  1. Does the new format allow a thread to 'catch fire'? If it does, the term 'troll' may need to be changed to 'arsonist'.
  2. I would call it 'somewhat less', not 'much less'. The prop & wings lose thrust & lift, along with the engine producing less power. Why else would skydivers be warned about how their canopy will fly at higher altitude DZs?
  3. Not in the near future. I think the technical issues will be secondary to the legal issues. The liablilty issues for self-piloted aircraft carrying passengers is the big one. I can't see the companies that will be making the systems that fly the planes certifying them for passenger capability for a while. I know that a plane crash can easily kill folks on the ground, but a 'good' crash with passeners on board is virtually guaranteed to kill someone. The redundancies and testing/certifying protocols that would have to be in place before the FAA would allow passengers on board would make the costs really high. Not 'never', but not soon. I think we'll see autonomous cars quite a while before autonomous passenger carrying airplanes.
  4. ^This. "An abundance of caution". As we learn more (we're still in the learning process), we have adjusted protocols to stay reasonably safe. On the 'kinda funny' side, this has been the mildest flu season on record. The precautions we are taking to prevent the spread of Covid are equally effective against influenza. I saw a stat where child deaths are usually in the 'mid-hundreds' by now. There have been less than 50. A quick search found this from back in January: https://www.today.com/health/flu-season-2020-2021-flu-activity-historic-lows-mask-wearing-t207131
  5. The "Potshots" at Pence, Trump and the rest of the Rs were attacks on their ACTIONS. Their BEHAVIORS. I repeatedly called Trump the "Mango Mussolini" becuase anyone with any understanding of history could see his blatant attempts at formenting a dictatorship, empowered by the "MAGA morons." It culminated in his incitement of an attempt to overthrow the government and reject the election. Please point out what Harris has done that merits the 'Heiress' nametag.
  6. This is a couple days old, but I haven't seen it here. There was a letter released via the e-mail account of Gaetz's chief of staff, Jillian Wyant. Also put out on Twitter, via Gaetz's own account. It claimed to be from the "Women of Matt Gaetz's office". It basically said that Gaetz is an upstanding, moral guy and couldn't have possibly committed the crimes he's accused of. However, it had one minor ommission. One little thing missing. ANY signatures from ANY of these women. Even Wyant, the one who purportedly sent it. Anyone else remember "Welcome Back Kotter" and the running gag of 'excuse notes' from Epstein's mom? Edit to add link: https://www.huffpost.com/entry/matt-gaetz-staff-unsigned-letter_n_606f53f0c5b6fc989f5a4db3
  7. I'm guessing a 'live aboard' dive boat. A friend is going to the Bahamas next week for that.
  8. Shaken not stirred (James Bond) Stir it, don't shake it. Shaking bruises the gin (Auntie Mame)
  9. Florida's Governor held a 'round table' discussion about measures to address the pandemic. About how shutdowns don't work and masks aren't effective. One of the 'world renowned' doctors was a radiologist, not an epidemiologist. The video ended up on YouTube, linked through a TV station's news site. Due to the misinformation in it, YouTube removed it. So, of course, DeSantis is now whining about "another blatant example of Big Tech attempting to silence those who disagree with their woke corporate agenda." https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/youtube-pulls-florida-governor-s-video-says-his-panel-spread-n1263635?cid=sm_npd_ms_fb_lw&fbclid=IwAR3COJhV8ujdt8CTVWzmJVhaEcZcRUyJVhvm34V19c2dIan24L69XsHjeks
  10. Even though they are mounted to the fuselage, the exhaust pipes come directly out of the cowl, very similar to the wing mounted ones. I don't think the APUs mounted inside the fuselages have any sort of emissions controls on them. It's not required... Yet.
  11. Well, to be fair, Ivanka, Eric & Don Jr weren't exactly 'elected to public office'. However, their behavior is a lot more 'criminal'. Hunter Biden may have used his name (and his dad) to get positions he wouldn't have otherwise. Maybe somewhat unethical. But a far, far, faaaaaaaaar cry from, say, pushing arms deals through to make a 'foreign entity' happy.
  12. -ling Bros. Good for you. My life doesn't permit me to have a cat or a dog. So I go up to Safe Haven a couple times a week, hang out with the cats and get my fix.
  13. In the Hat. And a blatant plug for a shelter I support: https://www.safehavenpet.org/ FB page, scroll down to see the kittens: https://www.facebook.com/safehavengb/
  14. Not sure what you mean. The cops didn't see an "army lieutenant". They saw a Black man. The Lieutenant was afraid of being shot by the cops. The cops themselves agreed that he 'should be afraid'. Not sure how the hate speech has anything to do with it, unless the cops subscribe to the idea that Black men are inherently dangerous (which they seem to do). Not sure how 'carrying guns everywhere' has anything to do with it. Military personnel are generally very limited in possessing firearms. Especially while on duty or on base. The cops should know this. They should also know that having a dealer's advertising 'paper plate' on the bumper and a temp tag inside the window constitutes legal 'display of registration'. Maybe that's why one of the cops was fired.
