  1. Great. Let me know when (and if) we ever reach that point. As of a few years ago, having a 'white sounding' name gave a person a significant better chance of getting an interview than a person with a 'black sounding' name. https://www.vox.com/identities/2017/9/18/16307782/study-racism-jobs
  2. And this was covered a while back (no, I'm not going back through 8 pages to find it). The street & sidewalk where the protesters were IS private property. But the two idiots with guns did NOT have control of that property, nor the authority to order the protesters off of it.
  3. That's funny. A 'bad' flu year might see 50k deaths. Covid killed 10 times that. But the flu kills "FAR more". The flu vaccine has been around for a long, long time. There are widespread media campaigns about how important it is to get it. Along with the importance of washing hands, covering coughs & sneezes, all of that. I would think a 'health care professional' would know those things. Bill's right.
  4. Carhart work pants. I know TIs that use them almost all the time. They slide in on their butts. The pants hold up well.
  5. Hi Jerry, Very true about carrying and producing the passport. However, the very simple vax cards would be equally simple to forge. The idiots have been totally resistant to the idea of a database, or any sort of verifiable vax certification. Some of them have gone so far as to prohibit even asking for it. Without something reliable, I don't expect anyone to let US citizens in any foreign country. And I don't blame them.
  6. No idea. I have no allergies to anything (thankfully), so I don't pay a whole lot of attention to what sort of allergies are problematic for what stuff. She may (or may not) have other allergies that are preventing her from getting the Covid vaccine. Or she could just be wrong. I'll ask.
  7. Funny how getting a solid and wel deserved reputation for 'throwing people under the bus' and skipping out on bills would make it hard to hire competent help.
  8. What about the people who, for various reasons, cannotget vaccinated? One of my mom's caregivers is allergic to chicken eggs (oddly enough, she can eat duck eggs, but that's how allergies go). She cannot get vaccinated. She's one of the people depending on 'herd immunity' to stop the spread and allow her to resume normal life.
  9. This is actually pretty extrodinary. When you posted about New York suspending it, saying 'what a shame', my response was going to be something like - Yeah, it's a damned shame they only suspended it instead of revoking it. Then I read deeper and realized that Giuliani has yet to have a disciplinary hearing. He's only had the Bar equivalent of a preliminary hearing. Yet his behavior was so egregious, so blatant, so stupid that they suspended his license immediately. He's arguing that he's being punished without a 'fair trial', which has some merit. The court has said the behavior is such that he represents a danger to the public and so they took away his license. It's not super hard to get a lawyer disbarred for cause, if the cause is sufficient. But the process is pretty long and involved. And as I understand, the lawyer keeps his license until the proceedings are done. Giuliani has done enough, and blatanly enough that he doesn't get to do that.
  10. An interesting point made in a different thread: Posted be Georgia Don. Regardless of what the boss or owner may or may not be willing to do, if the fool has a felony conviction, they can't get a professional license.
  11. Many people have been calling the 'stolen election' claims the "Big Lie". And the morons just eat it up.
  12. Yup. She did amazing work. That's why I was going to suggest her. You might ask around the motorcycle shops local to you. Some places do airbrushed helmets, some do stuff like tanks & fairings. If they do helmets themselves, they should know someone.
  13. Yes. There are a fair amount of folks out there that have custom painted helmets. A good friend had a local tattoo artist do his helmet with an eagle motif. Edit: Had Marissa at Compass & Crow mentioned, and a link to her FB page... That announced her retirement. Oops.
  14. It played just fine for me. But I'm on FB anyway. That may help. Very impressive. Both the performance and the production values (very nice video compilation). Does he do "God Save The Queen"?
  15. Well, my understanding (and as always, I could be wrong and welcome correction) is that minimum deployment for tandems is 5500. Minimum exit altitude isn't actually specified. I know of places where the TI will get out down to about 7500. Get out, get stable, toss the drogue, hold for a second or two then pull the drogue release. Oxygen rules are 91.32. Crew has to use it above 14k. Passengers have to have it provided (no rule about using it) above 15k. The only jump planes I've seen with it onboard are those going to 18k, usually for record attempts. Between the attempt flights, the tank is pulled from the plane (5 min or less to install it or pull it). And as far as aborting the flight, at what point does it stop being 'uncomfortable' and start being an 'emergency'? I've been on jumps where there's a go around right before jump run. Then another. I've gotten the 'tingly fingertips' and spots in my vision. I knew full well what was happening, stopped doing any unnecessary movements and hoped we'd get out soon. I've never stayed on the plane, but I've been close once or twice.
