  1. They need to feel smart and powerful. Deep down, they know they aren't, so they overcompensate. Usually against targets that are unable to defend themselves. It explains a LOT about Trump's popularity.
  2. Kinda depends on how one defines 'success'. In and around Vuhledar, Russia waged a pretty fierce tank battle. They lost. Depending on who you believe, somewhere in the neighborhood of 130 tanks. Almost certainly over 100. Plus the various other vehicles, armored and not, that accompany that sort of thing. And a whole lot of troops too. Reports are saying that Russia sent the tanks into battle in column. Which virtually guaranteed their destruction. Reports are also saying that the Russian army is restructuring their armor troops into a 'new' configuration. Because they have to. Because they don't have the capability or the equipment to properly deploy them. Also in the 'success' file, the G20 held talks in Delhi. At that meeting, Foreign Minister Lavrov claimed that Ukraine attacked Russia. The audience laughed. https://www.theguardian.com/world/video/2023/mar/04/g20-russia-foreign-minister-sergei-lavrov-ukraine-video
  3. We really need a sarcasm font. Although I do actually believe what I said. Well, that's one of the 'fun' things about religion. 'God' has the power of whoever speaks for him. So the Pope has power over Catholics. If you look at some of the medieval practices, they used 'the power of God' to do some pretty awful things. And it's not just Christians. The Ayatollah Khomeni did some truly cruel & vicious things in the 'name of Allah'. In fact those in power in Iran are still doing many of those things. Now, I don't believe that 'God' actually exists, so the power isn't really 'his'. It's just (mis)used in his name by some pretty nasty people to do some pretty nasty things. This is not new. Nor is there any sign it's going to end anytime soon.
  4. 'Cuz it says what they want to hear. All the shit about who to hate, that if they say the 'magic words', they go to heaven forever, while the people they don't like burn for eternity. I think they like the latter part of that sentence more than the former. If it comes to tending goats, camping out, really good campfire stories, great. Morality, legal issues, tolerance and acceptance of those different from me? Not so much.
  5. Patriot Prayer is 'left'? Seriously?
  6. Oh, I thought it was because the 'thread derailer in chief' popped up and did his usual trolling.
  7. There are also reports that Fox gave Jared Kushner confidential information about Biden campaign ads. Go figure. https://www.businessinsider.com/murdoch-gave-kushner-confidential-information-about-biden-dominion-2023-2
  8. Oh. I see a bunch of text, I didn't realize it was a picture. Testimony Q&A about various hosts endorsing the lie of the stolen election.
  9. And that just because they were hosts on a show on Fox, that it wasn't Fox's position or opinion. Note: It was multiple hosts on multiple shows. And NONE of the other shows presented a view that the election was not fraudulent. So much for 'fair & balanced'. I was wondering the same thing.
  10. Do you think money issues have nothing to do with race?
  11. They don't? Since when? Or are you that out of touch with reality?
  12. Well, while that sort of stuff is true, and does really happen, it's pretty rare.
  13. Well, duh. Don't you realize that if we (the US that is, I know you aren't part of that) had allowed Trump to steal the election, dismiss the Constitution and allow him to become "president for life" (which some of his idiotic supporters actually want), then we'd become as corrupt and inept as... Russia. How's that working for them? We really need a 'sarcasm' font on here.
  14. Oh yeah. I'm not pretending it's the only factor. Or even the biggest one.
  15. There are also genetic factors involved. Some people are more susceptible to obesity (or addiction) due to their genetics. I'm fortunate that I come from a long line of 'less fat' people. Doesn't mean I haven't had to work pretty hard to not get fatter since turning 40. But I've got a headstart over some.
  16. Oh my. That's a hell of a site. Take a look at the 'most popular' articles on the right. And yes, I tend to look at the overall content on the site and judge it. It's a damned good telltale as to the veracity of it.
  17. I was taught that the top of the center cell gets the most wear because of packing. Once the canopy is cocooned, the packer is laying on top of just the center cell. So all the friction and all the sweat & stuff get on the top of the center cell.
  18. Nah. Not for being 'asleep'. For being an ignorant hateful racist. There's a difference. https://www.npr.org/2023/02/26/1159580425/newspapers-have-dropped-the-dilbert-comic-strip-after-a-racist-rant-by-its-creat
  19. He was Spiderman? Oh, wait. That was a Broadway show, not a movie.
  20. Don't forget that Trump refused to go to the ceremony for the 100th anniversary of the end of World War 1 because... It was raining.
  21. Well, if any of those three said that the sun was going to come up in the east tomorrow morning, I'd get up and double check. Carlson has turned into a blatant Russian propagandist. To the point that he's featured on Russian TV.
  22. Putin is buying Iranian drones. And is buying artillery shells from North Korea. Russia can't manufacture enough to keep up. As was noted in the post above, Wagner has basically been cut off of artillery shells. That's partly because Putin had decided that Prigozhin has become too much of a threat, but also because there simply aren't enough to go around. Ukraine has done a very good job of targeting supply depots. They leave the actual guns alone because taking out one tube just stops that gun from firing, but blowing up the ammunition supply means none of the guns can fire. And Russia can't produce anything that uses computer chips, because sanctions have greatly reduced the supply of those. So the missiles they've been launching at Ukraine have not been coming at the rate they were previously. OTOH, there are something like 54 countries actively supporting Ukraine. The US can't do it alone, but we don't have to. There isn't enough production to keep up with demand, but production is being ramped up. Whether or not it can get fast enough fast enough is a good question. Critics are saying that we are giving Ukraine so much that we're leaving ourselves short, which has some validity. I don't know if there will be enough for Ukraine to push Russia back out with their spring offensive. As I've said, it's going to be a very interesting spring & summer. I personally believe Ukraine is going to win. But nothing is for sure.
  23. Very true. And anything over a year ago, I'd fully agree that Belarus would be 'absorbed' into Russia. But they aren't now, and I think Putin's debacle in Ukraine has made it less likely.
  24. Ok, thanks. I was going to ask the same question. I did a quick search and didn't find much one way or the other (at least nothing less than 6 months old). I don't know how much weight I'd give one anecdote from one soldier in one location. I don't doubt that the casualties are having this sort of effect. I don't know how widespread it is. One of the claims coming from Ukraine (and it's cheerleaders) is that the casualties are running way higher for the Russians. There's all sorts of speculation about what kind of 'spring offensive' Ukraine is planning and how it will go.
