  1. I don't really think I'd put the NFL in the 'woke' category. Snoop is a big time star and that's who does the SB half time. I gotta say it's ironic that you blame Snoop for calling out the hate that minorities feel towards the cops (with some VERY valid reasons) and fail to call for the cops to be held accountable for their actions. Or for stronger enforcement of gun laws. As a side note, the guy who 'straw purchased' the rifle that Rittenhouse used got a plea deal. $2000 and misdemeanor conviction for 'contributing to the delinquency of a minor'. Long, long, looooooong way from the Class G felony punishment of 10 years and $250000 that a straw purchase can result in.
  2. Interesting. I googled it and the 'suggestive' part included 'myth' and 'overturned'. I had never looked that close, but you seem to be right.
  3. Interesting fact: Both Neil Young & Joni Mitchell had polio when they were young (pre-vax). They are both strong proponents of vaccine science (somehow not surprising). Gives a bit of perspective as to why they are taking such a strong stance against that idiot Rogan.
  4. Well, one of the foundations of American criminal law is the presumption of innocence. Going back even further, Sir William Blackstone is credited with the quote: Source: https://flexbooks.ck12.org/user:zxbpc2rzcziwmthaz21hawwuy29t/cbook/episd-united-states-government-2019-2020/section/1.3/primary/lesson/1.3-important-individuals/ I thought it was Jefferson who said it, so I learned something today. That doesn't mean that false accusations should result in abandoning ANY investigation of accusations, but that we need to maintain balance. The last part of Wendy's comment (that I cut out) addresses this. Edit to add: The Neil Young/Spotify thing is getting interesting. His music represents a tiny fraction of the content on the platform, but his fans are rather vociferous. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2022/01/spotify-support-buckles-under-complaints-from-angry-neil-young-fans/?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=news_tab&fbclid=IwAR2f3e7M_TP4OHEt79UoiyODVcsd59DKxkIoW5kXEwW4AP1TSWuuFvPQWsA Customer support was overloaded. Their Twitter feed shut down. Their stock is tanking. Uh oh.
  5. Impeachment is a political process, not a criminal one. The circus of the impeachment 'trials' (both of them) demonstrated that pretty clearly. The Jan 6th committee, OTOH, can recommend criminal charges to the Attorney General. I'm hopeful, but not terribly optimistic that Trump will face real consequences. But, as you correctly point out, conviction or acquittal in a criminal court won't change his Twitter status.
  6. I have a friend (non-jumper) who has a Consew 225. Straight only, no zig-zag. No reverse. Clutch motor. Standard table (what I've always seen a commercial machine on). It's clean and runs well. She isn't using it, and is thinking about getting rid of it. What sort of price should she start at? Can anyone who knows the values of these give me an idea? Or point me to some sort of pricing guide? Thanks
  7. Well, his job was already open. He was one of the very few who quit rather than get vaxed. He's made the Herman Cain Awards.
  8. Again, thank you for the info my post was lacking. I read her on FB (yes, I FB quite a bit, just not for 'news' and only for selected political stuff) and the sources aren't there. For the idea that "Trump's hold over the GOP is waning", and the idea that Rs aren't still claiming the election was 'stolen': https://www.axios.com/jan-6-poll-axios-momentive-26ba0f30-e2b1-4530-803c-860e6302c5a9.html
  9. Thanks. I did a quick search, but the stories I read didn't have the exact date. I'm vaxed, so I wouldn't have to worry about it, and I don't cross into Canada anymore so its not on my 'list of shit I need to care about.'
  10. Yeah. Even if Canada rescinded it's mandate, the US still has one that starts soon (today?).
  11. There's a bunch of memes going around on FB about this. Most of them are saying 'if they want to ban a book, go find it and read it because what they want to hide is what you need to know'. One is a fairly well known Stephen King quote.
  12. One more time. It was not a WaPo poll. It was a poll conducted elsewhere. WaPo (and a lot of other outlets) just reported on it. On a different note, Heather Cox Richardson cited a 'recent poll' (didn't see which one) that said 57% of Rs wouldn't vote for any candidate who admits that Biden won. https://www.facebook.com/heathercoxrichardson Story from Jan 28th for those reading this in the future. I'm not a big fan of citing 'undisclosed sources', but HCR is pretty solid.
  13. Well, it's not super clear. It reads at first look as "all guns that aren't full auto are semi auto". But you're saying that anything self loading that isn't full auto is semi. I'm not the only one who misread it that way. But not all self loading is blowback. There are several different methods of operation. You're not including repeaters or single shots (but they aren't self loading) and blew off Gowlerk's comment about muzzle loaders. It's not a 'hair splitting' discussion. The differences are pretty clearly defined. Both from and engineering standpoint and a legal one. I'm not trying to 'split hairs' or be pedantic (although I am a little bit). I'm a 'detail weenie' who hates it when people get engineering or legal stuff wrong.