  15. It's not totally new. But it's gotten worse in the past 15-20 years. It's not as bad as, say, right before the Civil War. But it's a lot worse that, say, the 50s or 60s. I've heard an interesting idea on why that is. In the 50s, many people who were in positions of power, particularly in government, were WW2 veterans. They had personal experience in working with all sorts of different people. People they may not have agreed with, may not have even liked. But they had a shared goal. And worked together to achieve that goal. In government, while there was still a lot of disagreement, many (not all) of the leaders continued with that overall philosophy. In the years since, the WW2 vets have died off, but have been replaced in part with vets from the Korean & Viet Nam wars. John McCain was an excellent example of this. He was willing to listen to, work with, and help out people who were his adversaries. They were 'opponents', not 'enemies'. McCain had personal experience with real enemies. We no longer have a significant number of veterans with actual 'wartime' experience. Tammy Duckworth is the only one that comes to mind. And, while she's gone after the Trumpettes pretty hard, she's going after those who treat her as the enemy. Not those who just disagree with her.
  16. Funny how he didn't seem to mind the "My Pillow" guy or Goya Foods 'sticking their nose' in.
  17. Maybe because he didn't do anything wrong? To your point, why hasn't he been charged with anything? Trump was in office, Barr was the AG. They could easily have conducted an investigation into Hunter, and issued charges for any crimes... They could PROVE. Kinda like the idea of 'lock her up'. Why didn't Hilary face any charges? Trump, Sessions and later Barr had ample time to conduct investigations. Of course, all the idiots & fools think that the "Deep State" has been protecting Hunter Biden, HRC & even Obama. That there's ample evidence of those people 'committing crimes'.
  18. True. Apparently he went completely off script, rambled nearly incoherently, attacked anyone and everyone who he thinks is 'against him', repeated the claims that he won the election, and on and on. You know, the same shit he always does. And the R donors are not super happy about it.
  19. Did Trump look in a mirror?
  20. Why is it 'bold'? I would think it very hard, if not impossible to meet the firing parameters for a CYPRES in a car.
  21. No. This is not true. There have been a few. As I noted above, Michigan has seen 246 infections and 3 deaths in people who were fully vaccinated and through the waiting period. There have been 1.8 million people vaccinated. So the deaths are VERY low. But not zero. Not 'nobody.' https://www.bridgemi.com/michigan-health-watch/246-infected-3-dead-covid-19-michigan-despite-being-vaccinated
  22. Not quite 100%. But damned close. Reports I've seen include 3 in Michigan (246 got sick) and 3 in Oregon (168 got sick). Out of something approaching 200 million vaccinated. I'm good with those odds. But I'll agree with continuing 'preventative behaviors', as I noted in my previous post. Not for me, for those around me, Some people care about others. Some don't give a shit about anyone but themselves. That has been abundantly clear for some time now.
  23. Bingo. I'm scheduled to get stabbed on Sunday. Apparently going to be the J&J, so only the one time. Allow the two weeks or so for my immune system to build up the immunity. And even then, still take precautions. I have an 83 year old mom, who has a ton of health issues. I do a lot to take care of her. For reasons she won't go into, she doesn't want to get vaccinated. I disagree and have tried to convince her otherwise, but she has her mind made up. So, even after I'm reasonably safe, I'm going to keep taking precautions. At least until the numbers drop significantly. Wisconsin topped 1k new infections yesterday. 7 day average is above 700. We're a long way from done with this. On the plus side, vaccines are going very well. New places opening up, appointment availability is way up. We have a good chance of beating this, but we're not there yet.
  24. How am I attempting to 'shame' you? The White Privilege I'm talking about isn't being applied to you. It's you giving it to Chauvin. You originally claimed Floyd died of an OD (later recanted). You've claimed that the autopsy done by the family is biased. You claimed in the OP that Chauvin won't get a fair trial. I've repeatedly asked what you mean by that. I have yet to see a specific response. Just vague assertions that the city isn't ready for the aftermath of the verdict, that there are 'forces' in play, that the outcome is already determined. You've said you don't want to believe that Chauvin deliberately killed Floyd. You said that Chauvin 'could have saved' Floyd. As was pointed out, that's sort of true. He could have 'saved' him by not murdering him. All of those claims point to the idea that you don't want to see Chauvin convicted. The idea that Chauvin should be presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law is a principle our justice system is founded on. The idea that white cops should be able to get away with murdering black people is not.
  25. Just figuring that out?
