When the privileged are forced to treat those 'below' them as equals, they will claim that they are being discriminated against.

Oh piffle. How are the racists and bigots going to keep their racism & bigotry going if we teach people how pervasive and ingrained it is? How else are the politicians going to pander to their racist and bigoted base if they don't continue to perpetuate the lies and misinformation about CRT? Particularly the lie that "CRT says all white people are racist".

Oh hush. You're using facts. And reality. And you're pointing out that the climate is a very complex and interdependent system that we have a very limited understanding of. Any changes we make can and will have long term consequences (long term meaning decades or centuries). But because the year to year data can be manipulated to show whatever anyone wants, the deniers use it to 'prove' nothing is happening.

Sure they are. Watching people restrain themselves from opening the door and tossing the farter out is almost as funny as the fart itself. (tolja - 'junior high level mentality')
-
Nah, she just thinks we're obsessed with them when we make bad jokes. The simple reality is that many of us still have the 'junior high' mentality. For example, farts are always funny.

Sort of the opposite of the idea that the 'liberals' are pushing so hard for everyone to get vaxed because they know the idiot deplorables will oppose anything from the left?

Very true. Very good point. Thank you for the correction. I still do. Pretty serious acrophobia. On a roof? On a ladder? No thanks. But in the plane I'm fine (always have been). When the door opens, I get a moment of "Oh crap, that's a loooooong way down." Once the light goes green, I'm so focused on what I'm doing that I forget about it. That is also the case for colder jumps. I feel the cold when the door opens, but not once we go. I'm also fine under canopy. Someone pointed out to me a long time ago that it's more a 'fear of edges' than a 'fear of heights'. I found that to be both perceptive and accurate.

Line twists happen. Under a large, slow, docile student canopy they are usually a minor issue. They can be much more of an issue under a small, high performance canopy. Any canopy can kill you on any jump - even when you do everything right. That's why they teach you how to kick out of them. You did fine. As a side note, I learned on direct bag static line gear. The direct bag setup virtually guarantees line twists every time. It was really cool to get to hop & pops and not have them every time. Still got them once in a while, but not all the time. Edited to add the 'usually' and the part about any canopy. 'Cuz Chuck Akers is smarter than I am.

Post trump Legal Actions, Including his Enablers

Hi Jerry, It would take an act of Congress to reinstate the draft. Once that happens, there are age limitations on who can be drafted. All people 18-26 are required to register, although there's no actual draft right now. Both you and I are too old to be drafted, although I was registered when I was the appropriate age. This is all available on the Selective Service site. https://www.sss.gov/about/return-to-draft/ -
The EC was at least partly to allow the electors to over ride a blatantly stupid result because the 'unwashed masses' were conned into voting for someone really bad. The fact that Trump was put in office in 2016 clearly shows that this has failed.

There have also been a LOT of unvaxed pregnant women who suffered severe Covid, had the baby delivered prematurely by C-section, the baby survived but the mother then died without ever seeing her child.

Post trump Legal Actions, Including his Enablers
wolfriverjoe replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
Every accused is entitled to a vigorous legal defense. It's one on the pillars of our legal system. I don't begrudge even the most evil of these fascist, racist pigs a good mouthpiece. And yes, that lawyer will be paid in advance. As far as former military go, it's a bit complicated. Retirees (drawing a pension) are subject to military law & prosecution (UCMJ). It's a rare occurrence, but it's an option. Most 'regular' military end up in the reserves for a number of years after the regular enlistment is over. Those reservists are subject to UCMJ. For veterans who didn't reach 'retirement' status (20 years of service), have been discharged and completed the reserve commitment, they are 'free and clear'. They cannot be charged in a military court for any civilian crimes. (Usual disclaimer: This is how I understand it. I may be wrong. If someone knows better, I welcome correction.) -
I'd restrict that to 'some people'. Lots of intelligent people read the meme, ask 'is that true?' and then do some quick fact checking (you know, there's this thing that allows you to look up information really easily and quickly). Dumbasses read the meme, say to themselves "I like that, I agree with it, it must be TRUE!!!!!" Or they do a quick search, find stuff like OAN, WMD, Western Journal, Epoch Times that all reinforce the stupidity and go with it. Those are the people that say 'look how many deaths are caused by the vaccine!!!!' Those same people would look at the claims of larger penises and say (correctly) that it's not true.

