Can't seem to find your point there. What do you mean? Like they jump more or they're fat or wtf do you mean? I think it's that there are fewer jumpers and fewer jumps there, so even the same number of accidents would mean a higher accident rate (accidents per jumper or per jump) "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Uh that is not till 21 DEC 2012 Well at the risk of getting this kicked to SC I'd say you're off by a few million or possibly even billion years. Might wanna run your numbers again. The Mayans said so They also made human sacrifices. Were they right about that? Well... I can think of a few folks that I'd like to see sacraficed "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Thank you very much for running this contest. Even though I have no photos to enter, It was a lot of fun to see all the entries. FWIW, my favorite is lewmonst's first entry in post #2. End of the decade Dec 31, 2009 or Dec 31, 2010?
wolfriverjoe replied to skittles_of_SDC's topic in The Bonfire
I'm glad to know I'm not the only "math geek" here. It was a lot worse back in 1999 when everyone thought the end of the century and millineum was on Dec 31, 1999 instead of Dec 31, 2000 One of the funnier (to me at least) aspects of it was the people who couldn't understand why the newspapers from 1899 didn't seem to take note of the end of the century. They did all the "What will the future hold" stuff at the end of 1900 (the real end of the century) They call it the "Odometer Effect". It's the lowest altitude that I will keep trying to fix a problem with my main (line twists, stuck toggle, that sort of thing). 2K in my case. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Yes, the more efficient the engine, the less CO produced. CO comes from incomplete combustion. Modern cars pollute far, far less than those from even 15 or 20 years ago. Car exhaust components The N2 is just the nitrogen already present in the air. CO2 and water comprise the majority of the rest. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Name that Rack!! (The NEW DZ.com Game) Part 2
wolfriverjoe replied to Thanatos340's topic in The Bonfire
That would be because there's nothing to see Somehow I highly doubt that. I've found that very few people are able to do an accurate self-assesment. Either their ego over-inflates their attributes, or self-doubt underinflates them. I would think that you are falling under the second scenario. The only way to know for sure is to play the game -
I flew commercial from ORD to SFO on 31 Dec 1999. Emptiest I have ever seen either airport. Not a lot of folks on the plane either. Made it to the Embarcadero around 10:30-11PM. Much of the reason that the Y2K bug was not as much of an issue wasn't because it was over-hyped -- altho' there certainly were cases of that, it was because the private and governmental entities globally responded, invested/spent a lot of money, and took action. /Marg I didn't mean that there weren't serious issues that had to be dealt with, just the overall "End Of The World As We Know It" hype. Even if the fixes hadn't been as thorough as they were, so many of the doomsday scenarios were just ridiculous. For example, there was nothing on your airliner that was "date dependent" enough to be anything but an annoyance. And your flight landed after the new year had started in most of the rest of the world. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I gotta ask - where are your spare keys?? I carry spares for my car, truck, bike and front door in my wallet. Cost me all of $5 at the hardware store, and I ground off much of the head of each key so they don't take up too much space. They have carriers that are a little thicker than credit cards to keep them in. It sounds like a great place to jump though. The folks in this sport usually are pretty cool

Yep. It was about this time on Jan 1, 2000 that I figured the "Y2K" hype was a complete bunch of crap. I hadn't really beleived it, and when Australia didn't melt down, I knew we were safe. Chess hasn't changed in (how many?) years. Human nature hasn't changed much in a very long time. The only real difference these days is the technology. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Yes, and it's winter here in Wisconsin. It's very cold and snowing. Although I have a swimming engagement on Friday, I'm mostly stuck inside. So I am PWing on here and a couple other boards. This was posted on a motorcycle board (in their version of the Bonfire) and since it was just about the most bizarre thing I have ever read, I thought it would fit nicely in here "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." pay them well and give them a month in a calender and you just might be able to change your sentence from "trying to get them to taking their clothes off" to "I get them to take their clothes off". Would you like to name said cause?? I have a strong suspicion that the regular pervs on here would open their hearts and wallets for a cause this good "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Because the ads say "We pay off your trade". They don't hear the part where it says the difference is added to the loan amount. Selective hearing. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

Tandem Doomsday Scenario
wolfriverjoe replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
You may notice that I ended that sentence with a question mark. That little tidbit came to me through hearsay. Auto manufacturers are required to provide parts support for 10 years after discontinuing a model. You can still get parts for an Eldorado from a Caddy dealer, for example. And that's if the manufacturer is still in operation. AFAIK that's the only such requirement. But I could be wrong. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Sorry dude, but concussions are no joke. It's taken congressional hearings for the NFL to start to take them seriously. The number of ex-NFL players with serious issues due to multiple concussions is staggering. And the college level sports are supposed to be about taking care of the kids. Yes, it's really just the true "minor league" for football and basketball, but it is more that that for a lot of kids. And I don't see how punishing a kid by forcing him into a dark closet with a guard and threats of being kicked off the team if he tries to leave is an approprriate reaction to a serious injury. That's (to me at least) the "old school" reaction to injury that takes no concern for the future (for a college age kid). I only know what's been reported on ESPN. I am withholding final judgement until all the facts are revealed. But if the allegations made by the parents are true, I hope the coach sees some real punishment. Perhaps even civil or criminal court level punishment. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

You impress a Zen Master by not trying to impress him (or her). If you can't do it by being yourself, with what skills and knowledge you posess, it isn't going to happen. Although, I've found genuine humility often trumps skills, knowledge and intelligence. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." This should make some gun enthusiasts crazy
wolfriverjoe replied to quade's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, the "hardcore" on both sides of the argument will always believe what they choose. But not everyone sees it as a black and white issue. And not everyone who reads these arguments posts. So, I think there are a (very) few who may take a (slightly) different view on the crap we argue here because of what is posted. And that goes for the religious and political views as well as the gun arguments. Besides, it's kinda fun to defend my opinions against those who have a different one. It makes me revisit my reasons for having that particular view and examine my own validity. YMMV
