that to learn it 450 jumps. and i guess if you knew the canopy well enough, then you downsized. it sounds like you'll live just don't hook in. always look for trafic 1000 feet below, and ahead of were you going to be, because you'll be there real quickly. make sure you plan early, and don't cut anyone off. later
