You landed safely, right? You did manage to pull, right? Don't forget that one of the things the instructors are there to do is pull for you if you don't. It's not terribly uncommon on a first jump. It sounds like you passed level one and are cleared to go on to level two. Why wouldn't you go on? There was a jumper a while back that shared her adventures from tandem, through AFF to licensed jumper in cartoon form as a duck. The good, the bad, the funny, the triumphs and setbacks. Worth a look. http://tailotherat.blogspot.com/2011/08/sky-diving-duck-ii-chicken-of-sky.html

Just out of curiosity, what sort of 'service centers' are you meaning? The dealers are currently the main 'service centers', and independent shops are starting to take them in. The 'funny' part about it is how little service an electric vehicle needs. The battery isn't really 'serviceable', just 'replaceable.' The electronics are modular, and also pretty much just 'replaceable parts'. You're not going to find some kid with a soldering iron repairing control circuitry. Maybe some parts replacement in the environmental systems, stuff like the blower fan and the servos that move the mixing doors for the heat & A/C. Maybe the A/C itself. Other than that, the only thing that wears out is brakes & tires. No oil changes, no coolant flushes, no leaking intake or cam cover gaskets. A lot of routine work on an internal combustion engined car simply won't be needed.

Charges filed: https://coloradosun.com/2021/05/19/austin-hopp-daria-jalali-assault-charges-karen-garner/?utm_source=The+Colorado+Sun+Newsletters&utm_campaign=9eca9d2bf8-SUNRISER_2021-05-20&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_61e0bd63dc-9eca9d2bf8-66910994&mc_cid=9eca9d2bf8&mc_eid=d06540572c Funny how fast the charges came once the video was made public. The fact that the cops knew about it for over a year, and did nothing about it... Yeah. Right.

The 'funny' part about that is the fact that the chances of someone winning the lottery is in the same neighborhood as the chances of having a serious reaction to the vaccine.

Bullet holes (stickers, not real ones). "High Fall Risk" warning sticker. Team stickers (I have SDC Rhythm and SDMW Next). Of course, there's the standard equipment manufacturer stickers, but I generally prefer not to be a 'walking advertisement' without getting paid, so I only have a couple of those.

Climate update - new start to hurricane season
wolfriverjoe replied to billvon's topic in Speakers Corner
Oh piffle. Just because it's the seventh year in a row that a 'named storm' has formed before the 'official' start to hurricane season. That doesn't mean anything. -
Different kind of 'edger'.

Oh please, Professor. They turned a blind eye to Trump's traitorous behavior with Russia, while vilifying Clinton for 'selling uranium'. They turned a blind eye to Trump's (and the rest of the Rs) giving huge tax cuts to the super rich, while vilifying the idea of giving money to the 'ordinary folks' struggling to pay the bills. They ignored Trump's corrupt behaviors (and there were a LOT of them) while vilifying Clinton for her use of a personal e-mail account (which Trump's spawn did the entire time he was in office). They turned a blind eye to Trump's denigration and disrespect to the military ('suckers and losers') while trying to pretend Clinton was responsible for the deaths in Benghazi. And, last but not least, they attempted to overturn the legitimate results of an election, all the while claiming 'voter fraud'. Trumpism. Hypocrisy. Someone can be a hypocrite without being a Trumpette. But you can't be a Trumpette without being a hypocrite.

When Can I Do That Thing I Want To Do?
wolfriverjoe replied to BMAC615's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
So this is your video, attempting to give them guidance as to how they should progress. And you're looking for feedback/reviews on it. Any particular reason you didn't say that in the first place? -
Not really. The anti-abortion crowd will always claim that 'life begins at conception.' If the 'medical profession' makes a declaration or definition of a later point, the anti-crowd will ignore it and continue on their crusade. They'll ignore the doctors and continue to pretend the Bible prohibits it. Also, as Bill pointed out, there are virtually no pro choice folks who pretend that a fetus or embryo isn't 'alive'. They just maintain that it should be the choice of the mother, not the government if she should carry that fetus to term. I agree with the idea that the mother should have complete choice over a non-viable fetus. The 22-25 weeks that Bill mentioned (he said "months", I'm guessing he meant "weeks") is a good place to start. The 'funny' part is that in historical times, the time when a fetus became a 'person' was the 'quickening', when movement began to be detectable. That was the point when a pregnant woman could no longer be executed, when another person harming the fetus became a crime, that sort of thing. That 'quickening' is generally at... 22-25 weeks. When modern science has the ability to keep it alive outside the womb.

