So, (lawyer?) snowball, does the SOL mean that no claims can be filed or just that the original thief can no longer be held accountable? Not a lawyer, but if the property is considered stolen (not sure if it is stolen or not-the fraud argument is interesting) then it is still considered "possesion of stolen property". If the original thief got rid if it quickly, then he might be free and clear. But stolen property remains stolen property forever. BUT- that link is for statute of limitations on civil matters. Criminal SOLs are a little different. In WI it's 3 years on misdemeanors and 7 years for felonies. The value of the rig would probably make it a felony (theft or fraud). I have no doubt you'll find something. But before you beat yourself up, look carefully along any stretch of road. Skidmarks, dented guardrails, scuffs/tracks in the shoulder all that stuff. If you stop and investigate each one, you'll never get anywhere. Since the wreck wasn't found for several days, I'm sure a lot of people went past the scene without seeing it. I wonder how many police that knew she was missing went past it. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." On windows95, I got up to 30000 sequentially. 11982 was the only one I couldn't get through. Some took more than one try. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Tom, as someone said, at this point, all of this has been discussed previously. No, I don't expect you to look through all the fluff and chaff to find it. That's what we idiots are for: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=3318916#3318916 As you can read, the old rounds are a lot different from the ram-air squares we jump today. 377 had the right idea. If Cooper pulled high enough, he was ok under canopy. What happened after landing is a whole different issue. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Mine still hasn't disappeared completely. I hope it never does. That would mean that I've gotten complacent to the point that I would be a danger to myself and others It does get better with time. Never heard of one loosening up, but I haven't been around that long. How tight do you normally have it? You were backflying right? Try tightening the chest strap normally, then lay on your back and see of it is as tight then. If there is slack in it, could the turbulence in your burble have fluttered it enough to loosen it?? I don't know if this is possible or not. It's just a scenario that jumped into my head. Feel free to contradict it or just laugh. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." just starting.. Wow. Pretty cool. Although they talked a bit about the danger, it had the least focus on "dangerous and crazy skydivers" of anything I've seen lately. Have you asked your son?? Surprises are nice and all that but this is a piece of equipment that the owner has to decide on. 7 or 9 cell, wingloading, shape, even colors are such a personal decision that I don't think you should make it without his input. Especially when you consider the cost. Perhaps think about getting a brand new Cypress (or other brand AAD if he prefers) instead. That is something that some skydivers do without because of cost, even though they might want it. Show him you support his jumping and want him to do it safely. You might get some good advice here, but as was suggested above, talking to your son's instructors or a rigger on his DZ would be the place to get advice you would be safe actually following. Oh HELL NO!!!!!!! Afraid so. Video clip from Sheboygan this year. If you listen closely you can hear the "It's not cold enough" chant: http://www.sheboyganpress.com/apps/pbcs.dll/section?Category=videonetwork&videoID=981844741 And this is a couple good friends of mine. Why not? If you've seen any tandem videos on YouTube, most of them have a short interview before and after the jump. For something that elaborate you would want to make sure the videographer knows what you want to do beforehand. With a little luck, a cooperative camera guy may be willing to have a list of questions to ask you. Again, most videos have the standard "why are you doing this?, are you scared?, what does your family think?" stuff, with a little preparation and cooperation, anything is possible (within reason). I'm not in Chicago, and I didn't make the one in Sheboygan WI (closest to me) this year. I found what looked like some pretty good deals on Ammo for both the M91/30 (7.62x54R) and the Yugo SKS (7.62x39) on "Aimsurplus". http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/7_62x54R.html http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/7_62x39.html What can I expect from them? I know much surplus is corrosive and requires immediate cleaning of the weapon, but how about reliability? Now I've got to figure out why I can't have Ammo shipped to Yolo county CA. I've never dealt with these guys, but most of the big mail-order firms are ok. They have Federal firearms and ammunition licenses and all that goes with them. The Surplus ammo is ok. I haven't seen too many failure to fires with it. The really old WWI stuff can be unreliable, but I've never seen any that was dangerous, it just didn't work. Read the fine print-"Check your local laws before ordering". Some places have outlawed mail order ammo, parts, all sorts of gun stuff. Work (if allowed), friends, family, shooting ranges, maybe even a local gun dealer (porbably involve fees). Alternative addresses aren't all that hard. Just make sure you are in compliance with the law. You might not get caught, but if you do... It won't be good. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." When can I start learning to fly with a camera?
