First off, that story is over a week old. Second, it's somewhat vague. Her uncle is quoted as saying she felt fine. The contradiction comes from an anonymous "federal official." Last, as I said in the previous post, Ebola is sudden onset. You go from feeling fine (and not contagious) to being really sick (and contagious) in a short period of time. If she felt "fatigue, muscle aches and malaise" earlier, then she wasn't experiencing symptoms of Ebola. So she wasn't contagious. That's twice you've suggested that the people who were infected "didn't feel well." First was Amber Vinson getting on the plane. Got any evidence of that? Everything I've come across says that Ebola is "Sudden Onset" where you feel just fine... Until you don't. And then you start pooping your guts out, barfing your brains out and running a serious fever. I have seen zero reports that Spencer, Vinson or Phang went out into public when they felt ill. Certainly not when they were symptomatic. And if they weren't showing symptoms, they weren't contagious. So the bowling alley patrons are safe. Has anyone in the US caught Ebola from casual contact? How about the family of Thomas Duncan, who treated him for two days while he was exhibiting serious symptoms, and was presumably contagious? The families of Vinson and Phang? Anyone? sd.keepcalm-o-matic.co.uk/i/run-around-screaming-we-re-all-going-to-die.png That's beautiful professor. Sounds a lot like what the idiots are doing. How about the perspective of someone who survived it? http://www.vox.com/2014/10/23/7055969/new-york-ebola-survivor-perfect-reaction And both the nurses from Texas are now better. Phang has been released from the hospital (met the President), Vinson is still in the hospital. I heard on NPR tonight that Vinson has hired a lawyer. Perhaps because she was vilified by the spokesman from the CDC, who criticized her for travelling, and later had to retract that and apologize after it was revealed that she had consulted the CDC before the travel and was told it was ok. I don't know if she expects to have to deal with the aftermath of the panic (airplane disinfection, school closings ect) or plans on a "defamation" lawsuit. Riots over a shoting turn into free jordans and 40's
wolfriverjoe replied to Anvilbrother's topic in Speakers Corner
Well, one of the problems with the situation is that it goes far deeper than "was this particular shooting justified or not?" The relations between the cops and the citizens in Ferguson are pretty bad. They were bad before this happened. This shooting was just a "spark." The handling of the case has been... Shit. They started off by leaving the body of the dead guy laying in the street while they did their investigation. For 6 hours (IIRC). In St Louis in August. They could have taken pictures and measurements and gotten him on ice in an hour or less. If it had been a dead cop, they probably would have. Then they couldn't keep their story straight about what happened. Including a flat out lie about the orbital bone fracture. Their handling of the protests that often started out peaceful, the arrests of the reporters in McD's, the overall attitude of the cops towards the citizens was... Shit. The photo of the cop in the armored car pointing his weapon directly at the crowd was particularly disturbing. Basic gun safety says not to point the gun at anything you aren't willing to shoot. Often, simply pointing a gun at someone can result in "Assault With a Deadly Weapon" charge. So why was this cop pointing a gun directly at the crowd? I don't know if the shooting was justified or not. I can see it being legitimately decided either way. But in either case, there are a lot more, a lot deeper problems. That probably won't be addressed... Until it happens again (note that I say "until" not "unless"). "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." What is so evil about requiring id to vote?
wolfriverjoe replied to Anvilbrother's topic in Speakers Corner
If they registered, it seems like a reasonable expectation. But if they just checked a box on a DMV form that added voter registration, perhaps not. The check the state did should probably be done at the time of registration rather than on an adhoc basis. Computers are very capable of this. Or they were visited by an aggressive "Get out the vote" campaign. Door knockers who register people. They are as bad as any door-to-door salesman. I've heard stories about people who weren't eligible to vote and tried to explain this, but the door knockers wouldn't take no for an answer. So the form got filled out, but the person never voted. So much for "sportsmanship, fair play, and all that other crap" that collegiate sports are supposed to be about. I know you wanted the "Speaker's Corner" stuff left out, but I can't help notice that some of these rivalries get pretty ugly. And it seems like the schools encourage it. Good lessons that they are teaching. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo

One more reason why I hate college athletics
wolfriverjoe replied to kallend's topic in Speakers Corner
I think he understands it perfectly well. It's a huge moneymaker for the schools. And while the "student athletes" are provided with room and board, and a token effort at an education, they are paid zero for their efforts on the field. They also have no rights whatsoever as far as their "employment" goes, and can have their scholarships yanked at any time for any (or no) reason. For many, it's a half a step above indentured servitude. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo -
Save as much money as you possibly can. You're going to need it. The closest tunnel to you is in Chicago. Nice if you can get there over the winter, but not absolutely vital. Yes it gets easier. You just have to get through it. Relaxation drills, breathing techniques, visualization, all that sort of stuff can help. But in the end you still have to face the "Door Monster" and fling yourself from the plane. Well, to be fair to God, if he didn't create all those bad things, there wouldn't be any "miraculous deliverances" from them, now would there? How could we have people "Saved By God's Grace", those who survive impossible situations (being buried by an earthquake for a week, being blown out to sea by a storm and surviving for several days, you know what I mean) if God didn't create those situations in the first place. Nevermind the hundreds or thousands that die in order for these "miracles" to seem so great. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." 'Horrific day' amid war memorial shooting near Canada's Parliament
wolfriverjoe replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
. Google is your friend. Searching "CBC CTV Global CityNews Conspiracy" got me THIS as a first result. It seems to be more of a "Lets stop them from using our footage to paint the guy we support in a negative way" than an actual conspiracy to only report what they wanted heard. Stupid, improper, possibly not legal. But not anywhere near an "Illuminati, Rothchilds, et al" style network. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Advice on core strengtening exercises?

