  1. Agreed. Someone (Billvon IIRC) said in one of the previous gay marriage threads that it would be a whole lot simpler in the long run to have government only recognize "civil unions" between 2 consenting adults, and leave the "marriage" part to the churches. That would take care of survivor benefits, property rights, health care decisions, all that stuff. But that isn't going to happen. 2. IIRC there are 1100+ rights/privileges granted to married couples at the federal level. The words marriage, husband and wife are in the statutes. These range from Social Security spousal survivor benefits to family discounts at the National Parks. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 3. Those who hate the US will always find something to use. Most of them are retarded. The very few that are legit either get lost in the noise or are used by the retards to justify crap like this. South Park has a way of putting a lot of truth in their satire. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 4. Well, search Yves Rossy here on DZcom and you might find This. Is that what you're looking for? I kinda like Ryoder's link better myself, but YMMV "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  5. #1 Go to a real fitness center and have a trainer set up a good program. Lots of gyms offer trial memberships for next to nothing. #2 Go to Play It Again Sports or a similar used sporting goods store and get a set of free weights and a simple bench. You don't need fancy equipment. You need the motivation. I have a set of free weights. I could use a tri-press bar and a curl bar, but I get by without them. I can work all major muscle groups with what I have. (plus pushups and situps - I hook my feet under the big barbell for situps). Actually, the best "workout machine" I have is my dog. The weights don't look at me with "puppy eyes" and cry and whine if I don't pick them up. The weather has been an issue lately, but we do 3+ miles on a regular basis when it's nice out. 6. Yes. You are writing garbage and are fortunate you're doing it about me. I cut people slack for personal attacks against me (I figure it comes with the gig), but pull that crap on other people and you'll be gone in an instant. Either that or you've become numb to it from the DB Cooper thread "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 7. No. Anyone (with any intelligence) who watched him get unnaturally huge as fast as he did (same goes for Giambi and Bonds) knows perfectly well what he was doing. One of the more interesting clips was one of McGwire and Randy Johnson in college at the same time (and they were nearly the same size). McGwire got huge, Johnson didn't - and he was well known for his dedication to fitness. But as a pitcher not a hitter, Johnson didn't need to bulk up. By going public and apologizing, he has opened the door for the fans to forgive him. And they will, it's been done too many times (Michael Vick is only the most recent). 8. I agree mostly with this. The "mostly" is because that this is such a divisive issue, and there are some pretty scary extremists (on both sides, but more of the antis). Giving some level of privacy to those making the arguments and the decision is an understandable precaution. I'm not sure I agree with the blocking of the video, but I understand the reasoning. Edit to totally backtrack. I read the link all the way through. The antis want to hide, those in favor want the whole world to see. The antis have sued to block release of the names on the petitions in Washington State. Due to fears of repercussions against those who have signed them. They are public records. If you aren't willing to stand up for your prejudices, then go ahead and put on the white hood "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 9. What are you looking to learn? What are you expecting to see? The only things I can see about myself on video I shoot are heading control and a little bit of relative fall rate. Body postion, arch, leg position, and what my body is actually doing are all out of the shot. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 10. 60 Senators would also have to approve it. Something I'd consider rather unlikely. 60 senators have to approve a treaty? Where would I find some info on this process. You caught me unaware on this one. Or, what is the process called so I can google it Thanks Marc 67 actually (2/3 majority) US Senate website. When in doubt, go straight to the source (or the 1st link in a google search) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 11. Considering that 48% (IIRC) of the voters were in favor of allowing it, I'd like to know how 4% of the population is allowed to make the decision for the whole state. And in a different context, The "Voters" in the deep south back before the Civil Rights era were perfectly happy to pass laws restricting what black people could do. Was that right? Just because the majority decides something doesn't make it right. That's what the constitution is for. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 12. Iran, North Korea and Pakistan (primarily the unrest there) all point to closer. I'm not sure I would exclude "climate-changing technologies". Although they wouldn't seem to apply, the disruptions that would accompany any serious climate change (man-made or not) could have more potential for conflicts than anything in the Cold War. What would happen if the temp in India rose beyond habitable levels? Would 1 billion Indians just sit there and roast? Or would they move north? Like into Pakistan and China. And how would they react? And so on and so on. I'm not sure that START has that much effect. Although Russia's recent behaviors are pretty scary, (particularly their apparent willingness to target specific indivduals) I don't see a real nuke threat from them, directly or indirectly. Too many consequences. Too much cost. Yes, they are developing new missle technology, but that is more evolutionary, and has non-military applications. Even without START, I don't see either Russia or the US wasting the time, effort or money on another arms race. 13. I'm not going to "hail the sticky", but I am going to strongly consider the skills and experience of the folks that wrote it. 14. I'm not going to argue with your experience, but what is the ratio of your contact with the general public? How many "good" folks vs "bad" do you see out on the street? How often do you end up in the nice neighborhoods, talking to people who know how to raise their kids and train their dogs. Or are you more likely to be dealing with the less nice members of your community? And Pit Bulls are more likely to attack. They're Terriers. A class of dog that is bred to chase, attack and kill it's prey. Pit Bulls are the largest (and most dangerous) of the terriers. Most terriers are the little "ankle biters". Like my Yorkie. They are bred to keep vermin in check. They are bred to go after anything that moves fast. Have you ever seen a small terrier go after a chipmunk (or mouse or rat or rabbit or...) They are vicious little killers. My dog goes after anything that moves fast. If someone runs past him, he gives chase. It's an instinct. I've tried to train it out of him, but he will go after ankles if stimulated. My neighbor has one that is a sweet little Silky Terrirer. Looks exactly like mine, but a bit smaller. It catches and kills just about every small animal that comes into the yard. Mice, chipmunks, baby rabbits. Standard Terrier behavior. 