Holy cow that sucks!!! I hope all works out for you guys! Each day, I continue to knock on wood and be thankful I have a job. It's scary out there.... g +1 Freight has gotten slow, my miles are down about 25%. I get paid by the mile. BUT - I still have a job. For which I am very thankful. I hope it works out for both Skymama and Pokerstar. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

I was wondering the same thing. FAR to much knowledge to be a regular troll. Kinda like the "really bad" stunt flying. Takes an expert to be that bad without really screwing up. And aren't hop n' packs just another way of saying "jump, pack, repeat"? Oh well, to-may-to, to-mah-to. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Should basic first aid be a requirement for the A
wolfriverjoe replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I voted no. A-license is about skydiving. I think everyone should go through 1st aid/CPR. The Red Cross has a good course. I've taken it a bunch of times (CPR cert has expiration date). One of the things that is taught is to not do anything you aren't trained for and to stay out of the way of those who are. Good Samaritan laws are covered also. Buying a mint 40 jump canopy from a rigger - inspection
wolfriverjoe replied to likestojump's topic in Gear and Rigging
I'd want it escrowed through a rigger I trust. This isn't a reflection on you, it's my lack of experience and trust in these transactions. There should be a time frame specified, however. Money sent, or canopy returned within 2 days of recipt. Or am I being unreasonable? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Nice job on the video. It's interesting to see what might have happened that night. The pallets have 2 canopies each because of the weight. When they drop really big stuff (the Russians used to drop armored personnel carriers - with the crew in them) they add more. Notice how the "horizontal jumper's" canopy is opening. A while back, there was some discussion about round canopies "squibbing". Not opening fully until they slowed down some. That appears to be happening in the video. I think those jumpers would be sore from the hard openings, but the traumatic injuries from a 727 hop & pop are probably not going to happen. If Cooper went out the door with his hand on the handle, and managed to execute the pull, I think he would have been ok. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Don't the "differently abled" wish to be treated "just like everybody else"?

+1 Unless the lawyers are divers too, you might notice something important that they wouldn't understand. Also, you will probably have some questions for your lawyers that you won't want to ask in front of the other side. Don't trust to memory. Good luck with all of it. I was really sorry to hear what happened. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

So you are planning on using discount ammo when your life depends on it? Some of my handloads get some bullet lube gunged up around the case mouth (after I've loaded a bunch without cleaning out the seat die). They occasionally fail to seat properly. I don't cull them out because they are good for malfunction drills. OTOH, the ONLY rounds in my mags when my life may depend on it are Winchester XTPs. I have spent quite a bit of money making sure they function properly (Kimber compact 45). Sig vs 1911 is kind of a "boxers vs briefs" IMHO. What YOU are most comfortable with, have trained with, have control familiarity with, ect. If you already have a Sig, you may want to stick with it. Cross training with pistols takes a lot of effort. I prefer my Kimber, and I have practiced enough that cocked and locked is not a problem. Taking the safety off as the weapon comes up has become second nature. Where I have trouble is with my S&W J-frame. Doing revolver drills is so different from the semi-auto stuff that I'm not sure how well I'd do under real-life stress. Others prefer DAO. The heavier, longer trigger pull becomes "normal" to them, and they do just fine with it. Kimber and Sig both cost a good amount, and have good reputations. I think that correlates. How? Easy- they are available. ANY car can be cool if you are 16. If it isn't cool to start with, then you make it cool. When enough people start modifying them, parts become available. How about a V-8 Vega? I think they even made parts to soup up Pintos at one point in time. I've been thinking about this a bit before answering. I think you should try talking to the guy. Maybe he doesn't realize how annoying it is to other people. He thinks it sounds cool, so everyone else must like it too, right? Talk to the guy in person too. The anonymous note bullshit just pisses people off. Maybe try saying something like "all the other neighbors are annoyed at you. I like your car, but don't want to see the cops get called". Yeah, its kind of chicken, but gets your point across without making you a target. If all else fails, call the cops. Illegal modifications to the exhaoust usually aren't the only things these kids do, and if it has enough done to it, the cops can make him park it (In CA, they can confiscate it, don't know about FL). Basically what he said. This is going to get me flamed but so what. It is the “Entitlement Generation” convinced they are entitled to do what they want when they want. They refuse to consider that they might make a mistake and could care less about the rights and safety of others. This is just my opinion, rant over. Sparky I agree with your opinion. The same "entitled ones" also seem to be the "immune ones" who don't need the reccommended experience to do advanced stuff- downsizing, swooping, freefly ect. They won't get hurt, they're different than all the people who got hurt or killed. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." An old friend's family had a tradition of putting small gifts inside multiple wrapped boxes-upwards of 8 or 10. Each neatly wrapped with a ribbon and all that. However, they earned what they worked for- the smaller the last box, the better the present. The car keys inside the 10th box was probably the best one. And I don't think that video was funny. It was mean. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

