Between the outrage and "rah rah" cheerleading, the public supported going in, nevermind there was never a long term plan to 'win'. After it dragged on for a while, everyone got tired. So Trump (make sure you understand that the whole shitshow falls on Trump, not Biden) made a deal to give Afghanistan back to the Taliban. Including having a whole lot of Taliban prisoners released, over the objection of the Afghan government. In fact, the entire plan was negotiated with the Taliban without ANY consultation with the Afghans. And Trump refused to have a transition team work with the incoming Biden administration, so the new folks came in blind (not only about Afghanistan). So in essence, we gave up. We quit. We walked away. Again. Leaving the people who aided & supported us to whatever fate the incoming butchers choose for them. Again. There is a lot of talk about speeding up the process for Afghan refugees to come to the US. My $0.02 (maybe worth that much, maybe not): It depends on what the use would be. For a 'true' turn rig, as similar as possible or identical would be best. That's for someone who's going to be jumping so much that they'll be swapping back and forth all the time, for essentially the same jump. An active camera flyer is the best example I can think of. Land, dump rig #1 with the packer, toss the data cards to the video editor, stuff the other cards into the cameras, grab rig #2 and off you go. If it's someone who wants a 'sporty' canopy some of the time, but not all of the time, then having different setups may be worth looking into. Swoopers often have dedicated 'comp' rigs and 'fun jump' rigs. So do CRW guys. In those cases, having a rather different canopy in different rigs has to be 'managed'. Don't ever get them confused. Different color rigs, different color canopies, other things to make it hard to mix them up would be important. Just having it as a 'spare' rig really isn't as good of an idea as it may seem. You'll have your shiny new rig to play with, so it won't get much use. Keeping it in date, and rarely jumping it gets old. If you aren't in a position to actually need a second rig on a fairly regular basis, you'd be better off selling it. Use the money to pay a packer. I've seen some very good ones pack in time to make short calls. Impressive to watch. Again, my $0.02.

From what I'm seeing, the death total yesterday included the cumulative totals from over the weekend (both days had zero reported deaths). Wisconsin is doing something similar, where weekend numbers aren't reported and then are lumped into Monday data. That's why the 7 day averages are considered a better metric. Florida 7 day average deaths: July 7 - 15. Yesterday - 170. More than a ten-fold increase in a bit over a month. Seven day average new cases: June 28th - 1053. Yesterday - 56036. Fifty times.

Very true. While the numbers vary, depending on who you listen to and which variant, somewhere in the 80% range will be adequate. I have a very hard time finding sympathy for people who deliberately ignore science, reality and reason. If it only affected them, it would be much more of a 'it's your choice, do what you want but don't bitch about the consequences' thing. Smoking & diet, riding a motorcycle without a helmet or driving without a seatbelt, swooping, all of that. Not the choice I would make (Disclaimer: I used to smoke and would sometimes ride bare-headed, but not anymore), but those choices don't put me at any significant extra risk. However, this is different. Covid is spiking. The more people that catch and can transmit it, the more risk I'm at, even vaccinated. CDC is now recommending masks for everyone in areas of 'significant' or 'high' levels of transmission. The 'leaders' who are basically aiding and abetting the spread of this are shitheads. I hope both DeSantis & Abbot catch it and die. For real. When Trump caught it, I was cheering for the virus. It turns out he was a lot closer to death than anyone admitted at the time. I'm not super surprised at that because the White House has some pretty serious health care capabilities. Better than some rural hospitals. Putting the Orange Idiot into Walter Reed was a sign that he was seriously sick. My sympathy for the ones who are dying after refusing the vaccine is pretty much zero. I won't say the last year and a half has destroyed my faith in humanity, mainly because it was pretty non-existent to begin with. But the last little shreds are gone.
