Powerful speech by Biden on the assault on Democracy
wolfriverjoe replied to JoeWeber's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, since the attacker then hit Pelosi and seriously injured him when the door was opened, it wasn't a great choice. It may or may not have been the choice I would have made under the circumstances. I don't know, I wasn't there. But, as I noted, I can see why that choice was made. Giving the cops instant access vs waiting for them to force their way in. The cops will not kick in the door instantly. Not in that neighborhood. The door may well have been quite strong and resistant to forced entry. Normal cops don't walk up to a door with a battering ram. -
Powerful speech by Biden on the assault on Democracy

Or maybe Pelosi knew that it was the cops and he had to open the door. Taking one hand off the hammer just long enough to reach the doorknob and let 'the calvary' in makes perfect sense to me. -
The cops involved have all been fired and are facing charges. The 2 Sheriff's deputies who were on the scene have been suspended pending investigation. The bodycam footage is a huge part of that happening. Don't get me wrong, there's still a LOOOOONG way to go. But it's progress.

Fear. Scholz is afraid of Putin. On a happier note, Germany is sending Leopards and allowing others to do so. There are some pretty strict rules about reselling military equipment. The country of origin has control over where their stuff ends up. So without Germany's approval, Poland or anyone else couldn't send Leopards anywhere. Britain is also sending Challengers. And the US will be sending Abrams. All three will take some time before they actually get deployed, but it's a start.

I would say 'no'. I've watched teams train. They have a really good packer, so they don't use turn rigs. They do a jump, land & hand off their rigs. They go over the video of the jump, get a drink & a bite to eat, dirt dive the next jump, grab their rigs from the packer and make the next jump. They get on every third load*. The one they're on, the one that is taking off when they are first down, then they are on the next one. They're on the ground about 20 minutes between jumps. That can be 10 jumps a day. There was one guy who was on two teams. He'd use a turn rig. Land, hand off the rig, put on the turn rig. Get on the plane. Debrief the previous jump with that team and go over the dive plan on the way up. Land from that jump, wait a load* (each team was on every third load) and go again. He made something like 25 jumps in one day. More than once. He only did that one year. I'm not the worlds fastest packer, and I'm older than I used to be. But I could make every fourth load* on a pretty regular basis. The problem I had is that if I was packing for myself, after 5 or 6 jumps, I was beat. I would usually be on first load, but be done by 3ish. I'd sit down, relax & watch the shenanigans. For you, taking the money you'd spend on a turn rig and putting it towards coaching would be a much better investment. Taking the time between jumps to go over video, think about what went right & wrong and how to do better next jump are important. Hint: I usually did video review first. Then I had 15 minutes or so of packing, and could think about a few things while packing. * - This was at a DZ with an Otter. Loads were turning every 20-25 minutes, about 3 per hour.

It makes one wonder how typical this sort of thing is. People at that level of government have literally thousands of documents (tens of thousands?). A certain percentage are guaranteed to be classified at some level. From what I've read, the Biden situation (and even the Pence) are somewhat routine. People accidently keep stuff they shouldn't. When they find them, they call up NARA, make arrangements to get the stuff returned and life goes on. GWB was a former Director of the CIA. His clearance level was astronomical. Is it possible to believe there wasn't at least ONE document left behind? The Trump situation was different on a number of levels. The sheer amount, the level of classification, where he had them, the fact that he repeatedly refused to return them, the concept that he may well have been planning on selling them, all of that. But, of course, the Trumpettes insist that the situations are EXACTLY the same.

Or even ever saw the cover.

Right. Just like he's attacking Hunter Biden, while completely ignoring all the shit that the Trump spawn did while he was in office.

Funny that people who have considered themselves superior to others all of the sudden are "horribly persecuted" when they have to treat those 'lesser' than themselves as equals.
-
Funny how Covid gets blamed for the deficits and debts. Despite not existing for the FIRST THREE YEARS of the Trump idiocracy.

Post trump Legal Actions, Including his Enablers
wolfriverjoe replied to Phil1111's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, a bunch of the lawsuits about 'election fraud' that were tossed, ended up with the plaintiffs (Trumpettes) being ordered to pay legal costs to the defendants because the suits were totally stupid. Michigan was one. Wisconsin sued for $105k, but was denied. https://www.reuters.com/world/us/judge-sanctions-sidney-powell-other-pro-trump-lawyers-who-claimed-voter-fraud-2021-08-25/ -
Heather Cox Richardson pointed out two very interesting things: The thing that raised the debt the most in recent history was the "Trump Tax Cuts', that went mostly to the rich. The two ways to reduce the debt are to reduce spending or to increase income. Putting the tax rates back to where they were in 2016 would go a long way to reducing the debt. What do you think the chances are of that happening? (we really need a 'sarcasm' font)

Hi Jerry, So much QUITTING. Gotta love the quote from the story: The same judge that made Trump pay nearly a million dollars for a 'frivolous' lawsuit, is calling another suit by Trump 'frivolous'. To be honest, I'm a bit surprised he recognized the developing pattern. Or maybe he didn't, but his lawyers did. -
It's a little known codicil of the DZ.com charter: Double Secret Moderation.