I could be wrong, but when I read the information sent to my DZ, I understood that the student could, but didn't have to give the contact information, and if they did that it would be used to contact them to try and keep them interested in continuing to skydive. I don't recall anything about a weekly e-mail newsletter however. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Give the dog a pat on the head for protecting your daughter. Tell the villagers that they will be fine, as long as they don't attack your daughter. You don't make it clear whether or not your dog was on a leash at the time. Where I live there is a leash law. Loose dogs are in the wrong, almost always. If both dogs are loose, then it gets messy. I have a Yorkie terrier, also a small nervous dog, also tends to snap at people's ankles. I don't consider it acceptable, and it is one of the few things he gets punished (spanked) for. How does the priest feel? Did he try to keep the dog secured? Did he try to stop it from going for people's ankles? Or did he let it run loose and say "oh, it's just playing, it won't really hurt anyone". This really sucks. I hope you can find a solution. Medical certificate? How difficult it realy is?
wolfriverjoe replied to format's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I've had two physicals as a TI, and never received the glove treatment. And I do have a prostate --- it reminds of that every morning around 3 AM Yeah, I get a 2nd class for my commercial pilot license with no finger up my butt. I get the hernia check - turn your head and cough, but that's it. And Quade is right about the vision thing. 2nd class requires pretty good close vision- reading the small print on the charts and approach plates and such. I'm officially old - the doc says either bifocals next year or drop down to 3rd class. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." In the DB Cooper thread in S H&T, there is a regular poster who is quite determined about her point of view. Anything that contradicts this point of view is taken as an attack. Some posts have suggested the poster is delusional. This is one of the responses to one of the definitions of "delusional" -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Reply To -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- An attempt to contradict the belief is likely to arouse an inappropriately strong emotional reaction, often with irritability and hostility. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Should you really be discussing Speakers' Corner posters in this forum? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I doubt any seriously held beliefs are ever changed because of a post here, but I enjoy a reasonable debate, and am willing to listen to and discuss opposing viewpoints. And my reasoning is never perfect, and the opposing views are very good at pointing out my logic flaws. Something along the lines of "Agreeing to disagree". I think most of the more fanatical posters don't expect to convert the opposite side over, but hope to bring the fence sitters to their side. But I'm sure someone will argue that point with me