I've made this point before, but here goes again: Historically, the fetus became a 'person' at the 'quickening', when it first shows detectable movement. There were rules and laws about things like harming the fetus, executing the pregnant woman (really) and other stuff that changed then. It stopped being 'all about the mother' and the fetus began to factor into things. Interestingly, modern medical science has reached the point where the fetus is viable (with pretty heroic support) at about the same time. I'm in favor of restricting abortions to 'medical necessity' after that.

There is a section of VAERS that's limited in who can report and access it. Also, the site itself contains a pretty clear disclaimer: Link:https://vaers.hhs.gov/data.html The people who monitor the site for real issues understand this and are doing a good job of separating the 'wheat from the chaff'. Fools who want to push an agenda misuse the data to convince other fools that the vax is dangerous.

Funny how the 'conservatives' scream 'cancel culture!!!' when people want to remove statues of traitorous losers because it 'ignores our history', yet refuse to allow teaching that actually examines that same 'history'.

They were both able to debate rationally & intelligently. They had positions that they were able to back up with facts & data (and linked stuff that was relevant and trustworthy). Both were articulate & polite while doing so. I didn't always agree with either of them, but I enjoyed learning how they felt about stuff & why.

Don't forget his VERY long history of creating sock puppets to get past being banned. There used to be a 'member list' that showed everyone's user name. If someone can point it out to me, I'd like to see how many variations of his name are listed, using extra 'o', 'r' & 'e'.

I agree that they are complicated. But let me ask this: Who, other than the fetus, can the abortion KILL? Drunk driving is illegal because it can and does kill other people. It's called 'homicide by intoxicated use of a motor vehicle'. The penalties are in line with involuntary manslaughter. That's a fairly recent (past 40 or 50 years) change. Smoking is tightly restricted because second hand smoke is dangerous. Again, a fairly recent change. On a side note, I've pondered mooching a cigarette off one of my friends who smokes. Then, when I'm in a 'masks required' area and virtually nobody is wearing one, pulling it out and lighting it up. The good old "if you're going to pick and choose which rules to obey then so am I". The unvaccinated are killing people. First by spreading the virus, second by tying up hospital resources. The hospitals are FULL. People who need life saving care are dying because they can't get in. The majority of Covid patients in the hospital are unvaxed. The VAST majority in ICU and on ventilators are unvaxed. Vax mandates have already been ruled legal by the SC. It was a while back, but precedent is still in place. I find it rather disgusting that people ignore the BILLIONS of vax doses safely administered, and latch onto the very, very small number of serious side effect cases. It's also maddening how many fools are refusing it just because "they don't want to do what they are told to do." Seriously, it's like they're toddlers refusing their vegetables. But, hey. They're dying by the thousands. I can't recall any event in recent history where stupidity was this deadly.

I think there are some crimes that clearly deserve the death penalty. However, it can be easily shown that the DP is applied to poor minorities at rates well above representation in court cases. The fact that the prosecutor didn't seek it in this case (three white defendants, one black victim) says a lot. That's why I'm against it. Not that I don't think certain people deserve it.
-
One of the more incredible (there are lots of other adjectives that can also apply) is that the reason the case gained 'traction' was because the dad gave the video taken by the third guy to an attorney. It was then leaked, intending to show that the murder was justified. The outcry from that made the attorney pull the video very quickly, but it was already too late. If those dipshits weren't stupid enough to think that what they did was ok (neither the father nor son has expressed any remorse), they may never have been prosecuted.

Funny that all those 'pro life' people are against government run health care (both for the mother and child), against government supported child care, against financial support for the parent & child (welfare), against EVERYTHING except making the woman carry the pregnancy to term.