wolfriverjoe replied to Petrovich's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Read the sticky in the Photog& Video forum. It will answer a lot of the whens and give whys. Its a lot more involved than it looks. There's lots of other good information in the forum too. Having a camera on you tells you very little about what you are doing. The best way to start IMO, is to find a camera flier at your DZ who is willing to mentor you. You can start to learn what kind of flying you will need to do to video properly (being able to get where you need to be and more important, get away when you have to). You can also learn what you are looking for (lighting angles, good/better/best shots, ect) and get some practice editing. There is a lot to learn before you strap the camera on. If IAD follows the same progression as Static Line, you do 2 jumps, then you do 3 practice ripcord pulls (ripcord in rig that doesn't do anything. You have to demonstrate that you can find and pull the ripcord) If you do the 3 practice pulls ok, then you do a Hop'n'Pop (pull right after letting go of the plane). After that you start doing delayed falls, with longer and longer (and higher and higher) freefalls. If you look here: uspa.org you will find the Skydiver's Information Manual (SIM) that covers a lot of this stuff. If you want to be a real skydiver, you should get a copy. Yes and no. I work for a big company, so I get no say in my loads or destinations. They say go, I go. I was in Ogden UT on the 23rd, but only had a little time to waste. Took a shower at the Pilot, got a bite to eat, and made my delivery. Sat and got unloaded, went and parked for the night, got reloaded the morning of the 24th and headed back towards home. I have a really cool, but odd schedule. I go out for 7 days, and them I'm home for 7 days (split the truck with another driver). If I have enough time to do anything out on the road, I'm losing money. And, I'm a little uncomfortable jumping while I'm out on the road. How in the world would I explain it to my dispatcher if I got hurt? Even a sprained ankle could keep me from going down the road. If I got hurt at home, I could just not go out, but if it happened at, say Z-hills (I've picked up water there), that would be bad. Only got 32 this year, only got three in the spring, then lost most of May and all of June to weather, soggy runways. But, I got my first camera jumps in, and jumped a "big" plane for the first time (PAC-750) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." wolfriverjoe replied to iluvtofly's topic in The Bonfire
Sadly, some people are just asses and alcohol has nothing to do with it. True enough, but unfortunately, alcohol tends to bring out the ass in all of us. My goals: Be a better friend. Jump lots (duh). Get good enough to be a camera flier. Stop talking about it and actually get my rigger rating. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." There's not a lot of DZs that will jump minors. Most tandem manufacturers prohibit it in their TOS contracts. Here is one who did it underage (Static line): http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3390526;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; And here is a fairly long discussion about underage waivers: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=3355287;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; Given the recent decision by the FL supremes, it will probably get less common. A pilots license isn't a bad way to go. If you take it all the way to a commercial, you can fly jumpers (many DZs use single engined Cessna 182s). Then you can make the money you'll spend on jumping. Some of it anyway. Good luck. BTW-Static line and IAD are quite similar, they are explained in the "Learn to Skydive" section here, or on USPA's site, or any of the bigger DZs sites. Anyone else like hop n pops?
wolfriverjoe replied to TerminatorSRT4's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I'm more interested in improving my freefall skills, so they aren't my first choice for a jump. BUT. if there are low clouds, or there is a slot left on a load of static lines, or any other reason I can't get to full altitude-It's still a jump. Exit, opening, canopy flight, landing. It's still good. It's still fun. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