16. There were amazing plays made by both teams. Mostly offense, but there were still some by the defense. The defense on both sides was very ineffective. But they still turned out to be pretty evenly matched. Considering that the Packers had a great defense during the regular season (and the Cards were good too), I don't understand what happened. The Cards are going to be in trouble against the Saints (and the Packers would have been to, had they won) with a defense that is like ragged out F1-11 "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 17. Fabulous game. Highest combined score, Rogers threw for 300+ in the 2nd half. Jennings made 2 catches that were well beyond belief. That missed field goal at the end of regulation probably caused a few heart attacks around here. [whine]The officials missed a few calls that could have made a difference[/whine] Oh, well. It's just a game. And I really can't say the Cards didn't deserve to win it. But it would have been really cool if the Packers had been able to come back and win "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 19. This isn't a "simple" step/flip through. That would end up with the same side lines /risers twisted. That happens most commonly when the bagged canopy is given a complete flip. It is also possible to get that by having a very violent deployment and swinging up and flipping through the risers. That situation cnn be landable (I've done it) This mal looks like the canopy was tangled when it was picked up. You could replicate it (or create it) by putting the bagged canopy through a line group (not just up through the middle of the left and right groups) I don't think I'd try to land that one. And yes, the kink in the reserve ripcord is called a "pigtail" and it's from the RSL. If all the strands in the cable are intact, the ripcord is OK to reuse. 20. Yes, I see them at the local range every once in a while. They don't have the power to cycle the action in an auto (rifle or pistol), but shorts don't either. Out of a rifle barrel they are amazingly quiet. We were playing with them a while back and they'd go maybe 1/2- 3/4 inch into a sandbag. Regular 22lr would go 1-1/2 inches. They might be good (or at least better than a pellet gun) for pest control. You could probably get away with them in the city, at least with a rifle. A hammer pounding nails is louder. 23. I wouldn't try this. Many modern cars need the battery hooked up to complete the circuit. Unhook the battery and the entire electrical system quits. As another thought - Squeak - Are the battery connections tight (and clean)? I had a loose battery cable (the clamp had cracked) that acted quite a bit like your description of the problem. 24. I have (and love) a ProTrack. Easy to set up and use (as long as you read the instructions). Turn it on and forget it. L&B customer service is amazing. I friend of mine put his through the washing machine (in his jumpsuit). It worked for another week and then quit. They replaced it. No canopy alarms, so you may want something else, but I recommend L&B unreservedly. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 25. As I read it, this comment (from post # 44) was put forth as a subjective belief. That’s totally fair. We all have our opinions and a right to them. I respect that. As I read it, this assertion (from post #150, to which I replied) was put forward as more objective (rather than subjective opinion). Bringing the two quotes together highlight something of a puzzle for me. Deterrence requires some minimum level of rationality. If the argument is that “guns deter violent crime,” but “(a)ssuming a criminal actor will act rationally while in the commission of a crime” is incorrect ... aren’t those two ideas contradicting or conflicting? Or is the argument that an ambiguous threat of a certain level of reciprocal violence induces rationality, even in people who would otherwise commit crimes … i.e., the idea that armed societies are nicer? That still requires potential criminals or people who would otherwise not behave ‘nicely’ to make rational choices to behave in one way. This is not the first time that I’ve observed the puzzle between the two arguments … even on here. This was just a concise example of the two within the same thread. Can anyone explain how the two ideas are reconciled? /Marg Wow. I go out of town for a few days and PeeWee Herman and his clones take over Nerdgirl - In this apparent paradox, the illusion is because of the level of rationality. The old advice "Give them what they want and they won't hurt you" is actually false. FBI stats have shown that resisting (in any manner, including running away) has a lower chance of injury than compliance. In this area the rationality of the criminal (keeping the implied agreement of "give me what I want or I'll hurt you") is highly suspect. They might hurt you because you move too slow, or move to fast, or have an "attitude", or don't have enough of value to satisfy them, or they think you have more, or just because they feel like it. Last fall a clerk in NYC (CT really) was shot and killed after giving the robber the money News story. The link includes another similar robbery/shooting where the clerk survived. While criminals may not be rational at keeping the "Give me your money or I'll hurt you" bargain, they usually have a pretty strong self-protection instinct. Like choosing easy victims, or recognizing a threat to their lives when a gun is pointed at them. It doesn't take much rationality to understand "Go away or I'll kill you", and they easily recognize the threat that is nearly identical to the one they themselves use. It is interesting to read (First hit from Google of "self defense shootings") how many criminals continue their attack in the face of an armed victim. Lack of rationality?