How the.. what the... are you... where the f... I'm literally speechless! Ignores their misbehaviour? What? Seriously? I don't even know what you think you mean. You have blown my mind. How many news reports covered the Abu Graib scandal? Thousands? How many news reports covered the Al Queda comic book torture manual? The manual that showed how to use power tools. The manual that showed what areas just hurt and maim without killing. How many news reports cover the civilians killed by US forces in both Afghanistan and Iraq? Hundreds? How many reports cover the civilans killed by the Taliban and Al Queda? The thousands of civilans killed either in direct retaliation for cooperating with US forces, or killed for refusing to cooperate with the Taliban or Al Queda. I'm not saying that atrocites committed by the US are justified. Or acceptable. Or anything but atrocities. As with the Vietnam war, the US news media seems to cover human rights violations committed by the US far more aggressively than any atrocities committed by the other side. And sometimes seems to dismiss the version put out by the military as propaganda, while believing in full the version put out by the other side. It would make me happy if the next administration repudiates the Bush doctrine and declares that the USA will abide by the Geneva Conventions. Don't the Geneva Conventions only apply to uniformed soldiers? And exclude irregular/guerilla forces? Don't they specifically allow summary execution of those out of uniform, or in the enemy's uniform? (The very famous picture of the man in civilan clothes being shot in the head during the Tet offensive in Vietnam was such an event-he was a NVA office in civvies). Would the Geneva Conventions even apply to the Taliban and Al Queada? I could be wrong on this, but I think not. I am in no way advocating torture. It is counterproductive in most cases. But when the other side plays by its own rules, and the media seems to ignore their misbehavior, I get a little jaded. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Skyrad had a lot of very good points. A gun is not a magic wand that will make the bad guy go away. Have a plan. Practice it. Then practice it some more. If you are on talking terms with your neighbors, make sure they know. It might be their ass too. More eyes watching is a very good thing. I tend to reccomend a shotgun also. Check your local laws. Fed says 18" barrel, 26" overall. Don't automatically go for a 12ga. 20ga is almost as powerful, and less recoil. I would stay away from pistol grips. They are a royal bitch to shoot well without a lot of practice. Shooting from the hip is harder than it looks, and if you bring it up to eye level, you may well punch yourself in the mouth. (my pistol grip is in the parts drawer for this reason) Shotguns still need to be aimed (see below) and take a bit of practice to get the drill down. If you get one PRACTICE with it. Short-shucking a pump will put it out of commission and get you killed. I don't have LouDiamonds experience, but I've always liked birdshot for indoor use. At close range, the pattern only opens up a couple inches, and you won't overpenetrate. And a whole load of birdshot at 10' is going to do damage. Small buckshot (#4) is good too. But, it has to hit to do the damage. A shotgun at close range has to be aimed. And keep in mind the legalities. Using a firearm is usually considered "deadly force", even if you aim low. I was taught to shoot for center mass, and shoot until the attack stops. If the dude drops his gun and gives up after the first shot, stop. If not, keep shooting. If he goes down, make sure he has stopped. If not keep shooting. If you shoot someone, you will probably be arrested. Even in your own home. Find a good defense lawyer now, and keep his card close. Get his advice on what to say if anything happenes ("I'm very upset now officer. I will make a statement, but right now I'd like to speak with my attorney" is pretty standard). Concealed carry instructors usually have a list of local lawyers who are good at self-defense defense. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." The harder you turn the more thuds? Repeating thuds or just louder thuds? Thuds you can feel through the floor usually indicate something fairly big shifting around. (Like the entire wheel assembly) If you just replaced the bearings, I'm guessing ball joints or control arms. Doing it in cold/not doing in warm is the lube being stiff. Did it keep doing it after driving for a while (after the car warmed up?) I hate to say it, but the Car Talk guys have a "rating" for repairs: Costs more money if you ignore, Leaves you stranded if you ignore, or KILLS YOU IF YOU IGNORE. Steering problems fall under the third category. I understand you don't have money to fix it, but do you have the money to deal with the front wheel falling off at highway speeds? Or the steering going out? (Bad balljoints can lock your steering up-usually at the worst possible time) I would strongly suggest getting someone to check it out for real. A decent mechanic could simply do a couple figure 8's and have a good idea how bad it is. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I like what Dave said. I drive truck, so I spend a lot of time watching idiots risk their (and my) lives. And for what? 10 or 15 seconds? Maybe 10 or 15 minutes across a whole day of driving? The cops are pretty much the same all over. 5mph or so over will not get you into trouble. Even 10-15 doesn't seem to bother them if most of the traffic is going that fast. BUT, if there isn't anybody passing you at all, then you are the fastest. And if you don't lane jump, tailgate, or otherwise drive like an idiot, then you don't have to worry about the cops, do you?? I kind of like the high enforcement weekends. My truck is goverened to 65, so I really don't have to worry about speeding, and the extra cops keep the idiots a little under control (or under arrest).