Well, Texas Governor Abbot banned mask madates. No public entity may enact a mask requirement. NPR story: https://www.npr.org/2021/05/18/997990835/no-masks-are-required-at-most-texas-state-facilities-anymore The very next day, he signs a law that prohibits abortions as soon as a 'heartbeat'* can be detected. Funny how quickly the importance of Texans deciding their best health practices disappeared. The 'heartbeat' is actually the electrical impulses in the cells that aren't yet formed into a heart. So there's no actual heart to beat. This happens around 6 weeks. Most women don't even realize that they are pregnant that early. Oops. Edit to ad link to NPR story on abortion bill: https://www.npr.org/2021/05/19/998237349/the-governor-of-texas-has-signed-a-law-that-bans-abortion-as-early-as-6-weeks

How is this physically possible?
wolfriverjoe replied to Flyer3299024's question in Questions and Answers
They both hang on really tight. They haven't accelerated enough for opening shock to be terribly strong. I've never seen a BASE Mr Bill before, but I'm not surprised. It went quite well. That's not always the case. -
By most measures, the rest of the world is less embarrassed by the behavior of our leadership than they were a year ago too.
-
Other people are either too stupid to see a person with a speech impediment instead of cognitive issues or they are so invested in their hatred that they choose to mock someone who sometimes has difficulties speaking.

Don't forget about the story that the New York State Attorney General has joined forces with the Manhattan DA in a criminal investigation of Trump and his family. He's sure just 'disappeared'.
-
Seriously? Do you think the reason the Republicans in the House conducted multiple lengthy investigations of Clinton was to 'uncover what happened'? You aren't that naive. Do you remember the actions the US took in Somalia back in the early 90s? The ones that ended with several helicopters being shot down and a bunch of Udeaths? (Black Hawk Down) Far more deaths than in Benghazi. Do you remember the fallout from the investigation of that? Do you remember who ended up resigning? The Benghazi 'investigation', and the garbage around the e-mails (funny how Trump's spawn did the exact same thing, but no investigation) were blatant attempts to undermine her viability as a candidate. And they succeeded rather well.

Post trump Legal Actions, Including his Enablers
wolfriverjoe replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, during the recount of the Wisconsin election, the Trump supporters were absolute idiots. They broke the rules, objected to trivial things and generally made a mockery of the process. https://apnews.com/article/election-2020-joe-biden-donald-trump-wisconsin-elections-dcb7da95578fc7289122c6d372575a9b I'm not terribly surprised that the crap in Arizona was pretty much the same. -
They didn't want the American public to know the truth about that either.

Who suggested you start sliding your landings? An instructor? I somewhat doubt that. Sliding is actually a pretty advanced technique. Its usually used when the forward speed is faster than can be run out. Tandems often slide in because they can't run and a PLF would end up with the pair rolling on top of each other. You need to have your flare dialed in pretty well. You need to stop your descent at just the right height, get your feet down gently and keep adding toggle to the flare to slowly add weight as you lose speed. Any mistake will be painful. Any irregularity in the ground (holes, ruts, bumps) can also be a problem (see below). If your ankles aren't in good enough shape to handle the impact of landing, or the stress of running one out, then learn to PLF really well. You can go from 'feet touching' to 'rolling onto your hips' with very little stress on your ankles. I'll slide in sometimes, usually when the wind is really low. Jumps early in the day are prime candidates. The morning dew on the grass also helps the sliding. But watching the ground is vital. I was coming in, planning on sliding, and just as I was about to touch, saw that there was a pretty deep tire rut in the grass ahead (maybe 6"deep). If I had slid into that I likely would have broken something. So I PLF'd it. A couple grass stains and a bit damp from the dew, but that was it.

It was down for quite a while on Friday, during the daytime in the US. I fully understand that you are in a different time zone from the US, and maybe the host is too (don't know on that). I also understand that for either you or them to monitor the status of the site every minute of every day isn't realistic. Is there any way for a 'normal schmoe', or maybe a mod to alert the host that the server needs to be restarted? I'd certainly be willing to shoot off a quick e-mail to let them know there's a problem if it's something that would get the site up sooner.

Well, people DO blame Trump for the response to the pandemic. Pretending it wasn't a problem. Muzziling scientists and the CDC. Tying essential medical supply deliveries to the 'loyalty' of a state's governor. Worrying more about the stock market than the lives of citizens. You know, the "it will all go away, like a miracle" crap. The "slow down the testing" garbage. The 'we should look into bleach and ultraviolet light' shit. Of course, Trumpettes ignore that part. And claim that the rest of us are 'blaming Trump for the pandemic'.
-
Not seeing a cause. Gotta love the last line. There weren't going to be any shortages there because they don't get their gas from that pipeline. People are absolute fucking idiots.

Were you a US resident at the time? Honest question, not playing 'gotcha'. My understanding is that US residents at a USPA DZ need a USPA license. Non-residents (even US citizens) can use a license from the country of residence. Some DZs require some sort of USPA membership (temporary is usually fine), but that's to get the 3rd party insurance coverage more than anything else. I could be wrong on that, and I welcome correction if so. Again, I thought this was covered in the SIM, but looked and couldn't find anything on it.