Well, that's a normal "wuffo" attitude. Just tell them that more jumpers get hurt or killed doing stupid stuff on bad weather days or around the bonfire after jumping is done than are actually hurt jumping. I don't know if that's actually true, but it sounds good. The most dangerous piece of equipment on the DZ is the... Golf cart. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." To clarify a bit of what Rob said: Go to the rig manufacturer's website and find the page where you measure yourself for a new rig. Have those measurements taken by someone else. You CANNOT do it accurately yourself. A rigger is good, a good tailor will be better. But, really, anyone who can follow directions and read a tape measure can do it. Take the measurements and the serial number from the rig and send them into the manufacturer. They will tell you what can and cannot be fixed and how much it will cost. I went into the "Scam Forum" and the forum list doesn't show any threads except the sticky. I tried to look at "Page 2" and got the same result. This is the only forum that is happening with for me. You seem to want to align the pin with the bridle routing towards the bottom of the container. Is this because that's where the pilot chute is stowed? Keep in mind that won't be the direction that the bridle pulls from when you toss the pilot chute. Think about what direction the pilot chute and bridle will be pulling from to extract the pin. I would suggest putting the pin in a way that the pilot chute has the easiest extraction of the pin. I mostly doubt that the pilot chute will have any real difficulty extracting the pin no matter what orientation the pin is in. Do you know how much force a normal, properly cocked P/C has? It's a lot. What you are mostly doing is reducing wear and tear, I think. But I could be wrong and I welcome correction. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." You are absolutely right that this is a serious event. If it isn't stopped in Liberia & Sierra Leone, then there is a very real chance it will become endemic in West Africa. That is, it will always be there to some degree. Not popping up here and there, but always present. And that would mean that there would always be a threat of it showing up in Europe, Asia (that could get messy), South America (the slums of Rio or Brasilia would be interesting) or here in the US. But that ISN"T NEW!!!! That's been a threat since this outbreak spiraled out of control. It's just that very few people here in the US cared much until it showed up here. Hmmm. "Not to enter the panic stage." You mean like planning to blockade your town to keep the "infected" out? And including theft and vandalism in those plans? Is that panicking? Sure you did. You know, I know, everybody knows what you did and why you did it. You deliberately quoted the part about prayer and salvation, and left out the factual, scientific part. You did it to bait those who know your posting style into assuming that it was simply one of the usual "God will save the righteous from the horrible disease and the evil one who is perpetrating it on us in order to destroy the country" kind of articles you usually post. Why are schools closed? Because someone was sort of near someone who was on the same plane that someone else had flown on the day before? And that last someone, who hadn't shown any symptoms on the plane was later diagnosed with Ebola? Please. You want the "appearance of being in control." I'd like to see some scientific understanding and common sense. Not blind panic and unreasonable fear. But that's probably too much to ask from the public. Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) was right. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkCwFkOZoOY We saw the same stupidity at the beginning of AIDS in the US. We've reached the 21 day point from when Thomas was isolated at the hospital. Anyone exposed before then should have shown symptoms by now. I have yet to hear of any new cases from the people who had casual contact with him. I'd be willing to bet that we've seen the end of this particular outbreak. I don't think we are going to see any cases from casual contact with either of the nurses (Phang and Vinson) who contracted it from Thomas. It's just not that easy to transmit. I read it. Most of it is pretty factual and accurate, as far as I can tell. But you didn't quote any of those parts, Ron And it's a lot more scientific than your usual posts. I would have expected something a lot more like Grimmie's link (post #25). That one is funny as all hell. It's been posted in the other thread. It also claims that all the illegal immigrants that the government is letting in are "carriers", infected with Ebola, but treated with a "secret cure." It claims that "in about 30 days, the first cases of Ebola will start infecting Americans." Of course, the article was posted Aug 4th, over 60 days ago. Absolutely hilarious to anyone who understands the concept of "critical thinking." "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." I'm not an "old dinosaur" (yet), but I don't mind answering questions like this. They don't know. And if they have sketchy instructors, they won't know. So they come on here and ask. People like Chuck give them solid, reasonable, usable advice. Usually presented in a "no-nonsense" manner. Some people listen, others don't. Just because some won't listen doesn't mean all of them don't. And there's a lot of new guys who are reading, but not posting. They have these same questions, but wait for someone else to ask. I disagree with this. We (as in the CDC and WHO) have been studying Ebola for almost 40 years. We know a lot about it. It's true that "something" happened in Texas, and reports are starting to come out that they didn't use approved BBP equipment, didn't follow proper removal procedures, and initially refused CDC help. I got it off of Nerdgirl's FB, a quick search didn't give any results. All of the people who had casual contact with Duncan are quickly approaching the end of the incubation period. So far, no infections. Nigeria, which isn't a really well run place, is approaching the "Clear of Ebola" designation (2x incubation period with no new cases). Past outbreaks have been contained, this one has gotten so far out of hand because both Liberia and Sierra Leonne have been so badly damaged by civil wars. Their infrastructure has been totally devastated. And even Fox News has said "Don't Panic". Of course, Rush Limbaugh says "Panic!!!! The Democrats are going to KILL YOU with their incompetence!!"