Sort of. "Reserve Storage' means they were cleaned out and parked. They may or may not have had any preservation done. As an 'airplane guy', you likely know what has to be done to preserve an airplane engine for long term storage. This is similar to what the Russians are looking at when they are trying to pull the T-62s out of storage. I've seen generalized estimates that 1/3 will be usable with a bit of preparation. 1/3 will require major effort to get operational and 1/3 will not be 'revivable' and will be used for parts. Before they could send any over, they'd first have to evaluate them to see what they've got. Then get some up and running. Another problem is maintenance. The Abrams is a very maintenance intensive tank. It requires skilled techs (and quite a few of them) to keep it going. Beyond training the crews (an experienced tank crew could adapt to the Abrams fairly quickly), the rest of the folks who are involved in keeping it going would need substantial, specialized training. Then there's the logistical support. The main gun is different from what they are currently using. So they'd need to figure out how to keep those specific shells supplied. The ideal fuel is jet fuel. It can run on other stuff, but there are downsides to that. There's a lot more to it than just 'sending them a bunch of tanks. And even if it was just 'sending' them, that's not a trivial exercise either. 2 Abrams fit in a C-5. I'd guess they'd go to Poland, not risking flying into Ukraine. Then overland to Ukraine. Sending them by ship is usually preferable, but that takes a lot of time. Personally, I'd LOVE to see substantial, serious arms get sent to Ukraine. And I think it's going to happen. But it will take some time.

Well, it's one of those 'transference' things. The fools know perfectly well that THEY would commit election fraud, so they think that the only way the Ds could have won is by cheating (funny how almost all the people charged with that crime are Rs). They also know how much corruption and fraud the Trump spawn have been involved in, so they naturally assume that the 'other side' is also doing it.

Hmmmm... Trump tried to get nuke tech to the Saudis. And was thwarted. Trump was found with stolen, classified nuke documents. The Saudis gave Kushner's brand new "investment firm" TWO BILLION dollars to 'manage'. Hmmmm...

^This. Big time. At the bigger DZ I've been a part of (haven't been there in a couple years now ), the DZO is adamant about building a fun jumper population. He freely admits it's selfish. He, his wife and his two sons all jump, and he wants a good group of friends for him and his family to jump with. So EVERY student is invited to the 'festivities'. They are informed that they are a part of 'us', and welcome at the social events. They host a variety of those sorts of things too. Lots of bonfires on Saturday nights, Chili cookoff & film festival near the end of the season (good prizes for the winners provided by the DZ), even a 'prom' and winter skating party (pick up the packing mat and the hangar floor makes a great roller skating area) during the offseason to keep everyone in touch with each other. They seem to graduate a lot of A licenses. No clue what the FJC numbers to A license numbers are, but to be fair, it's a hell of a commitment, both time & money. It's not always apparent how dedicated one has to be during the FJC, so I'd be surprised if the retention rate was much over 25%.

Yup. Just like all the antivax shit he spews... While being fully vaxxed himself. On a similar note, Lynette Hardaway, "Diamond" of 'Diamond & Silk' died last week. She was reported hospitalized with Covid back around Thanksgiving. Kinda funny how all the 'upper level' grifters (Fox, most of the Republicans) are almost certainly fully vaxxed, while the 'minor leaguers' (State reps, Phil Valentine and a host of other Right wing local radio personalities) weren't... And are now dead.

Karl Rove went on Fox to explain why Trump's issues with classified material is worse than Biden's. Karl Rove. On Fox. Of course, Trump is having a tantrum over it.

Oh please. He understands it perfectly well. Probably better than average. You have to understand something quite well to lie effectively about it.

AFF FROM HIGH SPEED FIXED WING AIRCRAFT
wolfriverjoe replied to randhawa922's topic in Safety and Training
Former President Bush did a few jumps, some of which were AFF. The Army Golden Knights took him. From what I can find, they did it out of a Twin Otter.- 17 replies

A long time ago in a college level English Composition class, we had an exercise in this sort of critical thinking. This was just before the 'turn of the century' (98 or 99), so Google wasn't an option. We were given an article from a tabloid (Weekly World News?) and asked to pick it apart. It was full of glaring errors, and most of the class spotted most of them. I impressed the teacher somewhat when I pointed out that the article referenced Antarctica, and said something to the effect of 'the article says they have to leave in October, because of the coming winter. Southern hemisphere has spring in October.' Nobody else had noticed that one. My parents taught me to analyze and critically examine stuff like that. It's a handy skill that is VERY lacking. The number of people that fell for Trump and all his bullshit is a clear example of that. The number of people that fell for (and continue to believe) his "Fake News!!!!" garbage is both frightening and depressing.