  14. True, but both of them have: 1 - Enough money to put principles first, and enough other sources of income that they can tell Spotify 'goodbye'. 2 - A fairly long history of putting principles before money.
  15. Nope. Semi auto (also known as 'self loading') is when the action is articulated by the energy of the cartridge that was fired. This can be gas operated (where there's a port in the barrel that diverts some of the gas to cycle the bolt) or 'recoil operated', commonly called 'blow back' where the force of the fired cartridge on the bolt face is used to cycle the action. Full auto is when the mechanism is set up to allow multiple shots to be fired by holding the trigger. Semi is when only one shot fires with each trigger pull. Things like bolt action, lever action, pump action, ect are considered 'repeating' because they can fire more than one shot without reloading, although the operator has to manipulate the operating mechanism to get the next shot ready. As a side note, malfunctioning semi autos sometimes become 'repeating' when they get to dirty or damaged to function properly. Then there are single shot guns. They have no way to hold more than one* shot at a time. They can be bolt action, falling block (the old Cavalry rifles that got Custer & his troops killed) or break action (where it 'unfolds' and opens from the middle). "Old school" muzzle loaders are also single shot, but they are a rather specialized area. This is basic firearms stuff. Not 'splitting hairs'. * - Double barreled shotguns (and rifles) are virtually identical to single shots, but having two barrels gives them two shots.
  16. Really? Are you going down the "Fake News" garbage disposal? I still remember the 'revolving door' of the Trump administration. WaPo & NYT would report that 'sources said' someone was on the way out. Trump's spokescreatures would say 'That's a LIE!!!!! and vehemently deny it. And a week later, that person would be gone. The poll didn't come from the WaPo. The story did. It was the top result on a google search. All the other results had similar numbers.
  17. Not the ones I read. WaPo poll: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2022/01/07/republicans-big-lie-trump/ 46% "Definitely not legit" 25% "Probably not"
  18. I've seen reports that something like 60%+ of Rs believe the lie that the election was 'stolen'. Two thirds is not the 'fringe'. I'd like to believe that the moderate right is growing, but I'm not seeing much of it. Trump and his idiots have a very strong grip on the party.
  19. Doubtful. #1 - Plea deals save a lot of time & money. They also remove any chance for something 'weird' happening during the trial. #2 - Plea deals almost always include cooperating with the prosecution. The idea that these people came up with this is pretty ludicrous. The folks who directed it are the real targets. There's a very strong case for conspiracy against people who did nothing actually illegal themselves (didn't forge documents), but directed others to commit those crimes. I'd really like to see the people 'at the top' face consequences. Not super confident it will actually happen, but I'm hopeful.
  20. Well, Biden actually holds press conferences. How long did Trump go without a real one? Anymore? You mean he was at one time? First, off, what "moderate Republicans? They've all become hostage to Trump and the Trumpettes. The ones that believe the election was stolen. Every R has voted against everything Biden has proposed. McConnell has said, again, that his only agenda is blocking Biden from accomplishing anything. What "mess at the border"? Seriously, there are people trying to cross into the US. Some illegally, some trying to claim asylum. Many of the illegals are arrested & deported. The asylum seekers are processed as always (Note: Those seeking asylum are NOT here 'illegally'). How is this different than ever before? Other than the lies and propaganda about the 'crisis' that Fox and the rest of the Right Wing Universe are spewing. What 'illegal actions' are being ignored?
  21. I have a Porsche 928. It's fairly uncommon and obscure. The biggest cultural reference is the movie "Risky Business" (it was Tom Cruise's dads car that got dropped in Lake Michigan). When someone asks 'what kind of car is that?' I usually ask if they've ever seen it. Some have, some haven't.
  22. Oh please Professor. And I mean "puhleeeeeeeeeeze". You are (were? I can't remember if you've retired or not) a college professor. You indoctrinate the innocent and naive young minds with your 'liberal elite' brainwashing. You teach these young people how to think for themselves> And to question the status quo. Things like rights for the downtrodden. Protecting the environment. Caring for other people. You (personally) are responsible for the decline and fall of modern civilization. Damnit, we really need a 'sarcasm' font.
  23. That damage was being done long before Trump. Trump was barely running when McConnell refused to do his constitutional duty and hold hearings for Garland. Trump was still declaring bankruptcy on a regular basis and raping teenagers when Gingrich started his garbage (you know him, he's the one who wants to see the Jan 6 committee members 'locked up')
  24. On a positive note, the battle against misinformation has taken a couple steps forward. Dan Bongino has been permanently banned by YouTube. He was suspended a couple weeks ago for misinformation, and then tried to get around that ban by using other channels (sock puppets anyone?). So now he's gone forever (at least from there). https://www.reuters.com/business/media-telecom/youtube-permanently-bans-fox-news-host-dan-bongino-2022-01-26/ On a slightly different note, Neil Young has removed all of his material from Spotify. It's in protest over Spotify hosting Joe Rogan's misinformation. https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/26/entertainment/neil-young-spotify/index.html