  16. Wow. First, convicted felons SHOULDN'T own guns. The fact that they do is a strong argument for stronger gun laws. Not sure how the 'liberal Democrats' have anything to do with people choosing to violate gun laws. The Republicans are engaged in a very clear and so far effective campaign to limit voting. They're making it a lot harder for a lot of people to vote. Funny that those new laws are primarily aimed at poorer people. Minorities. City dwellers. And the Supreme Court has upheld the Arizona law. The idea that an employer would find a conviction for the Jan 6th insurrection attempt to be a "plus" is abhorrent. I don't doubt that there are people in the South who support insurrectionists. They also support losers. Funny how all the Trump supporters that 'backed the blue' and screamed 'blue lives matter' were the same ones attacking the cops.
  17. Hi Jerry, "Making sense" in this case means understanding what happened and why. The "what" is that a racist, corrupt 'wannabe dictator' conned a large segment of the public into supporting his shit. The "why" is a lot more complex. But a good place to start is early 30s Germany. Take a large group of people who used to be in power and are seeing that power slip away. Give them someone to hate. Convince them that they can take all of that power back. Voila. Trump and MAGA.
  18. Ok, I've read through the whole thing. I don't agree with some of the things said, but that's ok. Not going into specifics about that. My $0.02 (worth about that much): You're being offered a full ride scholarship at a major college. TAKE IT!!!!! The offer includes the idea that you don't jump for a few years (That's the other Golden Rule - The one who has the gold makes the rules) So what? The sky will be there. You likely wouldn't be able to jump enough to stay super current and do well in school. Purdue is close enough to Chicago that you could go play in the tunnel from time to time. Once you graduate and get a good job (with virtually no debt), you will be set. Billvon's post illustrates that well.
  19. I would think this is a question for your (or 'their doctor' if you're asking for someone else). Will the doctor ok the person going up to 10,000 ft? How about 14,000? I would think that the severity of the emphysema would be the critical factor. Mild to moderate should be doable. Severe not so much. If oxygen is required on the ground, I would think it wouldn't work. Also, the DZ where you go would be a factor. If you go to a DZ that runs a Cessna 182, you'll only be going to 10k. It's entirely possible that you'd be the only tandem student on the plane, so if you start to experience issues on the way up, you could either get out lower than 10k or descend immediately. At a bigger DZ, with a bigger plane, that might not be an option. The DZO and pilot are far less likely to abort the flight if there are 10 or 15 other jumpers on board. Not that they wouldn't just that it would be less likely.
  20. The Associated Press took some numbers from the CDC and made some rather unsurprising conclusions... Vaccines work. https://www.pbs.org/newshour/health/nearly-all-covid-deaths-in-us-are-now-among-unvaccinated Of the 853000 people hospitalized with Covid, less than 1200 of those people had been vaccinated. Of the 18000 dead, 150 were fully vaccinated Both of those numbers are not quite valid. Not every state is separating 'breakthrough' cases and deaths. So both the 1200 and 150 are going to be a bit low. But even if they are 2/3 low (missing a third of the vaccinated cases & deaths), that's still 1800 and 225. Still less than one half of a percent of the hospitalizations and a bit over one percent of the deaths. Stupidity has consequences.
  21. 22 1/2 years. Prosecutor wanted 30, Defense wanted time served and probation. I guess there won't be any riots this time. Link to NPR story: https://www.npr.org/sections/trial-over-killing-of-george-floyd/2021/06/25/1009524284/derek-chauvin-sentencing-george-floyd-murder Chauvin's mom spoke, claiming he's not an 'aggressive, heartless and uncaring person.' I guess she didn't see the video. She also expressed concern that she might not live to see him released from prison. However, she can go visit him. Floyd's family don't have that, thanks to her son.
  22. The "Trump Train" idiots who harrassed the Biden bus are facing a civil lawsuit. Using the laws that were put in place to try to keep the KKK from harassing and intimidating voters. Fitting. Included in the suit is the local sheriff, who failed to respond to calls from the bus. Not terribly surprising is the fact that many named in the suit were also at the insurrection attempt at the Capitol on Jan 6. Nor is it surprising that they were able to identify the fools because they posted about it on social media. https://www.cnn.com/2021/06/24/politics/trump-train-lawsuit-biden-campaign-workers/index.html
  23. It's disgusting that pandering to the morons has become SOP for them. It's sad that it's worked as well as it has.
  24. Hi Jerry, The ones that refuse to answer are likely smart enough to understand that the vaccine is the best way to stay safe. Smart enough to understand that it's been well tested, that it's safe and effective. Also smart enough to understand that the Trump supporters they need to vote for them are idiots. Morons who are opposed to the vaccine. Idiots who would be less likely to vote for them if the idiots knew they had 'gone over' to science.
