I still believe Cooper had a plan. I think he somehow knew that the stairs could be opened in flight. Cooper knew he'd get what he wanted. Policy at that time was to give them what they wanted, keep the hostages safe, and try to catch them when they left the plane. There was no such thing as Delta Force, FBI Hostage Rescue Team or any of that stuff back then (Even SWAT was in its infancy). The idea of trying to rescue the hostages came about after (during) the 72 Munich Olympic debacle. Even today, handing a bank teller a note claiming to have a gun will get you the money. You don't really need the gun. Same policy. As far as the drawings go, the ears, and especially the nose don't match Weber. If they did the Identikit template, and got it right (both are "ifs"), that is a big vote against Weber. You said that Space-time are warped inversely by the "Weber Effect". Would that have any effect on the speed of jumping to conclusions? Or would the speed of jumping to conclusions have an effect on space-time?

I know you said you're shy, but you have to reach out. I have never been to Eloy, but I can't believe you'd be refused if you asked. The people in this sport are the best I've ever been around. Ask at manifest if they have any other low timers. Ask the instructors who the recent graduates are. Then, get three newbies together and find an experienced jumer, coach, or instructor who'd be willing to jump with you (the three of you split the cost of his lift ticket). Nobody would be willing to put you on a jump far beyond your skills (too dangerous for all), but lots of jumpers are "boring belly fliers" and there have to be some looking for a partner for a jump or two. I spent a day at a different DZ last fall, and was jumping with different people on each jump. On the last one, an experienced guy asked me to jump with him because he didn't want to solo. All my friends and I had to do was ask. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

I've been out of town and am just now catching up. If someone else answered already... #1 no goggles- tie strap on glasses, doesn't work for long freefalls. #2 Bigger goggles that go over glasses. #3 Prescription lense goggles- about $100 out of the back of Parachutist. Are your jumps tandem or AFF? Piloting jump aircraft is pretty cool. Only time in aviation where you land with fewer pax than you took off with How many times have you wanted to tell a passenger to get out of the plane in midflight? It does have its differences, you need to be very comfortable in slow flight. A good place to look is: http://www.diverdriver.com/ He posts here (DZ.com) too. I always thought that the "rigger as a middleman" practice was based on using a rigger that both parties knew. Personally, 2nd hand (friend of a friend) or by reputation. If you don't know him, then I don't see that here. That is in no way suggesting that this is a scam, but I can see reasons for your hesitation. McCoy got caught because he couldn't keep his mouth shut. His plan worked. He was a green beanie. Those guys know how to make a plan that is adaptable. We'll never know how far he had to deviate from his original plan. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Sitting at home, waiting for a trailer to be loaded. THEN, I have to drive through blizzards and snow and all that shit to be in Ogden UT by Tuesday. Running out west in the summer is cool as all hell, running there in the winter is just hell. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Was this part of the quote? The reason I ask is that because of how young Caylee was. It is normal for some of her bones to pebble sized. Especially in her hands and feet. I have been watching on CNN and they spoke about that fact and that is one of the reasons they are taking so long at the site. They expected to find bones that small. NOt trying to take the heat off the mom at all. Just saying that I dont think she beat the child or crushed her bones. Seems the "experts" are still thinking that she killed her by trying to put her to sleep with the chloroform. Direct quote from news story "there was no trauma to the bones prior to death". If it was the mom, I hope she spends the rest of her life behind bars. Even more, I hope they get the right person (it looks a lot like the mom did it, but I don't know all of the evidence). How many bad landings is ok for every 100 jumps?
wolfriverjoe replied to FrancoR's topic in Safety and Training
Is a PLF after geting an unexpected gust "bad"? Is a standup 2 feet from hitting the hangar "good"? Some of the landings I was happiest about were fairly ugly looking, until you consider that the wind picked up beyond what I would have chosen to jump while we were climbing to altitude. Being able to land near my chosen target without injury made it a great landing. Others, while standup, demonstrated a lack of awareness of my surroundings, current conditions, canopy drive, available landing area, ect. So while I understand your question, I need a more detailed definition of "good" and "bad". "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Fascinating thoughts about the "Cargo Kicker" background. I posted lots of reasons for Cooper being a low number jumper (Door fear being the biggest). A cargo kicker who took an unexpected jump would fit most of them and have good reasons for taking the NB6. Canadian accents are fairly diverse as I understand. I go through Ontario a good bit and Quebec sometimes. The stereotypical "Up Nort" (no "h") accent is common up around Sault Ste Marie/Sudbury/North Bay. (The first time I heard someone say "eh" for real I almost laughed) Down near Michigan (Sarnia/Windsor) and across to Buffalo NY/Niagra Falls area it is barely noticable. Quebec has strong French accents and some that only speak French, but that's the only place AFAIK. And further east, the Newfie accents are really strong versions of New England, plus a touch of french. Out west, the accents get less and less (no personal experience, but History Channel had a lot of Canadian speakers on their "Ice Road Trucker" show). I've never been way out to the Pacific Northwest, but proximity would suggest that Vancouver BC would be somewhat similar to Seattle area (Like Detroit similar to Windsor) but that really just a guess. I would have a difficult time distinguishing between a strong Yooper (Upper MI) accent and a Northwest Ontario accent. With Tina being from "back east" would she be able to tell the difference between Seattle and Vancouver? The idea of Cooper being Canadian would answer a lot of questions about nobody recognizing him or reporting him missing. It also make the demand for "negotiable currency" make a bit more sense. Someone from the US would just ask for cash, but someone from out of the country?? "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Well, the obsession never really goes away, but it lessens to managable levels. At least it did for me. And I am one of the lucky ones who loves my job. Really. Not everyday, and probably not this coming week with the snowstorms coming across. And the bad economy has hurt some. But I usually look forward to taking off each week for parts far away. I only wish it was somewhere warmer this week. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Should basic first aid be a requirement for the A
wolfriverjoe replied to Tuna-Salad's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Nor am I a doctor, but that agrees completely with what I was taught. With rare exception, for an accident at the DZ the only thing my basic training would allow me to do would be to keep the victim still, and get vital signs for the EMTs when they arrive. Making sure they are breathing, keeping them still and as calm as possible, keeping others away (unless they have real training) and wait for the EMTs. But as you said, basic first aid teaches you what not to do as much as what to do. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit."
